TTI, this used to be the best Phillies blog around. Sadly, it looks like it's on its' way out for good.

I suggest JW change the name of the blog to the Tal Veneda Link Express!

Phillies are considered a possible landing spot for Dayan Viciedo I wonder how long it will be until Tal posts the link to his analysis?

Bubba, KK was overpaid last season based on what he produced. I'm glad he got a job too and wish him well. I appreciate what he did for the team and fans, and loved it when he would stymie the Braves. Coors Field? Yeah, he better throw low strikes and use his changeup a lot.

Tal, you have your own blog. Therefore, why do you come here?

TTI, I'm amazed at the level of self-importance. WTF.

Smitty and TTI, I do think that the Phillies will make a bid for Moncada. I also think it will be a legitimately decent offer. I just don't think they're willing to outbid the Yankees, Dodgers or Red Sox. I also think that there are sleeper teams who have dumped payroll who might view Moncada as an elixir and give him a bonus he'd love. (I look at the Braves and all the payroll they've dumped, and the fact that they've got a new stadium to fill in a couple of years, and the fact that they are owned by a pretty big media company who knows the value of TV ratings as a potential sleeper in the Moncada sweepstakes.) But the important thing to remember about Moncada is he will be signing a MINOR league deal, not a MLB contract. So, the Tomas contract is not applicable, that is, they can't entice Moncada by offering him and earlier shot at FA if he's good. Therefore, any team that gets him will control him for at least six years, and maybe longer depending on how long he's in the minors. So, let's do some hypothetical math: Suppose the Phillies scouts love Moncada, and think that he can make MLB in 2 years, by the age of 21, and that he can play at an All Star level? Let's also suppose that there is universal agreement internally among all MLB teams that he need 2 years in the minors, but that he has THAT upside. That and the fact that because he'll be on a MiL deal they can KEEP him down on the farm at their discretion. So, if he does make it by 21, a team control him for at least 8 years, but he'll still have a shot at a huge payday at the age of 28 (barring an extension). OK, now that we have 8 years of control as the benchmark, how much are the Phillies willing to pay for 8 years of control? If they offer $40MM and pay a $40MM penalty, they're getting him for $10MM/year, but that could be chump change for an All Star level performer in 5 years who is in his peak years. So, while there is risk involved in money($10MM year is a lot of money for an unproven player), plus the fact that they'd be limited to 300K per international signee next season, the prospect of having an All Star middle IF for the forseeable future to pair with Crawford may just entice them to go higher than we think. But, the problem is the other teams in the mix, and the fact that Moncada and his agents may require some sort of assurance as to when he's called up (assuming he performs in the minors) to start his FA clock ticking. I do think the Phillies will make an offer. The obvious question is "How high will they go, and will it be enough?"

Well, JW's tweet are obviously not enough to drive traffic. It's disappointing to, because this was a great blog - the best Phillies blog - at one point. I wonder what they can get from the Brewers for Papelbon?

clout, IIRC Tuffy was always a good defensive catcher. I'm not surprised he has the potential for an MLB job given the lack of talent at the position.

"Btw, I love Tal Venada's tenacity. Haven't read any of the articles, but the guy either has a whole lot of free time or the drive of a zealot. Maybe both." Is it "tenacity" or merely "narcissism"?

Smitty, I guess they really would hate "r00b", which is the way some here have spelled it in the past, in a tribute to the former poster here "b00b".

San Diego wants to include Myers as a centerpiece for Hamels? No way. BTW, when did Brett Myers sign with the Padres?

Jimmy is gone. I'm sad. The FO fucked up to get to this point. I'll repeat the message to Mongomery/Gillick/Amaro and the rest of the baseball ops fuckups for the last 10 years:
