In his book, The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People, Steven Covey wrote, "To begin with the end in mind means to start with a clear destination. It means to know where you are going so that you better understand where you are now so the steps you take are always in the right direction." I love this way of designing lessons and I love that by utilizing this method of planning lessons, students are automatically moving forward to the goal, always in the right direction. By doing this we are setting students up for success, and utilizing their time in class efficiently. It makes a lot of sense to first identify the goal, recognize ways to determine evidence in learning and then design the actual instruction. I really like that you named the student groups based on their goals and not their present levels. How did this work for you and your students?
