I've decided it's not really an interview, since he isn't listed in the show's description. Probably more of an appearance related to the fan....Oh, maybe Ellen's doing a Christmas Wish List thing and the fan whose name was drawn requested to meet Utley. I'm recording it. I'll let you know.

This surprised me: @Phillies 3m3 minutes ago Chase Utley will be on @TheEllenShow at 3 PM ET today! Watch him surprise a special #Phillies fan! How'd this happen, I wonder, and why now? Did the Phillies request it of Utley and Ellen to try to drum up ticket sales? Did Ellen ask him because of his work with animals, maybe? Just seems odd timing given how crappy the Phillies have been, that it's the offseason, and the fact that Utley doesn't much love the spotlight.

Doesn't sound like Hamels really wants to stay there, unless this tweet is misleading, which is certainly possible...but then again, it's only to be expected that he'd rather play for a winner. @JeffSkversky 12m12 minutes ago Phillies Star Cole Hamels on his future: "To go to a team that wants to win" Hear from Hamels on @6abc at 11

Gelb pondering: 1) Whether Utley, like Rollins, might change his mind about remaining with the Phillies; 2) MAG as a starter; 3) Will Howard see less playing time? http://www.philly.com/philly/sports/phillies/20141214_Inside_the_Phillies__With_Rollins_gone__could_Utley_go_too_.html

I did read from one of the writers that it was the cash to SD portion of the trade that was holding up completion, to back up what Jbird said.

I'm still reading the article and haven't caught up to the comments, but this: The Phillies’ total career WAR among all drafted players from 2004 through 2014 is only 27.8 compared to a league average of 100.0. This is not just league-worst, it is less than half of the second-worst Blue Jays at 60.5. begs the question: How the hell do the people responsible for accumulating this deplorable lack of talent retain their jobs? This should be shoved under the noses of the owners, Gillick and Amaro until they give us an answer. Since they don't like stats, perhaps it could be translated into simple production numbers.

Rally Red, I loved your post on Rollins, too. You and Fata have written awesome posts about him.

Oh, yeah, Frenchy. Assuming we move Dom & Byrd, I guess Revere plays LF, Herrera CF, Frenchy RF.

Does Revere move to LF/RF now?

‏@ToddZolecki “@kengurnick: Dodgers are acquiring Howie Kendrick from Angels, according to baseball source.” Forget about Utley to LA. Dodgers have been busy today.

@MattGelb Whither Cole? RT @Ken_Rosenthal: Sources: #Dodgers close to four-year deal with free-agent RHP Brandon McCarthy.

I thought that the reason it isn't a done deal yet (although expected to be) is because the Phillies are giving the Dodgers cash and have to get approval from the Commish.

The news leads with the Rollins story, and I get sad anew hearing the news again.

Excellent, Fatalotti. Thanks.

‏@beerleaguer Not saying Joely can't be good, but you see the vice grip put on prospects when Bastardo = 30th ranked prospect ('13) and A. Miller = $36M.

Well, here is who Dodgers are getting from Marlins. @clarkspencer So just to restate: #Marlins getting Dee Gordon and Dan Haren from #dodgers for Heaney, Kike Hernandez, Austin Barnes and Chris Hatcher

Oh, right, PLM. I forgot. Phillibuster, thanks for the info about the LAD ownership group.

Matt Gelb ‏@MattGelb 54s54 seconds ago Yes. RT @billplunkettocr: Suspect 1 or 2 from Marlins could go to Phillies * * * * BAP, LOL at the utility infielders comment. WP, yes, that is rather what it sounded like re: Dom. OTOH, I'd want my agent to stick up for me, too, I suppose.

I was thinking....Can we trade our owners to the Dodgers for Magic Johnson? It's interesting that a former athlete is doing such a good job of building a baseball team as compared with businessmen. Of course, he does throw dollars at people like they grow on trees, probably because he has so very many of them - and, as a former athlete, really values winning.

Todd Zolecki ‏@ToddZolecki 29s29 seconds ago Sources indicate third team is involved in Rollins deal and money is being exchanged. Needs approval from commissioner's office. Matt Gelb ‏@MattGelb 1m1 minute ago Belief is Phillies-Dodgers are still finalizing players in Rollins trade. Amaro told beat writers not to cancel their dinner plans.

Do we have good player development folks? That's one question I have.

Meghan Montemurro ‏@M_Montemurro 9m9 minutes ago Boras said he has talked to Amaro about #Phillies OF Dom Brown, who wasn't happy about playing time. Boras didn't reveal content of talks. * * * I'm sorry, but I just can't feel bad for Dom here. I felt he was given plenty of opportunity.
