Yesterday, we lost the sweet little goat kid that was just born a week ago. He was born just three days after we lost the last one. He was a surprise, too, but we think he may have been born with a defect. He never really got to walking around... Continue reading

I realized that at this point in the game, a weekly plan is unrealistic. We have been sick more times this year than probably ever. I don't know why exactly, but other people in the area say this was a particularly rough year. My thirteen-month-old has been cranky more than... Continue reading

Yes, but how do you keep your wood floor so clean, lol? I have a small farm and there is always some kind of dirt or straw or hay on my wood floor ;-) Anyway, I certainly appreciate seeing the other side of things...I feel less alone in those matters. We never seem to have clothes all clean at the same time...well, once two years ago I did. Then, evening came and we changed into jammies and dirty clothes baskets were being filled again! It doesn't help that my husband is in the Army and he wears two uniforms a day and then civilian clothes after he gets home and then pajamas. And the boys change clothes on a whim. And the baby...oh, the baby!

I haven't written lately. It's been a tough time around here. We seem to keep losing animals. One chicken to old age, one to drowning, one tiny baby chick got too cold and we lost her the first night we had her. We lost a baby turkey and we aren't... Continue reading

But do count your chickens before you go to bed. I was up till the wee hours of this morning because it was stormy and I can never sleep when it's stormy. At around midnight, I got up to go peek on my critters outside. It was rainy and windy... Continue reading

I am a nerd. I always have been. One of the nerdly things I used to do a lot is making up rules. Lots of them. When I was eight and playing board games with my siblings, I created an addendum to the rules. It was very extensive, like "No... Continue reading

Yes, my 13 and almost-15 year old girls help sometimes in the kitchen. It's still sometimes quicker to do it myself. I normally do the kitchen clean-up and such because they help a lot with the outside chores on our little farm. My little ones, specifically my littlest who just turned one, have the bottom drawer and a cabinet to can get into. The drawer is mostly little toys and kitchen implements I rarely use (and I know to wash before use) and the cabinet is just a cabinet full of kid-safe pans and such.
Something that is sinking in finally in my old age (okay, I'm really just in my thirties, but old enough to know better, right?) is that we really do need to take time off. Sundays are really the day. I think we have gotten confused about it in part because... Continue reading

My plans/goals/aspirations this week might seem small to some, but they are not, I assure you. I don't have it broken down into days because I will probably do a little of each everyday until the jobs are done.uc 1. Laundry. It really is a mountain. 2. Work on planning... Continue reading

So, I didn't get done today what I wanted to get done. A few reasons: 1. I am not going to bed on time and I am slooow in the morning. 2. My husband has been off work this week and that always throws me off. 3. I had an... Continue reading

So, today I actually stayed focused on my primary goal, laundry. I knocked out the three loads that have been waiting to be folded, plus about five more loads. Not too shabby. I also maintained the kitchen and worked at my desk for about half an hour filing paperwork. That's... Continue reading

I respect the opinions and suggestions of anyone who is succeeding at something in which I need improvement. That doesn't mean I always have to follow them. See, most organizational gurus will tell you to start with the kitchen. Always start with the kitchen. My kitchen is messier than it... Continue reading

One of the interesting things about where I live is the sheer variety. We moved from one house to another one about five miles away and the difference in the plants and even the green-ness of the place is amazing. I came across a beautiful little gem I had never... Continue reading

I haven't posted in a bit. My husband was in a rollover accident in his truck. My son had an ear infection. My parents came to visit. I had to focus on taking care of life for a moment. Really, that's all we should ever be doing, but sometimes I... Continue reading

Okay, I started this blog with the intent of getting back on track and we've already had a derailment. So, back to the plan. My cute to-do lists weren't working and I don't know why. I think because the format only allows for sixteen daily tasks. I think I exceed... Continue reading

So, yesterday was our first day milking the new girls. The one new girl did not like it, but apparently she had been milked by machine for a couple of months. She kicked and kicked (fyi, if you ever take up milking anything...always keep your body near the front of... Continue reading

I haven't written in a couple of days. We've been quite a busy place around here. We added two new kids (both of them are Nubians, I like to call them "puppy goats" because of their floppy ears.) We then took in their mother and another milk goat. We have... Continue reading

In an effort to improve my efficiency, I am searching for the leaks thereof. One of those things has been the shopping. Grocery shopping, but it's not always for groceries. It's sundries and feed for the critters and stuff for the cars or the fence or whatever else we need... Continue reading

I am going to take just five minutes to smack out a post here. I think this week is a bust. BUST. I am treading water and maybe just a little faster than usual, but I am not making any traction on my plans. Mostly because I am hormonal and... Continue reading

I tried to stay more focused today, but I didn't manage to stick to my list exactly. I didn't get the kids' rooms tidied, but I did manage to fold and put away about a week's worth of laundry this afternoon and I managed to move some dressers into their... Continue reading

This could seriously be the most miserable part of my week. I get distracted in an attempt to do anything, anything other than make phone calls. I don't know if is the 11 years I spent working in a call center or if I just don't like to talk to... Continue reading

I'm sure you've heard it before--we have to take care of ourselves before we can take care of others. It's advice I always find myself agreeing with, but never seem to put to practice. It doesn't seem very practical, does it? Of course, there's a balance. If you're going to... Continue reading

I do have something else to say. To strive toward order this week, the following is sort of an outline or goal-setting list: 1. I have a bunch of phone calls to make. Back when I used to live an orderly life, I found it helpful to list the people... Continue reading

I need a place to hash out my ideas on getting myself back together. I used to have it together but lately, not so much. Lately, I have noticed that nearly every area of my life is out of order. As I get things back together, I want a place... Continue reading
