Autodesk University 2015 innovations main stage witnessed some incredible stories about innovation from across the globe. One of the obvious highlights is JE DUNN Construction's innovative cloud-hosted visualization and pricing interface that is helping them shave significant time and cost from the projects. And revealing its potential to unsettle the siloed, incremental way in which buildings are designed and built. John Jacobs, Chief Information Officer, presented how JE Dunn has transformed the preconstruction process leveraging their LENS pricing software, Dunn Dashboard and Autodesk BIM 360 for a seamless, transparent and connected ecosystem. Hi Henry, thanks for your comments. Field API documentation (https://bim360field.autodesk.com/apidoc/index.html) would give a good overview of the capabilities or extent of what can be done with APIs. When you say customized form are you referring to a Field Checklist? Then yes, you can create a checklist through API and also link additional data to it. Refer to api/checklist call.

This years Autodesk North American Construction Customer council meetings were held last week on June 23-24. DAQRI hosted the council meeting at their facilities in Los Angeles, CA. This years meetings focused on the latest developments with initiatives and trends such as production planning, collaboration, building operations, the internet of things, wearable technology in the field and more. I was thrilled at the chance to experience the Smart Helmet being developed by DAQRI. Setting a new standard for industrial, professional-grade wearables, DAQRI Smart Helmet realizes the true potential of augmented reality and 4D in the enterprise space. Continue reading

The second Autodesk Cloud Accelerator program was held from June 1 - June 12 in Autodesk San Francisco Office. Around 10 partners from around the world spend two weeks developing their applications on Autodesk Cloud Platform. I had the opportunity to attend the kick off and spend time with some of them discussing the BIM 360 APIs and the potential for integrations using the same.Developers from these partner companies got a chance to work intensively on their chosen project with the help, support and training of the Autodesk Cloud Engineering teams. The projects involved the use of any Autodesk cloud technology API – View and Data, Autodesk BIM 360, AutoCAD I/O, Autodesk InfraWorks 360 or Autodesk ReCap. It is such a great opportunity to accelerate your development with face-to-face advice and support from Autodesk cloud technology experts. Continue reading

BIM 360 Glue and REST APIs are becoming very popular among our partners and customers who wants to interact with the project data in BIM 360 cloud. The Glue Viewer allows users to pass some of the parameters to an embeddable viewer to visualize live BIM data through 3rd party applications and browsers. A lesser known fact is BIM 360 Glue's Javascript APIs, that allows users to interact with the Model View for rich bi-directional workflows. Continue reading

How to extend BIM’s values from design and construction phase to facility operation and maintenance (O&M) phase? This is a question that many facility owners with pioneering spirits have been asking. All the valuable information captured in the design and construction process does not have to die after the handover – it can connect with existing Facilities Management (FM) applications and serve as digitized data repository to be used for O&M purposes. Continue reading

Design is both art and science – this is especially true at this time when Building Information Modelling (BIM) is changing the AEC industry’s paradigm of how buildings are planned, analyzed, created and managed. Computational methods give designers the ability to automate many of the design tasks, generate parametric geometries and parse the design model to perform various engineering analysis. Well, as promising as it sounds, I understand it can be very challenging and probably scary for designers to write all the codes/scripts to develop the computational methods. In this blog, let’s take a look at how to develop “easy” and “graphical” scripting for computational design using Dynamo. Continue reading

In my last blog post I talked about Driving an RFI workflow through BIM 360 Field. This generated some discussion around data extraction and one of the readers asked about how to make it more efficient when there are large number of data points. This gave the idea of starting a series of posts focusing on Field Data Extraction. So in this blog post, I decided to write about the Filters in BIM 360 Field - A very powerful and simple feature to help manage your data, sort, filter and extract. Continue reading
