While nobody will mistake them for a contender, the Phillies hardly looked like the team that won the first two games of this series against Washington in last night's 11-0 debacle, surrendering more runs in a four-inning stretch than they had all series so far. Teddy Purcell scores the first of four second period goalsfor the Lightning in their 6-3 win over the Flyers The Flyers' 10 game win-streak was snapped Saturday as the Tampa Bay Lightning took advantage of a number of Philadelphia miscues and a rare off-performance by goalie Steve Mason to win 6-3. This morning, multiple sources reported that Peter Laviolette, the Flyers' coach for the last four seasons, was fired Monday morning after the team matched last year's franchise-worst 0-3-0 start. According to ESPN, it is the fastest firing in NHL history, matched only by Chicago's canning of Dennis Savard in 2008 after a 1-2-1 start. The team has looked sluggish in each of its losses this year in being outscored 9-3 by their opponents. Laviolette's firing has not seemed to affect his reputation, as the Pierre LeBrun tweet that follows was an opinion echoed by his collegues across Twitter. The coach... Continue reading
