When you receive your monthly analytics report, it can often be daunting. What exactly do the numbers and categories mean? Need the rundown? Here is play-by-play coverage based on a very American sport: football. So grab some chips as we review the analytics report playbook. Continue reading

Summer tends to be a time when road work is rampant. In fact, it seems like every summer that I attended school, there were construction crews tearing up and replacing sections of the road throughout the summer months. When school starts, you can judge the effectiveness of each project. Is the road completed? Are the traffic patterns better? If not, it is painfully obvious. Continue reading

I love snail mail. And I’m not the only one. Growing up, I would ride my bike down the street with a plastic bag strung over the handlebars to bring home whatever envelopes filled our box that day. Checking the mailbox is still the first thing I do when I return home from work. Continue reading

This past weekend, my twin and I had brunch with one of our best friends and her fiancé. While catching up on each other’s lives, we provided a brief update on our older sister. Our friend’s fiancé promptly replied, “I don’t believe you have another sister. She’s made up.” Continue reading

One of our clients recently called me to discuss a solicitation she had received from a different “marketing” company. The representative alleged that our client’s site was performing poorly—only two visits per day. Taken aback, our client proceeded to confirm the web address this individual claimed he was viewing. It was the same website domain. Continue reading

Today is the summer solstice—the longest day of the year. Although the day is still the same 24 hours, it feels different. With more daylight comes more play, more sun and more energy. Really, time is relative. Sometimes there doesn’t seem to be enough “time” in the day. On other days, it feels as if each second drags on for an eternity. Continue reading

Have you ever played the game “telephone”? Basically, one person whispers something to the person next to him or her and then the phrase is passed along a line until it reaches the last player. He or she then reveals (to everyone’s surprise and laughter) the now nonsensical sentence to the group. This game is hilarious whether you are 7 or 47. Continue reading

It’s graduation season. Across the country, men and women are leaving the great halls of learning to begin their careers. When I graduated, I naively believed that I had learned all I needed to know, that my schooling was completed and that I would no longer be graded for my performance. You see, growing up as the daughter of an estate planning attorney and an accountant, my parents both had mandatory continuing education credits to accumulate. Part of the reason I chose my field of study was precisely so I wouldn’t have these required hours. Continue reading

Do you want your businesses marketing to be Army Strong? If so, you need to follow the military model for building soldiers and apply it to your law firm’s marketing. Get Away: New recruits are not trained in their backyards. Rather, they are sent away to a location dedicated to training. Free from distractions and attachments, these recruits are able to focus and accelerate their training. Similarly, you will need to leave your firm to gain clarity and to concentrate on your marketing strategy. Continue reading

A long time ago, in a galaxy far far away, a few nuggets of wisdom were passed along by the beloved green Jedi Master Yoda. Although you may not be destined to save the galaxy from the dark side, Yoda’s advice (in the context of estate planning) may help you save more people from their lack of proper planning. Continue reading

I like meat. I LOVE barbecued meat. If you were to cut me, I would bleed barbecue sauce. Why? In Kansas City, barbecue is what we do and, consequently, what we eat. A lot. If you were to ask me my favorite barbecue, I am not sure I could tell you. I love so many. Whether the BBQ is smoked at a restaurant like Joe’s Kansas City (formally known as Oklahoma Joe’s), B.B.’s Lawnside BBQ, Jack’s Stack or from the smoker of a family friend, you can’t go wrong. Continue reading

If you have ever been to the UK or really any European country, chances are quite good that you have seen a castle or two. While I was on vacation, I couldn’t help thinking about how the castles I saw in Scotland reminded me of marketing and my work here at IMS. These castles had different functions and varying degrees of longevity. Similarly, each of our clients has a different practice model and needs a different marketing strategy to reflect that model. Continue reading

Don’t judge a book by its cover. While this phrase persists, it is not particularly applicable in this digital day and age.No one needs to remind you that your online presence is incredibly important, and potential clients are far more critical online than they are in person. They expect business websites to meet specific standards and to have a certain digital authority. Continue reading

Since the 10th of January, I have been training for a half marathon with my family. When we started, it was difficult. I admittedly had been lazy during the holiday season. Eating seasonal foods and hibernating took its toll. My muscles and lungs were not ready to run. They had been neglected, but they would not get into race shape if I didn’t start somewhere. March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb. Okay, I’ll admit it. As a child, I only liked this phrase because my twin’s favorite animal was a lion and mine was—you guessed it—a lamb. However, as I have grown older, I have come to appreciate the truth in this statement. Continue reading

I distinctly remember the first “Four-Letter Word,” I learned—and my mother’s response to it. I was sprawled upside down over the edge of our couch one summer, looking like one of my (too) many Beanie Babies lying around the house. That is when it happened. Continue reading

First, consider this a friendly (and early) reminder to turn your clocks forward one hour on Sunday, March 13th. If you reside in a location that practices Daylight Savings Time (DST), then your timepiece must “spring forward” on March 13. Chances are you have two responses to this event. Continue reading
