As I write my final blog post this semester, I think back to our first class in early January when I thought time would be my friend on this project. this past week was a big step in my project. I was able to successfully send out my surveys on MTurk. Although I initially set my parameters too specifically, I was able to utilize a resource at LPK to help me optimize my distribution. I've gotten 1,000+ responses amongst the two surveys. And, while some will need to be thrown out, I have more than enough responses for a significant sample size. My next step is to wrap up collecting responses and then begin to analyze the responses to put together insights for the final deliverable. Continue reading

This week, I finalized my surveys in Qualtrics and sent them to my client for review. We have a call set up for later today to discuss and make changes, if necessary. I'm curious what her thoughts will be, and if she thinks this will be sufficient to gather insights. I assume there will be some changes necessary, but I'm hopeful that the overall theme is on point with her thoughts. This week was filled with trials and tribulations as I continue to maneuver through this project. With time no longer on my side, I'm starting to feel the days to the presentation tick down. My project has become deceptively challenging because of its vagueness and broadness. In my surveys, it's quite challenging to try to uncover key insights on buying habits of a target audience while remaining brand-agnostic. It has been a stressful week, but I'm starting to breathe a little better. I started worrying a lot about the final deliverable and how I would present my insights to my client. But after trading some emails back and forth with my client, Susan, I feel a lot better about where I am. I'm progressing through my interviews and am beginning rough drafts of my survey design. My takeaway this week is that in-person interviews take longer than I anticipated. People tend to talk a lot when talking about themselves, and they talk even more when talking about their children. I still have more interviews to complete, but I realize the largest chunk of work will be synthesizing all of the responses that will allow me to move to my next step. After the interviews I've completed already, I already spot trends and similarities in terms of certain answers, which is helpful. After meeting with Drew last week, I realized I needed to quickly align with my client about how specific they want me to take my research. From initial project overview to what my client explained to me, there were quite a few disconnects, so gaining the clarity and aligning on specifics was helpful. From there, I was able to tweak my interview guide and was also able to alter my interviewee list. I've started compiling a list of people to interview, which I start this week. As I move along through my capstone process, I feel as if I am in a good place currently. My client agreed to my project charter and signed away, giving me the ability to start my research. Thankfully, my client has been extremely easy to work with and responsive in my communication. This phase of the Capstone project was about mapping out deliverables and a timetable for each deliverable. While this project is unique in that it's not for a specific company or product per se, there are still many deliverables that I need to address to ultimately deliver the final deliverable. Thankfully, this project is very similar to a past project that I've worked on in Market Research so I am familiar with the process of gathering both qualitative and quantitative data.
