By Veredith Keller, IMAGINiT Building Solutions One of the best workflows for detailing steel connections is to model the steel framing in Autodesk Revit 2016 and Export the model to Advance Steel 2016 for detailing. With the Advance Steel 2016 Extension, Autodesk® Revit® 2016 users can quickly connect their models to Advance Steel 2016 using the export, import, and synchronize functionalities to transfer the model BIM data. This interoperability allows users to rapidly produce general arrangement drawings, fabrication drawings, BOMs, and Numerical Control (NC) files for steel structures. The synchronization of BIM data between applications allows the user to update... Continue reading

In residential architecture, as well as other types, it is often a required part of the working drawing set to be able to show the roof overhang as a hidden line on the floor plan views. Out of the box, Revit doesn’t do this because Revit shows it as it’s built. Meaning that in the real world we don’t see a dashed lines on the ground so we know there is a roof above. To get Revit to do this there is a simple work around that I have outlined below. Continue reading

By Jordan Mussett, IMAGINiT Building Solutions Deliverables for projects utilizing Revit often include dwg copies of the drawings in addition to the pdfs and native Revit files. That is normal, but sometimes the client has their own CAD standards that you have to comply with for that deliverable. This post will explain how to override necessary layers in the export dialogue so you don’t have to get into scripting a bunch of AutoCAD dwgs unnecessarily. Let’s start with the high level options. You have a default layer export that is chosen for you based on the AIA layer guidelines. There... Continue reading
