jerome williams hadn't pitched since 2007, when lancaster barnstormers' manager, butch hobson, signed him before the 2011 season. it's a nice story of second chances: http://lancasteronline.com/sports/barnstormers/williams-makes-it-back-to-majors-after-stint-in-lancaster/article_417b71e4-57eb-11e4-827f-0017a43b2370.html

i read that shields got his nickname in HS because he was a big fan of the dodgers and james "big game" worthy.

ha. TBS just turned on the game feed. took 'em a few batters.

the o's pre-game on TBS is a black screen. can they really be so concerned about attendance that they'd block it here in lancaster? we'll see.

a friend, who attended the o's first 2 home victories, is going down for tonight's series opener. SRO are selling for $129. outta be packed. i love that little jewel of a ballpark.

and laroche, another important source of production, is 1 for 10. poor jordan zimmerman had a slight look of disbelief on his face when he was taken out. hudson was almost the first playoff pitcher to lose a complete game since HE did it in 2000. he sure looked good for age 39.

i'm rooting for the nats. to me they are the most "local" team. but it appears once again that they are lacking in "big game" players. span is 0 for the playoffs and werth is 1 for 10. harper is only slightly better at 2 for 11. rendon seems to be the only mr. october, batting .455.

yeah, yellow rally towels waving above a sea of black would have been effective. but they never had much opportunity to use them anyway.

ironically the bucs fans were dressed approprialey...for a funeral. right down to their black rally towels (who thought that was a good idea?).

on the other hand, (as ben davis is practically screaming on the post-game that fans want offense. that they would fill the stands even if the phils lost every night 9-8), tomas' plus power would fit nicely in the smallish cbp.

after reading the report on tomas, i'm not so sure. below average speed. high Ks. a down year last year. he'll get too much money.

ruf had a better chance against a RH than brown at that point. that was pitiful not getting him an AB. FU sandberg.
brown tops my list of guys i don't want to see playing for the fightin's any more. add to him, howard and utley. and sizemore.

will asche PH for franco?
ruf should have started this game for 2 ABs. and asche should be in now.

when the last out is made today i'll be going into 0-SAD mode. that's Off-Seasonal Affect Disorder. and the only salve will be sundays with the eagles and BL hotstove.
2 LH pitchers and ruf can't sniff the plate. on fan appreciation day. that's sad, sandberg.

when ruf walks he can hardly be accused of clogging the bases.

thank god that series is over. the drummers were driving me nuts.

i mean, the phillies' half of the ninth.

ruf's double in the gap to the wall was against a RHP. so he can cancel that dominican trip. anybody else shake their head at removing ruf for a pinch runner after he was at 3rd? (that was the 8th inning, Juums.) i could see it if galvis was going to squeeze. then you want someone faster than ruf. but, otherwise, the chances of scoring are only marginally improved with hernandez. and ruf's bat is lost if the game goes long. in fact, the game ended with franco essentially PH for ruf.

i just realized that. doh! it's 1.72 now.

there goes cesar's 1.80 ERA.

what a day for a philly sportsfan. the eagles at 1 on FOX and the phillies at 4 on CSN, with just a tiny overlap. i'll be drained. the comcast guys must hate that though since it means their post eagles game analysis can't go on live.
