This summer, my internship was with Planned Parenthood Health Systems in Greensboro, North Carolina. During my internship, myself and another intern assisted the community health educator in running a comprehensive sex education and peer education course called Teens Taking Action. In Teens Taking Action, teens ages 12-18 attend a three week training session in the summer covering topics from puberty and body development to safer sex methods and pregnancy/STI prevention. I would like, if I may, to present a hypothetical situation to you. Say your house is broken into one night. Your belongings are stolen, your home violated and your safety compromised. This year's election saw no shortage of hot button domestic issues; covering everything from drone strikes in the Middle East to women's reproductive rights in the United States. During a time when many people have ended up dividing themselves behind partisan politics, the Women's, Gender and Sexuality Studies Department at Guilford chose to address these and other topics in a community panel discussion.
