So, we are going to have 3 LF'ers (Revere, Ruf, Asche) good enough to play everyday, and 3 RF'ers (Frenchy, Sizemore, and Brown), who should never play.

Why would JW EVER long for the DH? And with this team, at least 28 other teams would have a better one.

I know Ruf shows more patience than most, but that works best when you are playing regularly. If he thinks this is his only start for the month, he may try to do too much. Here's hoping otherwise.

Memo to Rich Dubee: Rockies manager calls KK "a smart pitcher" after 7 SO innings.

It looks like if we can depend on the other team to make 3 or 4 errors a game, or give us 5 free passes in an inning, and Revere hitting 10-12 walk-offs, this team should be OK.

Interesting box score. The 2 starters walked 10 batters, Oliver walked 3 and threw 3 WP in 1 inning. Ruf stole a base and Herrera homered. That should be the other way around. Hope this doesn't generate another 6 posts by Tal since my last post.

JW has some powerful eyesight if he can identify those baseball cards in the Jimmy Fallon sketch.

Our Founder citing a pitcher's wins. Oh, the sabermetric horrors!

The article on Monty in the Reading Eagle online has a poll: a) Yes, I like the move. -16% b) Doesn't matter. -16% c) No, Amaro is still here. -68% No need to question my vote.

Pap wants his option guaranteed? Does that mean he gets $26MM no matter how he performs? I was hoping the Phils offered to pay the whole option if it vested to get a better prospect, and then hire Tonya Harding as a "special assistant".

bap: What I do is read the tweets, check the headlines on the right, and then check the # of posts at the bottom. That's easy to memorize when it doesn't change often. I noticed it just changed from 304 to 307, so then I go to the last page. I asked Santa(JW) on a previous page to bring me a "jump to latest comment" link, but all I got was the usual lump of coal. Actually, I got something I wanted for a long time. A "welcome" mat for my front door that says "GO AWAY". My family knows to use the back door:)

aks: According to that last Monty interview, Rube is a newlywed. Maybe that has something to do with his look/weight.

DEAR SANTA: Please bring me a "jump to newest comments" link for Christmas. I'll put out the scrapple and shoo-fly pie for you as usual.

WOW! Winter is boring enough without baseball, it's REALLY boring without BL. GBF: Thanks for the heads-up about Chase, and just in time before the crash. Never thought I would watch Ellen, but that was nice. You are BLer's Minister of Human Interest.

Will the highlight of the 2015 season be Jimmy's return, or Cole vs. Cliff on Opening Day?

How long before Zack becomes "Effin' Eflin"?

CR: Pancho played 270 of his 293 games at 1B, and don't believe that 220 lbs. listed weight. My eye test said otherwise.

I hope this Herrera weighs less than Poncho.

"Multiple paths" on the Rollins deal could mean the Phils have agreed to take 1 of several offers, the return dependent on the amount of cash. More cash, better prospects. They probably have a time frame to make their choice.

Looks like Lester is Boston's #1 target. Owner Henry reportedly flew to Atlanta to meet with him Friday. Probably better for the Phils, keeps Rube from caving in to them.

CT: Thank you on the WAR topic, from the other CT. Apparently, you don't call Billy Beane "Billy Boy", or ask for a day off, unless you want to be traded. Also, you don't ask Torii Hunter personal questions:)

BAP: I don't have the resources to do it, but I'm sure someone on here will do it in a few minutes. Subtract each team's total WAR from their win total and see if you come up with a close range of games that 25 replacement players would win. If its close, then an individual player's WAR might be a good measure.

Juums: Agree. Have you seen the terms? A big signing bonus would off-set any backloading.

I like to bash Rube as much as the next guy, but thinking more on Tomas, that opt-out deal is cause for pause. If he's a flop, you have to pay him 6 years. If he's good, you probably lose him in his prime(28). If it takes 2 years for him to get good, you only get 2 good years out of him.
