Hmm. Google groups are not as flexible or useful as I thought. I had originally wanted to go for a mailing list, which is what they are, but I'm thinking this community needs something else. Oh well. See if we can take up the slack on FrumFollies, then!

Ah. So there's definitely an issue with crosslinking. Is it because I am associated with the group (so it's self-serving) or because it is unpopular with you? You have enough time to read and delete posts: you should have enough time to tell us WHY and WHAT we ARE allowed to post here! "we are not looking to censor anyone" -- That is a complete and utter lie, and you yourselves are proving it.

Ugh, the group isn't as open to the public as I'd like. Well, it's a start; I'll try to find something more accessible.

Have I been banned, or is there just some filter forbidding URLs? Anyway, we're working on something to regroup. Who's interested?

m: What was your crime against Diversified that got your posts deleted? Profanity, name-calling, or linking?

Castliarsdown: if I had a dollar for every project I started and didn't see through to completion, even just ones I was really excited about and thought I'd finish, I'd be able to retire quite happily. So eh, Shmarya didn't finish his books. Maybe someday he will. Maybe he won't. Maybe he was fooling himself to think he'd done anything worthwhile already. Certainly possible. Moshe: I don't really care if Shmarya "sold out" or not. It's pretty plain to me that he was induced with a pretty firm hand, either with carrot or stick or both, to give this place up. And I can't blame him. I hope he really *did* get paid a lot for it. He doesn't "owe" us anything. He doesn't "owe" it to us to keep this blog going. If he wants to stop, who are we to say he shouldn't? To the extent he owes the "cause" of exposing failures in the Jewish community anything, he's long since paid that off with more than ten years of hard work on this blog already. If you think he shouldn't leave his holy quest, then pick up the torch yourself (we're working on it). Alas, you're probably right that we'll never find another like Shmarya, who was THAT abrasive and THAT stubborn. There's plenty to hate about him, to be sure (I don't know him any more than what I see here), but he did a good job here. Anyway. Stay tuned.

Shmarya NEVER had a policy against posting links, at any rate. That's ridiculous. I hate facebook though.

CD: try the newer one, please; I think I lost the deadaddress one. You have to keep your web page active just so...

OK, try the_mark_s@forward.cat please, CD; that should last a little longer and be harder to lose. Thanks and good shabbos!

Sigh, I think I lost that temp email.

H: I have probably posted *volumes* of ramblings in the time I've been here. Feel free to check my postings and judge my punctuational competence for yourself. :)

H: surely we can come up with a catchier name. Ack, I think I already have one in mind...

m: how about we try a handy set of non-profanities... hmm... Mostly made-up words for acoustic similarity, but not all: Doody Frelling (to frell, frell you... "frak" and "fark" sound better, but that's the problem. Frell sounds sillier.) Ace Shin Duke Runt Peas Cake You can probably work out what they're each for... Only the first is not based on sound.

M: I say nothing against your post; I do not believe it should have been taken down. And if you understood R.W.'s post and I misunderstood it, fine; if I understood it and you misunderstood, also fine. That was just a side comment. Either way, taking down your comment is indeed not right. C-D. *GULP*. I am bad with responsibility. You probably couldn't *stop* me from contributing, as a poster or at least a commenter, but don't count on me to keep it going every day. And like most people, I've also got a Day Job to remember. But... but... I do want to help. I'm in IT, though I don't know how most of these modern blog platforms work, but I can learn (I do stuff at lower levels mostly). I don't think I, myself, could get such a blog off the ground... but maybe I can make a difference in helping you/others. Try writing to me at 9024@deadaddress.com which is just a temporary address; then I can write back to you directly.

M: I read your response to R.W., where is it? I almost responded to it, because I thought you had misunderstood the comment, which was not really saying that MMS was the moshiach, in fact the contrary, using it as an "unlikely"/impossible event to compare.

