Part of my current job includes finding appropriate stock photos. During the search, I've come across quite a few gems. I'm sure there's a whole series of these. WTF I think this belongs on a different kind of site. He is so disappointed in you. I am so excited to... Continue reading

My next embroidery project did not go as well as my handkerchiefs. One of the gifts did not even make it to my friend as I still think I can do better. I'm not even going to show it here, because I don't want to ruin it for her. First... Continue reading

B and I bought this hutch from Craigslist awhile ago. It was cheap and kind of ugly, but we needed more storage space for kitchen items. We decided it would look much better painted. After going back and forth for awhile on which part should be grey and which part... Continue reading

Thanks for commenting, Diana. I actually totally understand about not being ready for jokes. Grief is so personal, and obviously each person should grieve however they need to. I personally do feel that writing about my grief has helped, and so if you're considering it, I would suggest writing a draft of what you want to say and then sitting with it for awhile before deciding if it's something you're comfortable actually publishing. As a reader, I know I would be interested in reading what you have to say. Best wishes!

I've been gettin' all crafty up in here [insert mischevous eyebrow wiggle here]. For Christmas, I made two of my closest bestest friends some handkerchiefs. I designed the animals using my mom's Bernina Embroidery Software. I then transferred the design directly to her embroidery machine. It took a couple of... Continue reading

For Christmas, we got this excellent book from my mother-in-law. It's filled with delicious juice recipes...and each juice can be turned into a cocktail! I was worried when we registered for a juicer that we would end up using it once a year, but B and I have used it... Continue reading

I've always found governesses interesting. Through much of England's history, for women with few prospects of marrying, the role was one of the only ways to make a living and remain respectable. In the American South, enslaved women and later freed women often assumed the role. Governess with Two Little... Continue reading

On one of the blogs I follow, the author gave birth to a stillborn baby around the time my mother died. She has been very open with her grief and her questioning of what it means to be a childless mother. It’s been refreshing to read about someone else’s grief,... Continue reading

I envy men their easy getting-ready-for-work routine. It seems all they have to do is build a wardrobe of great ties and patterned shirts and solid slacks. Every day would be a simple mix and match of quality pieces. Bored with my own current work wardrobe, I've been looking for... Continue reading

Oh, I have so many posts in the works! But, for now, some things that have caught my attention lately: Did you know that starfish have eyes in the tips of each arm? B and I, as per the American Dream, have hopes of owning a house one day. Not... Continue reading

A Gin Rickey usually has gin, lime, club soda and a lime wedge. My Cran Gin Rickey has gin, lime, sparkling water (because we have a soda stream and can thus make sparkling water for cheaps), some left-over-from-lunch cranberry juice from the vending machine at my work, and a lime... 1. Mimi Bag, Grey, $199 | Now that I have a fancy camera (thanks, Mom), it'd be nice to have a fancy camera bag that apparently would hold not only my fancy camera but my movie popcorn. It's like this bag knows me. And it's in my current favorite color--grey.... Continue reading

I made this cocktail with ingredients we had on hand--that's right, I just happen to have ginger syrup on hand (we had guests recently). A whiskey ginger would usually be made with ginger ale or ginger beer, but I say the name is still accurate. You could definitely cut down... Continue reading

B hadn't been to Baltimore yet, the rain had finally decided to give way, and we had a day off together--meaning my bad attitude (baditude) about doing "things" had to go the way of the rain as well. Continue reading

From an email I wrote Farrell dated 1/16/2011, and still true today: "Kelly is an amazing person and you are equally special in mine eyes and from my perspective I'm seeing two people who like each other (confirmed on both sides via moi, who is very nosy about these things)." Continue reading

We used to both really like the song Rain by Madonna. My mom told me, and now I can't verify it, that Madonna wrote it for her mother, who passed away when she was five. Apparently she might have actually written it for Karen Carpenter, another of my mom's favorite... Continue reading
