Love this post and pictures. Amazing sheep and that Jacob! Those horns!
Wishing you a wonderful wonderful trip. I am so glad you were able to go.
Scottish Smallholder and Grower Festival
Short and rough report again. Working while in transit and with limited internet access. At the moment, I'm on the ferry Hamnavoe from Scrabster (Scottish mainland) to Stromness (Orkney). Saturday: The Scottish Smallholder and Grower Festival at Lanark Agricultural Centre. Thanks to Jeni for tel...
I love what you wrote about your friend: that every visit *mattered*. I feel that way whenever I visit with my friend Reeny. We don't get together often but when we do, it's always special and it always matters. I'm going to share that thought with her the next time I see her. She'll appreciate it. I hope you are feeling stronger/better as time passes.
Tough times
It's been quiet around here because life has been intervening. Yes, we are in the area affected by the Colorado flooding, but our personal household is dry and has utilities, and even when the roads have been closed in all directions away from where we are, we have had access to groceries and ot...
Wonderful view - tea looks very much in order. I hope you use this time to recharge your physical and emotional batteries.
Fanciful imaginary knitting - wonderful!I have several Williams and Wallaces up through my Fullerton line but never the both in one name. :)
Arriving in Scotland
Friends have asked for quick notes on the trip as it occurs, and have said it's okay if those notes are short and unformed. They will be! I flew British Airways from Denver to London/Heathrow to Edinburgh. I left Monday and arrived Tuesday and I think (but am not entirely sure) that it is now We...
Oh Deb, so sorry to read this. You really have had a very trying year. Our loved ones always seem gone too soon....I am glad you have the Shetland project to pull you forward.
I disagree with your statement above re the rest being more "put together" than you. I was going to comment that you look terrific in that photo - and quite put together!
Much empathy and hugs from CT.

Dear Deb,
Your obituary for your mom is so very loving and moving. I am very sorry for your loss. All I can suggest is to be kind to yourself in the upcoming months. And to trust that time will heal your heart.
Wishing you well,
Dina
PLY magazine has arrived!
There's way too much going on around here, and I have posts-in-mind about Kentucky, and Estes Park, and some of my research into Shetland sheep, but meanwhile I've been, instead, writing things like my mother's obituary. As much as I love the other parts of my life, family comes first. (What's b...
This is a beautiful tribute to your mom. I generally do not get weepy but this got me.
Wishing for healing peace for you and your family.
All shall be well again, I know (Julian of Norwich)

Such a beautiful tribute to you beloved Tussah. I am really sorry to hear of your loss but I just know this will open your heart and home to another special dog in need. (When you are ready for that.) Those that find their way to you are truly blessed by your loving care and devotion.
Tussah: 19?? - April 23, 2013
We were Tussah's third home that we know of. She lived with us for eight or nine years. She was somewhere between six and eight years old when she came to us. She had initially been abandoned at a reservoir in North Dakota. From there, someone picked her up and took her to the humane society ...
I got chills reading this post, Deb. I am so thrilled for you that you have the support and interest of such a great list of designers who are willing to help support you in your research.
I suspect, as word gets out, that more designers may well step up. This ebook could have several volumes. I know I'll be signing up for it asap.
Congratulations!
Dreaming of Shetland
Updated in July 2013 to add a link here as the Dreaming of Shetland website goes live. ___ Ah, time. There just isn't enough of it. If there were, I'd complete a lot more blog posts. I have ten started in MarsEdit, the program I use for composing, and another few dozen that I've meant to start ...
Fun! I agree, the prices for these intricate treasures are crazy low but I'm glad it's enough to afford these amazing artisans improvements in their lives.
I keep thinking of that time you and I looked at that booth at MDSW - was it CTTC? Cloth Roads? My memory seems to think it was all Peruvian knits? Beautiful intricate stuff.
A Peruvian weaving technique: ñawi awapa
Following my day of learning a few Peruvian knitting techniques, I was fortunate to have a long half-day workshop with Nilda Callañaupa Alvarez on a single weaving technique from her home village of Chinchero. Ñawi awapa means "eye border," and it is a cord used to finish the edges of textiles, ...
You know how much I love the West coast but yes, an East Coast event would be easier for me to manage. I look forward to hearing the details whenever you post them.
One Explore 4 opening (March 11-14 event)
There is one opening for the Explore 4 retreat in Friday Harbor, Washington in about ten days. Arrive Sunday, March 10, retreat March 11-14, depart Friday, March 15. I haven't advertised this at all because I don't want to disappoint people; there was a small waiting list and we've found space f...
Fantastic post! I sense a new book...
A workshop on Peruvian knitting, mostly of puntas!
Last weekend I took two textile workshops. This is remarkable. Mine is one of those lives where if I have time for a workshop, I don't have the money to do it; and if I have the money, I don't have the time or I'm in the wrong part of the world. I've been at more festivals and events than I can ...
Truly wish I could go. I would enjoy learning from you for several days. Have fun!

Hi Deb,
Thanks for the link to that chocolate place. I need to check them out. Yes, need!
Wishing I could buy a skein of that yarn you raved about,

Wool and chocolate: treasures to start a new year
Now here's a splendid way to start a new year. On the right, treats from Theo Chocolate in Seattle. My daughter and I like to walk to the factory store and pick out a few delights to enjoy after we get home: one per day, split and shared. (The other members of our household don't appreciate c...
I know it's probably silly but I can't dismiss the idea that Prince Charles would be very interested in all of this. Given his involvement in the campaignforwool.org of which he is the patron.
Worth reaching out to his office, perhaps?
UK visa saga, continuing
I spent a lot of last week working on how to get a visa to teach short, small-group, low-key workshops in the United Kingdom. A friend wrote, "It seems it shouldn't be that difficult!" That made me laugh, because it's turning out to be one of the most bureaucratically difficult tasks I've ever e...