H: It definitely is suspicious, but I was willing to pretend it wasn't to give them the benefit of the doubt. Everything from the name of the company to the timing speaks of some kind of sudden deal. These are the assumptions I spoke of above, that I was trying (or pretending) not to make. Like, that Shmarya was *heavily* pressured (and I think by threats too) into making this happen, that he is under some kind of gag order preventing him from spilling the beans, etc. This is the kind of thing he would hate... which makes me think his hands are really tied somehow. I don't so much care if it's Rechnitz or not, though I guess that does give us a clue into why it was felt necessary to kill this place off. And if Shmarya wasn't threatened but just paid too handsomely to resist--or even not that much but he decided not to resist anyway--I don't care, either, and I hope he did and does well. Still waiting, hanging onto that last glimmer of hope.

Aussie: "You got nothing." -- Yes, pretty much; I agree. The "address" is not going to actually be to anyplace but a mailbox, if that. Yeah. Time to start a new blog. Suggestion: more than one of us be posters, so it isn't a single person doing all the posting and getting all the vitriol. I'm way, way too unreliable to spearhead this effort. But count me in if I can help.

OK. I'm really, REALLY running out of good will here. Can it only be lack of time that they haven't posted the (at least) *two* Shmaryaworthy stories that have been mentioned so far? If so, then basically they have until the next post they make to post either one of those or something equally significant (by OUR standards, not theirs). The next post is make-or-break. As to accusations of history-changing, if you think a page was edited, please find specific examples and post links to the old version on archive.org, so it can be shown FOR SURE that it's changed, not "gee, I remember Shmarya being meaner." If I assume what I've been avoiding assuming so far, it's pretty plain that some anti-Shmaryas have bought up FM for the purposes of shutting it up (or shutting it down, which is the same thing). I'll assume that this was done by means of *heavy* financial reward promised and/or *heavy* threats of some sort made to Shmarya, and he will be similarly enjoined from telling us anything. The conclusion is quite interesting, though: it means this place was enough of a threat that someone had to take it seriously. Maybe he was on to something. Maybe some of the recent articles were bringing too much attention to something. Somehow someone has to pick up the torch on these matters, because they really, really shouldn't be allowed to vanish in silence. I call "not it!" on account of being extremely lazy and chickenshit.

Wigmore: there's "Ron Pearl", listed as their contact. And the address, 9900 Sample Rd, Coral Springs, FL (should be West Sample Rd, I think, according to Google Maps). There is a "diversified holdings group" incorporated in Florida and based in the Bronx, interestingly. But I think that's a coincidence, actually. The company dates from some months ago.

I'm pretty sure Wow Tough Audience is right. I don't think anything has been changed. Maybe you just remember it being more critical than it actually was.

Heretical: it's a group of more than one person, or someone speaking on behalf of one, what pronoun do you expect?

Meanwhile, by now you really should see about posting the news about Chabad in Melbourne. It's been noised about here on the comments for a while. Declining to post it at all would probably be absolute final proof that FM is dead and gone to many: there is no way it would have been missed in the BeforeTime. Sigh. Why do I have a sinking feeling that in a few months the scandal of the day will be when we find out the wheeling and dealing and promises and pressures used to get Shmarya to sell this place?

Yes, "where are you holding" is definitely a yeshivism. An occasionally useful one (somewhere I have a blog post about yeshiva slang and its applicability in other fields... I've told people that in some programming languages, whitespace is not me'akeiv). So? So they tipped their hand regarding their background. They still deserve a chance to prove they can do what needs doing on FM. You maybe can guess what their opinions *probably* are from their background, but not what they *actually* are. Still watching.

Wigmore: "Like many, I've tried a Google search of "Diversified Holdings" and am unable to learn anything. There are too many results." I at least got an address, phone number, and email off the domain registry. And a "name" that could be an alias. Not much to go on, but at least I found their building on a satellite shot at Google Maps, so we'll know where to direct the ICBMs...

H: "Who decides?" Well, usually Holding A will talk it over with Holding C, and they try to make sure that Holdings B and E are okay with it. (what, like they have names to us, that could answer your question?) "This seems very amateurish." -- Maybe. But you can improve, diversified! I know you can. Make me regret I ever doubted.
