In the interview in the link to the Independent, the master of the sneer Will Self when meeting Dworkin in a cafe describes the waiting staff as "a dwarfish collection", difficult with his attitude to the masses to know whether he was talking literally or just being his usual up his arse Self and using a word for the sake of it to describe the numbers.

Andrew is totally correct, I do remember this fog but the pictures do not reflect the severity that was seen by most of us. I also went to school feeling my way along the fences etc and the buses that ran had a man with a flare walking in front of them.

From Margaret E Jacobsen Even though all too often I was uncomfortable hearing the jokes about black people, uncomfortable with the touching of my body and the backhanded compliments, I put the needs, comfort, and safety of white people above my own. Of course you do !
