We had our first presentation last week and got some incredible feedback from Drew and everyone else in class. I was also really impressed with the presentations done by all the other teams; it really showed how much effort everyone had put in! This week, the team made all the final corrections to the presentation and is now waiting to hear Drew’s feedback. We have also been following up with the client regarding the final date of the presentation. Continue reading

This week the team completed the presentation and is now looking forward to get some feedback from Drew and the class! We have also been in communication with our client, however, with the recent turn of events, we are still waiting to hear from them regarding the final presentation schedule. This has been an incredible semester; working on the capstone project has definitely helped me grow as a marketing professional even before I’ve actually graduated!! Throughout this journey, I've met some incredible people, learnt so much about an industry I hardly knew anything about and most importantly made loads of... Continue reading

This week was intense and very shocking, just when the team was almost ready with the content, news broke that the FBI had raided Evans Landscaping!!!! The team had set up a few interviews with the owner, Doug Evans, but with this raid we unable to speak with any of the Evans Employees. It is alleged that the company was involved in mishandling of funds, ecommerce frauds and even mired in a marijuana racket! The exact nature of the investigation is still unclear, however, we hope to get in touch with the client soon. Despite this major setback, we made... Continue reading

The team finally collected all the Market Research data from customers and started the initial analysis. We also had our second project review and Drew provided us with some additional insights to improve our analysis. To understand customers better, we also set up additional client interviews this week and hope to gain a better understanding of the situation. The team is in the final stages of completing the capstone project, and have now started to focus on writing and preparing for the presentation. Overall this was a slow week, but the team is all geared up to complete the capstone... Continue reading

This week the team finally made some great process! We managed to get all our surveys completed and also had our second project review. We never imagined collecting customer responses would be such a difficult task! Evans Landscaping was considerate enough to give us a $10 coupon to encourage customers to participate in the survey. However, despite this many customers were rude and lacked interest in completing the survey! Although tough, overall we had a great learning experience speaking to these customers. Drew was also satisfied with the team’s progress so far and we now look forward to complete the... Continue reading

This week was productive albeit very slow even though the team spent hours working with the client. The weekend rain along with Father’s Day did not make it any easy for us to get responses from customers. Our aim was to get at least 30 responses this weekend, however, we could manage only 15. Unfortunately our customers only visit the store on weekends and now we have to wait another week to get sufficient responses. We never expected to work for 12 hours at the store to only get 15 responses from customers, but then expect the unexpected from the... Continue reading

We had our first project review this week and it was good to know that our team is progressing in the right direction. Drew was happy with the work we did so far, however, we have long way to go! This week we plan to visit the competitors of Evans Landscaping and it would be interesting for the team to personally visit these stores and further compare it to Evans. Additionally, we also started writing the final capstone document and realized that it is a lot of work! Our advice to future capstone teams is to start writing the final... Continue reading

Again, this week we had a chance to speak to a couple of Managers and Retail Customers of Evans. Although this week was highly productive, it was by no means easy! After months of studying all the customers of Evans Landscaping, we realized that it would be impossible to complete this project on time if we failed to narrow the scope of the project. Only after speaking to Prof. Drew last week, we managed to finally nail the target customer and made some good process this week. Lessons Learnt- Dig deeper, keep questioning and be ready for client visits even... Continue reading

Although we started working on our Capstone project much earlier than the rest of the class, we realized that we hadn’t progressed as much as we had hoped for. However, on the brighter side, one of the biggest lessons we learnt is that in the initial stages of the project, it is best to completely immerse yourself on the issue and understand the concerns of the clients. Our team spent weeks visiting the clients, customers and even speaking to the Management of the company. Even though we had a slow start, we are now confident of reaching our goals as... Our initial client meeting was exciting, we learnt a lot about the company and also the Landscaping industry. Although the US economy is steadily recovering from the global recession, it has managed to alter the Construction and Landscaping industry for years to come! In our first client meeting we learnt that the recession brought a significant decline in Residential and Commercial construction and since most of the Evans’ divisions are tied to construction, this decline has had a major, negative impact on its sales growth. Additionally, since the cost of entry for the Landscaping industry is low, many competitors have... Continue reading

We started working on our Capstone project early and it’s been a fun and yet an extremely challenging experience! When dealing with enthusiastic clients, it’s imperative to be in constant communication and let then know that their project is important to us. To help the client feel valued, we even met them during our Finals week and regularly kept them updated about the details of the project. Yes, working with a passionate client is challenging, however, it makes you realize that your work and opinion is valued! Initially, when we learnt that our client was in the Landscaping business, it... Continue reading
