On Tuesday, we had a great flamenco class! Even those who weren't looking forward to having to demonstrate their coordination (or lack of it!) had a great time and learned a lot. Our teacher, Melody, led us through a fascinating, brief history of its roots, styles and development. We practiced... Continue reading

In order to get in the required number of hours, we usually have double Spanish classes on Mondays and Fridays. On Friday for Into the Community, Intermediates and Advanced students visited the equivalent of Best Buy to investigate popular music tastes here in Spain and then reported back their findings. Later today, some will get to sample more in their cooking class, while others will be painting ceramics, and still other learning... Continue reading

In order to practice what they learned in class, with some (or much) trepidation, students ventured into local plazas to "charlar" with friendly passersby. It was exciting to discover how approachable and willing to help they... Continue reading

Those of us participating in Madrid Language & Culture, Session 2, have all arrived safely and are now settling in with our new families. Most of our flights went without a hitch! - everyone made it to our airports in time for a stress-free departure, with only one delayed bag... Continue reading

Interspersed with our mornings of service - teaching English to about 100 children, painting houses, mixing and pouring cement floors, painting lines on a basketball court, and playing sports - we are immersing ourselves in local culture. Boca Chica is the closest and favorite beach for Dominicans in the capital.... Continue reading
