Our presentation is tomorrow and we're all set, albeit a little nervous. We have finalized our presentation and report and now all that's left is to present our ideas. On the eve of our presentation, I'd like to leave a few parting words for future students in this capstone class. It may seem a little daunting going into this program, but Drew likes to scare everyone on the first day. First, take a step back and breathe. You're going to be fine as long as you work hard and keep yourself organized. One of the biggest hurdles of this class... Continue reading

We have scheduled the presentation for April 18th with Lt. Elliott and I am very confident with where we are in our project status. We have developed 95% of the report (just some formatting and final proofreading needed) and we are crafting the presentation. I think Lt. Elliott will be very pleased with our work and hopefully he will want to implement as soon as possible. It has been interesting coming up with ad concepts and messages for our campaign. In every step of the way, we've used the influence principles to guide our ideas. At first, I found it... Continue reading

This past week was dedicated to buidling the report. We have come a long way with the report and now we are ready to develop the presentation based on our report. We also are developing our ad concepts. We've enlisted the help of one of Drew's contacts: Jordan Hildebrandt. She is going to help us come up with some concepts that will hopefully look a little better than what we can come up with. On the topic of our ads, we also reworked our original ideas so they would align with the influence strategiest better. The original ideas we had... Continue reading

Now that we've collected our research and developed our insights, we are ready to start crafting the report. Yesterday, we met as a team and laid out a plan of attack for the report. I'm very confident the development of the report will go smoothly as we already know what we want to say. Additionally, we've thought of several good ideas for our communication campaign. The last part of this is putting the ideas into words and into ads that can be displayed around campus. As part of the report, we're also going to develop some concept art for our... Continue reading

As Project Review 2 approaches, we are finishing up our market research. Our survey and interviews gave us good insights and we met today to discuss potential campaign messages. The biggest challenge we face is making the message relevant to college aged males. Our research indicates that people are most attentive when they are shown a shocking visual ad. As such, I think we are going to try to move in that direction. We have some really good ideas so far, so now it will be a challenge to put them into practice and determine the feasibility of each. We... Continue reading

Finally after some hard work and help from our network, we've managed to develop some insights that will be helpful in our final presentation. We've had 72 responses to our survey and performed ~6 one on one interviews and we see some common themes among our responses. Of course, we're still trying to get some more responses, but the more responses we get, the more focused the common themes seem to get. Currently, it seems that a lot of people don't feel that the University provided education is relevant to them. Additionally, many people seem to think it would be... Continue reading

It took a while, but we finally did it. We got some participants to interview and we finalized and sent out a survey! This past Thursday, Emily, Ashley and I went to UC to do some one-on-one interviews and got some good research. It was interesting to see the different types of opinions regarding the current state of sexual assault prevention awareness on campus. Some were very opinionated and some stated they hadn't noticed anything (which we found is a fairly common theme resulting in a bigger issue). I'm much more confident in our position now and I think we'll... Continue reading

So far we've been pretty active in reaching out to students to get focus group participants, but it's been tough to get commitments. We need at least 25 students to participate, so if we don't start getting commitments we'll have to ask people on campus as they go about their day. Hopefully we'll get some more commitments by tomorrow. Once we get people to participate in our focus groups and interviews, we'll be able to get some good insights into what motivates collegiate males. Then, we can finally start analyzing and putting the insights into action and get a communication... Continue reading

We have finally figured out the direction we want to take our project in. Rather than exploring the psychological aspects of understanding sexual assault, we are going to explore what motivates collegiate males to go out of their way to educate themselves about sexual assault. I feel this will be a difficult task as I feel sexual assault education is written off by most males as an inherent understanding. I've been trying to think of what I might say if I was still in college and was being interviewed about this topic, and I'm not sure what I would have... Continue reading

This past week was a little frustrating. After coming up with a market research survey, we found out that we cannot 1) send it out to who we wanted and 2) couldn't ask some of the questions we came up with. It's frustrating knowing that we spent so much time on the survey only to find out we couldn't do it. Instead, we have switched our market research approach to focus groups. While I agree this might give us more descriptive insights, we are still not able to recover time lost. We have come up with a plan for recruiting... Continue reading

As I have progressed through the project, I've gotten more excited about the prospect of making a difference on campus. Our group received some really great ideas from my Influence Strategies classmates and I'm excited to use them in our project. We are currently developing our survey to send to out to the UC student population, and it's a little harder than I thought it would be. While it has been difficult, I feel it will be worth it to get a good understanding of the campus knowledge toward sexual consent. I'm also confident that we are on the right... Continue reading

Heading into the Capstone course, I didn't know what to expect. I knew it would be tough and give me some real world experience, but I hadn't heard much else about the course. I was excited to hear that I'd be working with the UCPD for my project, as I felt that this project could really have an effect around campus. At first, I didn't know exactly what we'd be doing, although I knew it would be about sexual assault. Going into our first meeting with Lt. Elliott, I assumed we would be creating a communications campaign for women on... Continue reading
