The opening sentence was a huge turn-off for me. Despite it being a weather observation, it seemed inaccurate. If the author writes that a 30 degree day in Australia is oppressive, they clearly have not researched their setting enough. Oppressive heat in Australia is pushing 40 degrees, even if the story is situated in South Yarra.
