WOW! Feel like it was yesterday when I was reading about you and Charlie going swimming at the pools in NJ and you were talking about how Charlie was becoming taller than you. Excited to hear about Charlie's next steps into adulthood.
Back On the Road
Remember how I went to every private autism school in New Jersey and a few more to spare and we moved in with Jim's parents and then Charlie could not handle being in the special education program in the local middle school and then he went to the Developmental Learning Center and then we left...
Looking forward to another year of your posts Christina. They are always a pleasure to read. Happy almost birthday to Charlie.
Fiver
First, Charlie finished out the last days of his teenage-year decade and opened up the one he'll spend his twenties in with a solid 18 days of riding bikes on the Bay and in the Delta and in very fine and poised form. Second, there were horseback riding lessons too on his fourth horse, Club,...
Thanks for all of the fun snaps and sharing the ongoing success of Charlie's advancing age. I couldn't help but notice the dog right by Charlie in one of the pictures. I have memories of previous posts about Charlie being afraid of dogs. Pretty great to see one right at his feet! Happiest of birthdays to Charlie .
19
I used to think that every birthday for Charlie would be increasingly difficult for me to wrap my thoughts around. Starting a long time ago, when he was still in the single digits, we could see the divide between Charlie's biological age and his learning and cognition widening, like a fiss...
Love this series and appreciate that you are the family member who strives for individualism - with both color and size as the unique variables!
Match!
For the record, I have a black rain jacket and I do not, like the rest of our family unit, wear size large.
A life full of bike rides and horseback riding sounds great. It is fabulous to see Charlie adding to his repertoire of preferred activities as he moves into adulthood.
Still Riding and (Literally) Higher Off the Ground
There have been times when, on looking over the photos I have been posting during my time on the Internets, I have realized it looks pretty much as if all we and Charlie do is one bike ride after the next. So now, someone can say, she just keeps going on and on about Charlie riding that horse,...
Sign me up for a copy right now! As a long time blog follower Kristina I anxiously await a longer narrative.
A New Chapter
I may regret saying this as there's been many a false start, draft of a proposal, drafts and drafts and drafts, meditations on titles and the order of things: I'm at work on a book. My book, that book, the book, the Charlie one I hoped would be the natural result of blogging when I started over...
WOW! Big move for sure. Just catching up on your posts now. I look forward to hearing your perspective on the California system of care.
We're Moving to California on Christmas Day
"Go West, young man": The phrase made popular by Horace Greeley has been in my head since Jim and I decided it was time for us to leave New Jersey and move to California, where my family is. As I write in a piece in the Guardian, Charlie has had a great education here in New Jersey but adulthood...
