I'll probably watch the Dracula DVD on Halloween this year with Glass' score.
Candyman Suite for Violin and Piano
at iTunes and Apple Music
I purchased the Candyman Suite for Violin and Piano on iTunes a few days ago.
It's really good and reminds me of Dracula with the Kronos Quartet.
I'm glad I got the original soundtrack on Orange Mountain Music before listening to this version arranged for violin and piano!

I bought this three-disc set in June and listened to it.
Great recording of Glass' early ensemble works.
I agree with the Guardian on their review!

Looks good! The Dracula soundtrack has never been released on vinyl before.
I've listened to the CD many time, and it's a really good soundtrack!
Glass's DRACULA on vinyl this Halloween!
Coming this Halloween, for the first time Glass's complete score to the 1931 Dracula (composed in 1998) will be available on a double vinyl 180 gram LP from Orange Mountain Music. Pre-Order Now
Last night, I watched the British Paraorchestra perform Glass' Heroes Symphony! It sounded great.
Thoughts on Heroes Symphony (in advance of a tribute performance at Glastonbury on June 25th)
There is much buzz around the performance of Philip Glass's Heroes Symphony (from the music of Bowie & Eno) at Glastonbury, the world largest music festival, on June 25th in a midnight performance on the Park Stage as a tribute to the late/great David Bowie. The performance will be perfor...
I noticed on the Orange Mountain Music recording of Symphony No. 4 "Heroes" that Movement 1 was longer than the original Decca recording.
I have No. 4 on the Naxos label too.
Both recordings are excellent!

I have many Glass recordings that were recorded and mixed in the Looking Glass Studio.
I even saw it in two Philip Glass documentaries as well.
It was an excellent studio, I agree!
Remembering The Looking Glass Studios, New York
Glass Notes publishes on Mondays. Philip Glass's former recording studio was called Looking Glass Studios and was located on the ninth floor just a half a block north of Houston Street on Broadway. To most visitors it was the Looking Glass Studios but it also was home to Glass's publishing comp...
I've pre-ordered a copy of Glass' Symphony Box and I am also looking forward to it!
I went to hear the Basel Symphony Orchestra at Cadogan Hall in London two years ago and really enjoyed that concert!

I really enjoyed the new production of Akhnaten and hope that they stage Satyagraha again too.
I've seen all three operas in the UK now.
For me, it was Satyagraha first, Einstein On The Beach second and Akhnaten last.
Even More from Akhnaten in London...
For those who live in Los Angeles, buy your tickets now! The last Glass opera I recall getting this much good press was the ENO's production of Satyagraha. The Economist: "So the ENO's latest production, of Philip Glass's "Akhnaten", is a welcome relief from all the bad headlines." Express:...
I went to a performance of Akhnaten at the London Coliseum last night. Excellent production, set and costumes! I've listened to the original Sony recording many times.
In 2010 I went to a performance of Satyagraha and 2013, UK premiere opening night of The Perfect American.
I hope a new recording of Akhnaten on CD will be released one day.

I like Mahler's music a lot, but the copy I ordered probably came from a bad batch.
I'm glad recordings are also available on iTunes!
Glass Notes. Thoughts on Philip Glass's Violin Concerto No.1 (1987)
Glass Notes publishes an update every week on Mondays. To those who have followed Philip Glass for a long time you will sympathize with me when I hesitate every time I mention Glass's 1978 Violin Concerto as Violin Concerto No.1. The piece is such an important piece to me and it existed pla...
Hi Richard,
The McDuffie recording arrived a few days ago and I put it on as soon as I got it, but instead it was playing other classical music that I didn't really recognize until viewing the track list on iTunes
To my surprise, the disc actually had Mahler's Fifth Symphony, not John Adams' and Philip Glass' Violin Concertos.
The disc print said "Violin Concertos of John Adams and Philip Glass" though.
I opted for the McDuffie recording on iTunes and his playing on Glass' Violin Concerto No. 1 is excellent!
Thanks for the suggestion!

It looks great! I'm adding it to my wish list.
Philip Glass - The Symphonies Boxed Set April 22
Coinciding with the London Premiere of Philip Glass's Symphony No.9 on April 22, OMM is releasing a new limited edition boxed set of the complete (to date) Symphonies by Philip Glass.
I've just ordered the McDuffie recording of Violin Concerto No. 1 and will give it a listen.
Thanks!

I hope it does.
That recording of the Violin Concerto No. 2: American Four Seasons on OMM sounded beautiful.
I have two recordings of Violin Concerto No. 1.
Kremer's and Adele Anthony's playing is really good.

The Violin Concerto No. 1 is also one of my favourite pieces of Glass!
Will the new recording be released on Orange Mountain Music?

When I listened to Sibelius Fifth Symphony for the first time, I heard the similarities between that and Floe from Glassworks.
Musical Re-Use
Glass Notes publishes an update every week on Mondays. Since I started following Philip Glass, about 17 years ago, I have noticed that an ancillary benefit for me in listening to his music has been how my own concepts about art and its role in the world have been challenged and formed by Gla...
I'm very shocked and sad at the loss of David Bowie! Glass reworked the albums Low and Heroes into symphonies.
Incredible Loss
R.I.P. David Bowie
Looks like an interesting year for Glass' music in Europe!
I'm looking forward to a performance of Akhnaten in March!
Glass Notes: The Year Ahead 2016 "EUROPE!"
Glass Notes publishes an update every week on Mondays. At the outset of a new year I took at glance at the performance calendar at PhilipGlass.com and saw that the first performance listed is of the Second Violin Concerto in Belgrade Serbia. In scrolling further down it seems in general that...
My highlights of 2015 were Glass' Double Concerto for Two Pianos which I bought on iTunes weeks ago and the complete etudes at London's Barbican Centre in April.
Looking forward to more concerts with Glass' music next year!
2015 Year in Review
2014 ended on a high note with the THE COMPLETE PIANO ETUDES having its New York premiere at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, an event which took place immediately after the OMM recording was released as well as the accompanying published sheet music. For 2015, I crafted a small survey of major G...
I knew it was being performed in
London back in 2008, but had to save money.
I'm glad I got to see footage of the world premiere from A Portrait Of Philip In Twelve Parts though.

There hasn't been any plans for a Waiting For The Barbarians opera production in the UK yet, but I hope an opera company there decides to do it soon!
I didn't hear Barbarians until I watched that Glass documentary by Scott Hicks.

I've never visited Linz, but it is a very nice city for classical music.
Kepler and The Lost are both my favourite Glass operas, along with his opera trilogy of Einstein, Gandhi and Akhnaten!
The Bruckner Orchester Linz - My Visit to Linz
Glass Notes publishes an update every week on Mondays. Earlier this month I had the opportunity to go to Linz Austria for the weekend for the city's annual Ars Electronica Festival which also served as the opening event of the Bruckner Orchester's season. I first became aware of the orchestra...
I agree with you Richard, I've been waiting to hear all twenty etudes on recording since hearing some of them at the Barbican three years ago.
Unreleased material is worth listening to, such as that How Now/Strung Out recording from 1968.
I'm looking forward to that Beauty And The Beast piano arrangement CD by Michael Riesman! It's on my wishlist.
The Glass Overflows: Philip Glass Recordings over the past 15 years
Glass Notes publishes an update every week on Mondays. It may be hard for some to imagine, but "it wasn't always like this." In the first two weeks of September I see at least seven new releases which are in part or in whole dedicated to the music of Philip Glass. Among these titles, we hav...
I heard the UK premiere of Glass' Concert Overture (2012) in London's Cadogan Hall last year! Really great piece! Look forward to hearing it on recording again!
