Wow! Last Capstone blog! You future Capstoners better get your pen and paper ready, because you need to write this down! I have created a list below of tips and tricks to get you through Capstone! AMY'S 10 TIPS & TRICKS: 1. Lists! Being a chronic procrastinator, a project that we have three months to complete screams DANGER in my mind. Time management is key through out the Capstone project! I found that creating a To-Do list at the start of everyday helped me stay on task and resist the temptation to watch Breaking Bad on Netflix! 2. Embrace the... Continue reading

We have just over a week until Jon and I present on the 15th of April! I'm actually feeling a strange sense of calm at this point. I think all the stress is slowly fading away and I am getting more excited to share a project that I am proud of with my client! Spent today refining the digital strategy of our Capstone project. When I was researching some information on using Google AdWord's, I came across an awesome website called keywordspy.com. This website lets you look up competitors and see how much money they spend on ads, what keywords... Continue reading

Jon and I are continuing to chip away at our Capstone! At this point, my main Capstone struggle involves the efficiency of my work. Sometimes I feel like I spend way to much time on certain aspects of the report, which then leads me to neglect other portions of the paper. I feel like it is definitely crunch time and we must pick and choose key areas of focus to truly blow our clients away. One strategy that has helped me in my prioritization is referring back to our project charter to see what our overall project goals are. I... Continue reading

Well I had a delightful spring break Rocky Mountain skiing, relaxing with friends and the icing on the cake was when UK beat Wichita State today! Go Cats! But now that Spring Break is finito, its time for Jonathon and I to buckle down and knock our Capstone out of the park (sorry for the corney sports metaphor...I can't help myself). Our meeting with Drew went really well. Prior to our meeting, Jonathon and I had been talking in circles about a potential dynamic variables, but with some guidance from Drew we were able to really narrow down our category,... As the semester is coming to a close, I have been knee deep in work and feeling a little bit overwhelmed. As much as I think it essential to keep on plugging away with this project, I also have found that I need to take some time away from Capstone. I tend to get really wrapped up in Capstone with strategizing, organizing insights and working on the final presentation. I have noticed throughout this experience that when I over work my productivity and quality of work seems to decrease. In order to move forward and perform at my best, I... Continue reading

Jon and I have only one more interview scheduled this upcoming week with Beam Global, but after Thursday we will be done with our Qualitative Research. This weekend I was looking through our 11 interview scripts to find common themes among some of the respondents. Looking over so much rich data feels like such a arduous task, but seeing how the outputs weave together into a cohesive story makes the long process completely worth it. After such a long and conprehensive qualitative research process, the quantitative survey will be a breeze. We have also began drafting the final presentation. The... Continue reading

Somebody call the doctor, because I am coming down with a serious case of Capstone virus. Whether I am running on the treadmill, driving to school, or showering, my mind always seems to drift into thinking about my Capstone project. When learning new class material, I automatically apply new concepts in terms of my Capstone product. As much as I am invested and am enjoying the project, I wish I could turn off my Capstone brain sometimes, like when I am trying to watch The Walking Dead. I can't truly appreciate the Zombie slaying with Capstone on my mind. I... Continue reading

Jon and I have been interviewing up a storm this week. We talked to a former SpencerHall client who provided us with some valuable insights about what she liked and disliked about Transforum. But, the most unexpected insights we found were during interviews with some non-users, the owner of Flipdaddy's Burgers and Beers and a UC department head. We conducted interviews with these individuals to understand how these individuals problem solve at their careers. Both of the non-users unexpectedly said they don't need or desire an ideation tool like Transforum. Bob, the Flipdaddy's owner said, he says everyone is accessible... Continue reading

This week we had a phone interview with a lady named Kelsy from Hallmark, who was a former SpencerHall client. We were hoping to verify our core competence analysis, but Kelsy couldn't remember anything about her work with SpencerHall. But she did provide some unexpected insights about ideation within Hallmark. She said Hallmark departments are constantly competing against each other to come up with the creative ideas and privacy is the hallmark of their corporate culture. So, she was very confident that Hallmark's leaders would be against an online collaborative platform like Transforum. We tried to explain to her that... Continue reading

We are continuing to move forward with our project. It was great talking to Drew during our project review. I think the biggest takeaway from our project review was that Jonathon and I need to completely understand the SaaS platform in order to truly start considering possible features that could be implemented into Transforum. He also suggested collaborating with IS majors and other SaaS savy individual's to help us optimize Transforum's compatability to a SaaS format. The SaaS world is still a little intimidating to me at this point, but I know with a little patience and some research I... Continue reading

First things first, our charter is completed (I apologize for the tacky pun in the title, but I couldn't deter my pun addiction). Our client seemed engaged and enthused about our charter too; which keeps me enthused and energized about moving forward. We are hoping to interview some former clients and employees this upcoming week so we can complete our core competency analysis. So, I'm excited to hear what they have to say. I have also been continuing to research the innovation software industry; which has been quite interesting. Especially, looking at how some of the competing systems choose to... Continue reading

Equipped with the guidance of Drew on Monday and the Capstone packet, I have taken the leap into the scary, yet exciting Capstone waters. My main goal this week was to further familiarize myself with the product and the product category. After the initial meeting, I wasn't completely clear about how exactly the product worked and all the capabilities that it offered. So, I fiddled with the demo that Jon sent us for a little bit and it really helped me build a greater understanding of the Transforum service. I was not very familiar with the various innovation platforms/services that... Continue reading

LET THE CAPSTONE PROJECT BEGIN.... After three weeks of lazy days watching hours of Netflix, drinking beer and hanging out with friends, I was nervous, antsy and energized to dive into the Capstone project at our initial client meeting this past Wednesday. Our client is Jon Hall, one of the partners of the innovation consulting and consumer research firm Spencer Hall. On Wednesday, I was nervous about meeting the client, who had an extremely successful career in marketing for P&G and continues to have success with his current company Spencer Hall, with clients like McDonalds, Coke, Frito-Lay, GE, Gillete, JP...
