Today I am writing my very last blog post for the Capstone course - that is if Professor Boyd doesn't fail me :). Why am I writing my last post? Because our group just finished our final presentation for Hubert today - and let's just say after this class tonight, I will be buying a very nice bottle of wine to celebrate! This semester of Capstone has been quite a journey and today was a true vision of how intense this course can be. I had pre-presentation jitters all day, practiced my presentation points at least 15 times and was... Continue reading

This past week was quite hectic for our group. After we had presentation run-throughs with group last Monday evening, what we thought was a great presentation, actually need a lot of work. We spend almost 6 hours Tuesday night after our meeting perfecting the presentation and basically starting from the drawing board. When we were finished, we couldn't believe how much better everything looked and sounded. Our group went into our follow-up Skype meeting Friday with Drew much more confident..and our hard work paid off. We only had a few minor flaws to fix over the weekend to our presentation... This weekend was one of much success for Team Hubert - we not only finalized our report (which ended up being 65 pages...singled spaced) but we also finished up our presentation. It feels so good to finally have all of this under our belts and to focus on perfecting our presentation and our message for the Client in less than two weeks. It's crazy to think that this long journey is about to come to an end. Most students may be a little melancholy to this ending, but I couldn't be happier. This semester has been a bumpy one! Though... Continue reading

This past week was a stressful one, but equally as fulfilling. I was designated as the report compiler from the outset and even though we all had written our report portions as we went, it was still a lot more work than I had initially pictured. Whether it was making sure all of the different sections transitioned well, the report and tables were formatted correctly, figures and tables were numbered, the references were in check and in alphabetical order and that the appendix had everything it needed, this report compilation was a legitimate week long project. Last night I was... Continue reading

The week before Spring Break I was so excited for the next week to get ahead on all of my classes and be ahead of the game for this week. Well, I don't even remember Spring Break or having a so called, "break," my week was SO busy - that's what this entire semester has felt like, busy. Needless to say, all of the work I needed to get done this week ended up getting done on Sunday, the last day of Spring break. I'm not too mad about my lack of getting much done over Spring Break because I... Continue reading

This was a tough week for our group, we all needed a major restructure, and oddly enough, that was the topic of discussion for our class. This class time was incredibly important for us to work through any underlying issues we had, refocus and get back on track - and that's exactly what we did! Time is of the essence at this point of the game and when I looked at my list of to-do's for the upcoming week, it's getting shorter and shorter; I won't lie, I am a bit relieved - this has been a long semester! Our... Continue reading

This past Sunday I was excited to get a head start on my weekly deliverable so I had time the rest of the week to perfect it as well as get other homework done. The week before last, things didn't go as planned with my Market Opportunity Analysis and I had to extend my deadline by a week because of lack of information; because of personal discipline, I didn't want to have to do this again. Well, this week, while opening the field book to look at my deliverable, the segmentation analysis, I soon realized that this was something that... Continue reading

Throughout my entire collegiate career time management is one thing I've really had a firm grasp on. This past week, however, all my schoolwork was piling up, and my time management skills were tested, especially for Capstone. Despite our entire week off because of the snow, I still had to work full-time and do homework in the evenings. This week I was assigned the market opportunity analysis portion of our project. I waited until the middle of the week to work on it because I was so busy with other classes and I soon realized that I did not have... Continue reading

This week Team Hubert split up the project workload and we each worked on a different analysis - my job was to complete the white space adjacency analysis. Going into this week I was feeling pretty confident with this task because I felt like I had experience with it in my Marketing Strategy course last semester. I hit quite a few roadblocks, however, it was a lot more difficult than I had initially imagined. I think I had such a hard time with it because there was just so much information to process that needed to be compiled into this... Continue reading

This week our group ventured out on our own and hosted an Attribute Value Mapping workshop for our Client, Hubert. In their initial documents our Client had requested we host one, so we were excited to take on the challenge! I was a bit nervous at first just because I was unsure and anxious to see if it would flow as well as it had in class - and honestly, it went even better! Our Client had fun guessing one main word the ad deck portrayed and even more fun doing the exercise with their own company. The AVM that... Continue reading

As our group sent off our charter last week there was one deliverable our client requested that was daunting me...this workshop involving attribute value mapping. As I looked at sample reports from other students who had taken the course, this portion of the project seemed confusing and consisted of a wall full of sticky notes with one word plastered on them. This was foreign to me, I didn't understand its importance or relevance to the overall project. It was not until class this past Monday did I understand and truly appreciate its worth. Professor Boyd had each student group conduct... Continue reading

During the first Capstone class the only thing I could think about was this scary, long charter that Drew was speaking of that my group would need to spend a lot of time on. At the time, it sounded scary; however, our group completely kicked its butt this week. When I initially looked at the Blackboard document examples to see the guidelines we needed to follow, for some reason I looked at the sample report and FREAKED. We had told our Client we'd have this charter done and to them by the end of the month - this thing was... Continue reading

This past week was the first week of Spring classes and the beginning of the last semester of my collegiate career...well at least for the next decade. The week started off with my capstone course and challenged me, along with the rest of the class, with the task of building a marketing plan for a pre-selected client. At first I was a bit hesitant, intimidated, and bit unsure of what to expect. In the past, a lot of the previous companies I worked for did just this, met with clients, found their "problem" and created a plan/map to help them... Continue reading
