So one of the main things I do with my free time here at Norwich is volunteer my time at a local soup kitchen. I have done this ever since I was a freshman and now I am the student leader for this community event. So I thought I would share a photo of tonight’s event. Continue reading

It has been snowing like crazy here recently, so much more than in years past. As a native southerner I am still not used to the cold weather and I get sooo cold some days. So I thought I would show you a picture of the weather from my room. Continue reading

Hey guys! Finals are here, and for those who are STEAM majors finals are coming soon. We are excited to see the end of the semester and prepare for a nice long break ahead. I am super excited and ready to get home and relax. My Thanksgiving break was nice, a change, but could have been better if I didn't have a ton of homework to work on the whole week at home. However, I am happy that I worked on my homework and papers, because that allowed me more time once back at school to work on other things at hand. Things to look forward to in the future are: the Christmas holiday dinner, secret santa with my section, and a little housing party. My section will also spread holiday cheer by decorating the housing office for Christmas. These are things we do each year. I hope that once... Continue reading

Well I believe thanksgiving break was a success. I had a great time and got a lot of rest. I met my foreign exchange brother for the first time. I took him and my siblings out for ice cream so I thought I would post that photo. Continue reading

So as you all know Halloween is around the corner and I am very excited because this is my favorite holiday. My friends and I are going to dress up and go to Chipotle in Burlington for four dollar Booritos. This is an event they do in order to get some more business going during this time of year. In order to receive the deal you have to be in costume and order in store. So after class on Wednesday, my friends and I are going to be making the hour trip to get these burritos. To top that off we are going to go trick or treating once we get back in the neighborhood surrounding Norwich. My roommate and I have done this since we were sophomores so it is the last time we can do this as our Halloween tradition. It is very sad to think of this... Continue reading

So my mid semester break was great, I ate a lot of food and had a great time with my friends. My favorite part of the trip was visiting this small sushi restaurant and showing my friend how to eat sushi and use chopsticks. She loved the hand rolls and I got her to try a few different types of sushi. While she was learning and trying the basics of sushi, my roommate and I were eating and trying new sushi. Just getting away from the school and having some time off campus was wonderful. We just had a great time with each other and we went shopping while were in Montreal. We went to Forever 21 and we found some great deals and got some great clothing pieces. We stopped at a few other places to eat and shop but that was the best place for us because the... So this will be my last mid semester break, I have mixed feelings about this. I am sad because it will be my last break at Norwich and with my college friends. I am happy because I am going to experience new things in Graduate school and make new friends to do these things with. For this mid-semester break, my roommate, friend and I are going to Montreal, Canada. We are going for a nice girls weekend, this weekend will be a nice break from the average Norwich weekend. It will help us all de-stress from life and from Norwich life. While in Montreal we will be going to the underground shopping center and we will shop until we drop. Then we will also go try different types of food and then try name brand fast food in Canada. I have already looked and the menus are vastly different than... Continue reading

it is almost that time of the semester. Yes, that’s right Midterm exams. So you need to know how to prepare for exams. Mske sure to get lots of sleep during the exam week because you can not operate properly or as efficiently when you are tired. Make sure to schedule all of the studying to end by a certain time so you can get at least eight hours of sleep. Or maybe try to sneak a few naps in your schedule. Eat healthy, eating right can help your body process information faster and preform better when properly fueled. Try to avoid fueling on coffee and donuts, try veggies and water. This doesn’t seem like a big deal but eating right can help you in the long run. Make sure to take some time to relax and unwind after a long hard day. It is very important that you are... So this is my last family weekend. My family is not coming but it is going to be fun because I am going to spend it with my Norwich family. I am super excited because we are going to go out and eat, then maybe a little shopping and enjoying the time we have with one another. My roommate and I are particularly excited for going to eat because we are going to our FAVORITE place which is Chipotle. It is so fun and the food quality is superb. Also I will be doing some Adjutant things for the parades going on this weekend, which is very cool and kind of fun. Today, all the parents are on campus and walking around with there rooks. I remember my freshman year for family weekend. My family did not come up but a girl from my area came up. They adopted me... Continue reading

Why did I choose Norwich? This is a good question that most college students would reply to with a basic answer "this school just fit me" well that is not the case me. Norwich didn't fit me, I was a perfect fit for Norwich. I wanted to go to a college that would give me structure and allow me to grow as a leader. I looked at other military colleges but this is where I fit in the most. When you are a rook, you are not here to make the college fit you, you are here to fit and conform to the Norwich standards. Which is what I did. Norwich has made me a better person by allowing me to learn from my mistakes, grow as a leader, and be more responsible for my actions. I am proud to say that "I am a Norwich woman of honor and... Continue reading

Self care is always really important, there is always a need to do some self care and relax. When most people hear "self care" they automatically assume that something is wrong and you are caring yourself to fix whatever is wrong. That is not always the case, because you can just self care because it makes you feel better as a person. I have a daily self care routine and I try to treat myself, at least once a week. My routine starts with me going to the gym because it relaxes me and I can blow off some steam while getting in shape. Self care is all about knowing yourself and doing what you know will help you. My once a week self-care routine is to do a face mask to clean out my pores and relax. Self care is done to lighten your stress load from the normal... Continue reading

Well everyone it has been a very busy first few weeks back. As a senior I feel like I have more corps obligations now than I have ever had. This year I am the Regimental S1 Officer In Charge and this job requires a good bit of my time. I arrived on campus on August 7th to start work for the corps and get everyone ready for their housing assignment. As the summer progressed we got everyone in a bed and checked in all the new rooks. It has been a struggle adjusting to my new class schedule. This semester I am solely emerged in my major and minor course work. This semester I am taking my senior seminar class, which is an independent research method course and I am helping facilitate Literary Methods. A class I took my sophomore year as an English major. My job is to act... Continue reading

