Colonial Conference Champions The Gloucester City Lions Boys Basketball team won the Patriot Division of the Colonial Conference with a overall record of 10-5 in inaugural season beating visiting 47 -42 at home. The host Lions and the Green Wave battled back and forth with each team taking small leads until the Lions broke tie with a little more then one minute remaining. Junior Steven Light 15 points and Senior Jason Pino 13 points paced the Champion Lions. The Gloucester City High School Lady Lions Basketball team improved to 6 - 0 in the Colonial Conference with a 40 - 25 win over visiting Gateway. Led by Senior Allyson Velez's 14 points and 12 points from strong inside play of Emily Keith the Lions stayed at the top of the Division. The Lions trailed Gateway 16 - 15 at halftime, but the second half was all Lions, winning the second half 25 - 12. Gateway dropped to 3 - 2 with both losses at the hands of the Lions. The GHS Lady Lions advanced to 3 - 0 with a 42- 17 win over visiting Paulsboro. The host Lady Lions jumped out to a 16 - 4 first quarter lead and never looked back. Lady Lions defeated Lindenwold 58 - 12 on Tuesday and Thursday beat Lindenwold 50 - 10 in the Lions Colonial Conference debut behind seniors Crystal Johnson, Allyson Velez and Emily Keith. The Lions debut wins, came under the cloud of Covid Restrictions. No parents (not even seniors) who were allowed to watch their children play. Only allowed during the game were game day personnel who were premitted in attendance. In game one Senior Allyson Velez scored game high 18 points with 4 three pointers and Senior Crystal Johnson scored the games first 3 points enroute to scoring 12 points. (GLOUCESTER CITY, NJ Nov. 28, 2020)--The local Lions had two weeks of no practice / no contact because of Covid-19 and returned for preparation against the hometown rival Rams on Friday. The Lions showed no rust while crushing the Rams behind 4 touchdowns (3 rushing / 1 receiving) by Stephen Burkhardt. The Gloucester Catholic Rams Football team has seen more downs then ups this Pandemic Season. The Rams were forced to cancel several games due to Covid-19 and entered todays game 2- 1 against a strong Audubon team with 6 wins in its first 7 games. (CNBNews)-GLOUCESTER CITY NJ--The Pitman Panthers entered J.A. Lynch Stadium in front of a pandemic Homecoming crowd of around 500 fans. The local Lions weren't very hospitable to the visiting Pitman Panthers scoring 35 first-half points and invoking the running clock rule to start the second half. Early scoring by the Lions Steven Burkhardt (2 Tds) and the onslaught of Kyrin Nelson who scored 4 times on runs of 12, 55, 15 and 15 yards ended any hopes of the Panthers taking home a victory. The much anticipated 2020 GHS Lions Football got off to an impressive start in Lindenwold winning 50 - 14. The opening kickoff saw the Lions kick returner Chris Dolson ramble down to Lindenwold 35 yard line before Steven Burkhardt started to scoring. Quickly the Lions defense confused the Lindenwold Lions offense resulting in a muffed punt setting up the Gloucester Lions for another score. The Lions along with other New Jersey High School's will play a limited shorten campaign. The Lions who competed in the Tri-County Conference for over 50 years will compete in all sports beginning fall 2020 (except Football) in the Colonial Conference. The Goucester City Middle School held its 2020 Eighth Grade Graduation tonite. Due to the current pandemic, student were socially distanced and family and friends occupied both sides of the John A Lynch Football Field. by CNBNews Staff BROOKLAWN, NJ—Brooklawn School's first year Coach Austin Darrow never expected his first championship game as a Head coach would be decided off the court instead of on the hardwood floor of a gym. Darrow was forced to decide before the game whether to sit his best player over a personal issue and probably lose the game for his entire team or play the game as if nothing happened. After getting support from players and parents, Darrow felt setting aside his principles was not worth a Championship. The local Lions boys team battled until no time was left to beat visiting Clearview 59-58 on two foul shot by Rasheer Fleming. In a wild last two minutes, Freshman Liam Gorman tied the game at 41, before Clearview increased the lead to 49-41 with over one minute left. A mad comeback was now in the makings, missed fouls shots by Clearview allowed the Lions to battle back from an 8 point defecit. Down 58-57 with 9 sec remaining the Lions pushed the ball to Fleming who missed the potential winning shot as time expired. The Gloucester City Lady Lions hosted visiting Clearview in a battle of ladies basketball. But for those in attendance the pre-game ceremonies is what many came to witness. The Lady Lions family exhibited the true Gloucester City Spirit as they displayed a banner dedicating the 2019 - 2020 season to Frank Keith. Frank Keith, father of Lions center Emily suddenly passed away 2 days before their season opener was a fixture seated in the Lions bleacher as dedicated supporter of GHS.
