This week marks our final full week of our capstone project. Our presentation has been scheduled for next Thursday, and Erin and I have been making the final edits and changes to our paper and presentation. Somehow this project has felt both that it's lasted forever and also that it's flown by. Some of the best advice that I could give to future groups is to start your paper early on. This is something Erin and I did right away; every time we finished a component to our project we wrote that element of the paper. That way, in the... Continue reading

Admittedly, I am a day short writing this blog post. After traveling for work for the past 2 weeks I returned home yesterday evening and realized today I had not written a post for Monday yet (sorry Drew.) Luckily, Erin and I feel that we're in a good place with both our content, our final paper, our presentation, and most of all our recommendations for GCWW. It's felt like it has been so long that we've been working on this project together, it's fun to see it all starting to come to a conclusion. What I'm most looking forward to... Continue reading

After meeting with Drew a couple weeks ago, we felt a whole lot better about the scope of our project. We ended up sending an email to our client about moving one of the three pillars of our Capstone to a new Capstone group this summer who will be able to solely focus on current and new revenue streams for GCWW in the areas of outsourced billing and analytical services. With the remaining pieces of our project (residential and commercial) we have since combined many of our efforts into one overall "branding" instead of separate project entities. This in itself... Erin and I have had a few stressful weeks in a row for this Capstone project. On top of traveling for work all week and heading straight to Chicago to be in a wedding this weekend, there has also been the added stress of our Capstone project closing in and yet still feeling lost. After our second in-person meeting with our client a few weeks ago, we have lost all communication from her. We've sent multiple emails and follow ups with much needed information from her without any response. One of our three research pillars is very dependent on critical... Continue reading

Erin and I are currently venting to each other over wine and laptops and Big Picture textbooks. The past week and the upcoming week have been and will be very stressful weeks for us in our personal and professional lives (traveling for work, interviewing for promotions, an upcoming wedding for Erin, etc) on top of the stress Capstone has been bringing us lately. In our last class we mentioned that our biggest fear right now was that our project was too big and out of scope for us, and in the past week that hasn't changed much. In particular we... The past week was probably the most relaxed week Erin and I have had so far. At this point in our project we feel comfortable with where we are at in terms of workload (realizing that we spend at least some time every single day working on Capstone and at least 3 hours together on the weekends). Despite still having slow responses from our client on materials and information needed, we continue to move forward on other elements along the way so that nothing comes to a standstill. As discussed in class last week, our biggest fear at the moment... Continue reading

This week was by far the most difficult one in the course of this project. After struggling to get respondents to take our online survey, we turned to "scrappier" methods, followed by a dumb mistake on my end which left us in an awkward situation with our client. For someone who likes to stay on top of things and is a researcher by profession, I was feeling incredibly down and embarrassed by the mistake. With our client meeting approaching at the end of last week, I was extremely nervous about the outcome and the overall mood of our client team.... Continue reading

This past week was a bit of a slow one as far as our research progress. We still have our respondent survey active on Qualtrics while we try to get to 50 completes (not counting everyone who disqualifies) in our survey. Since we still have yet to receive the list of top 75 commercial customers from our client at GCWW; Erin and I set out on our own to connect with people from various businesses around the Cincinnati area to talk to them about their use of water for their company and their experience with GCWW themselves. I was able... Continue reading

This week has been filled with peaks and valleys as far as our project goes. Erin and I had our first project review with Drew on Monday and we were feeling fairly confident afterwards. Drew gave us some good direction but also filled us with encouragement and pushed us forward in the right direction. We've been struggling (as it sounds like some others have as well) with getting our client contact to connect with us on various things. On Tuesday I was able to speak with her over the phone but she seemed extremely stressed and frazzled. The current situation... Continue reading

Erin and I have been moving full speed ahead with our project on Greater Cincinnati Water Works. At this stage in our project, I find myself getting excited about the potential directions we could take in the re-branding of GCWW. It's easy to get caught up in the potential marketing efforts and visuals of the re-branding, but recognizing there are so many steps we need to take before we can actually get to that point. As of now, Erin and I have conducted a marketing audit that we've begun to receive responses from, both from residents and from GCWW staff... Continue reading

Over the past couple of weeks Erin and I have charged full speed aheads towards our capstone project and in immersing ourselves into this project. After initially receiving the project brief from our client Stephanni, we were somewhat concerned about the scope of the project and if there were a few things requested that were out of our marketing realm (a predictive model of contaminants in the water, for one). In our initial client meeting, we were met at Greater Cincinnati Water Works by not just Stephanni, but an entire conference room of GCWW staff, including the overall Director of... Continue reading
