I have a journal without volume numbers (just season, year) that numbers all of its issues consecutively--it never starts over--and which paginates by issue. It doesn't make sense to me to use the year as the volume with the issue number in parentheses [2009(204)], as the issue in question is not the 204th issue of 2009. Should I treat 204 as the volume number, or ignore it altogether and go with 2009(Summer) or 2009(3), treating the season as the issue number? Or go ahead and put the issue number in parentheses, either standing alone or with a spurious volume number 1? Many thanks for any advice!