As the semester comes to a close, everyone starts to cram for their finals. This is also the most stressful time as a college student. I am very fortunate to be able to have all my ducks in a row and I am prepared for papers and finals I have in the future. This week is gonna be busy: I had to turn in a paper yesterday, a draft was due today and I have a chameleon release to do, and two papers due Friday. This can seem like not that much but typing out four or five papers can be very hard and stressful. To combat this I started two weeks ago, I started with the paper that was due first and just work my way out from there. Also I am trying to pack so I can put my stuff in a storage unit over the summer. I... Continue reading

Hey everyone here are some photos from the junior ring ceremony and dance! I love my ring so much. And I am so happy that I got it! Thanks for all the support! Continue reading

Well junior ring was a success! Junior ring weekend was also a success. It was really great to get my ring and be able to celebrate with my friends and my original platoon. The ceremony was so surreal, as a member of the ring committee it is wonderful to be able to watch the ceremony each year. But actually experiencing the ceremony was magical. I am going to post a photo or two to my blog as soon as I have some free time. Just a picture of my ring and my experiences this weekend. I loved getting dressed up and going to the ball because the ball was specifically meant for the juniors. I am also very proud to say that I have earned the title of a Norwich women. Many people did not receive their rings yet, but that is okay because it will mean so much more... Continue reading

This week has to be the most exciting as all Juniors, that's me, will be getting their rings on Friday. This is a super special opportunity as many of us have waited our entire Norwich career for this very day! You are only allowed to get the corps ring, if you are in the corps and meet certain criteria. It is a privilege and an honor to be allowed to wear the Norwich Ring. It represents the transition into becoming apart of the great men and women who have come before you. The ring represents the connection a Norwich alum has. On Friday I will be able to proudly say that I am a Norwich woman of honor and integrity. Our class has worked hard to get to where we are today, but that is what defines us from the rest of the population. Our strive to do better and... Continue reading

So this past weekend, and previously talked about, there was an HHC company dining in. This is a fancy dinner where the company gets together to eat and laugh and appreciate those who surround them. Headquaters is the center of attention for the corps. There are six s-sections that all have individual jobs that must happen to get the corps running. S1 is housing, s2 is security, s3 is corps event planning, s4 is supply, s5 is civilian event planning, and s6 is technology. Along with the six sections are Public Affairs, Athletic Liaisons, and Coporal Academic Mentor programs. All these individual groups come together to create one big HHC. My section is s1 and we are one of the first people to arrive on campus. We arrive the earliest so we can straighten out housing and get keys ready for the arrival of new students and returning students. We... Continue reading

Well this weekend should be somewhat fun. My company, HHC, is having a dining in. This is kinda like a fancy dinner to give out awards and eat with your sections. It is not mandatory and costs 15 dollars but I believe it will be worth it. We are suppose to be receiving a challenge coin. I think that will be super fun. It will go to the collection of other coins I have. Also, my roommate and I have made plans to walk to town and get some chinese food. I know that sounds kinda lame but it is kinda like our thing. We go every once in a while and get some food sit and talk with each other. It is good bonding and we dont really mind the walk. I have also made plans with my other friend and my roommate to go out to eat the... Continue reading

Well it is the first few days back and I am having to get back into my routine. That means waking up on time for formation, going to the gym, going to classes, and eating at the same time everyday. I am super excited about the next few weeks because the junior ring ceremony is 31 days away. I have to buy my dress soon for the dance, I may also get my nails done so when I take pictures with the ring that my nails look nice. I am not sure yet though. I am going to the MCW condo with my boyfriend. Most people get a condo with their original platoons but my platoon is not getting a condo because there are only 8 of us who are getting their rings. I am on the committee so I have to prepare invitations and letters to the guests and... Continue reading

Hey guys! So Monday of this week was my birthday. Having a birthday at school is soo wonderful. If one person knows its your birthday, that means everyone knows it is your birthday. I had a lot of people wish me a happy birthday, which is super awesome because it feels good to have other people wish me a happy birthday! This week I am doing the snapchat for the Admissions office. It is really fun. I am posting my regular routines and taking pictures with my roommate. I made sure we wore our matching shirts so we could take a good picture while we did our nightly cleanse, which is just us brushing our teeth and doing any last minute things before we go to bed. Today is the Etiquette Dinner, so I will be dressing up with my rook brother and going to eat a nice meal. This... Continue reading

Every since I was little I have wanted to be a lawyer. My dream of being lawyer has no exact cause or reason, as to why I want to be a lawyer. But I do. Here recently at school I have been concerned with that going forward with my career, like how am I going to pay for school or how will I get into school. This has been one of my most recent concerns moving forward with my life. I have come to the realization that I am going to be in a lot of debt and I am going to have to work super hard to achieve this goal. My plan so far is to take the LSAT, I bought this super nice book to help me study. Then get into law school. I think maybe if I reach out to the Alumni system of Norwich I could... Continue reading

Hi Hunter, Thanks for the comment. VIPA is the club I am president of, it stands for Violence Intervention Peer Advocacy. As a member you can be trained to be a be a confidential advocate and help victims from all types of violence get the resources they need or just be a listening ear when they need to vent. As for rooks, a rook is a freshman in the corps. As a rook you have to undergo an 18 week program where you are faced with many challenges. (please read some of my older blogs as I was a rook last year) But being a rook is a life changing experience that you undergo with some fantastic people who will become your closest friends. If you have anymore questions feel free to ask them!! Thanks, Mary Beth
