I've seen this talk twice and I love the way she explains it to such a wide audience. I also really like how she brought a little bit of politics into it and connected the two. I'm really interested in the deeper science behind the cycles of climate we go through. I know we touched on it in class yesterday, but I would also like to understand the politics behind the 'cycles' and what make this time different.

While in theory this sounds really great, it may not be as feasible as it seems. I feel like it's human nature to want to see immediate results and have short term benefits, setting aside the long term consequences... especially when it comes to their personal livelihood. While the paper thinks about the economic stand poingts i feel like it does not weigh the human nature side of it as much as it should.

I'm curious as to what the common response would be including people are not seasoned divers and people that are moderately seasoned divers. Also, I think something else interesting mentioned in the study was the difference in long term and short term benefit within the context of the environment. I see it as a major problem in the general populations' understanding of environmental issues and conservation. This day in age we are focused on the short term and as a consequence we disregard the long term impacts these actions will have.

I think the interesting thing about Hardin is that his ideas to the Tragedy of the Commons is so applicable to multiple disciplines. Even though it focuses on population control, I have read this piece for multiple classes regarding politics, biologically, philosophy and each time get something out of it. For instance, the bigger the 'commons', the less of a accountability each person feels. While Hardin puts his ideas in such a simple realm but when you think about you, yourself making these sacrifices in different contexts. This relates to the prisoner's dilemma as well. In both situations, when one defects, it makes it much harder on the rest.
