The Arctic Blast and the Warm Ocean
My car told me the outside temperature at Manly was 10 degrees this morning. Very thankful for the 18 degree water temp. You can read the story of today's art work on Guy's insta page temperature_guy_manly I often put a drop of liquid soap on my camera lens to stop... Continue reading

Winter most definitely here
You know it's going to be a cold one whne it's early June and a mere jumper and t shirt just don't cut it any more. Puffer jackets are out already, wetsuits too. Except for the obsessive badgeniks, and those of us blessed with subcutaneous thermal protection. The upside is... Continue reading

It was a good morning
So said Amanda with whom I almost collided at the Point. I concur even though the viz remains a stubborn 6.5/10. Note the long shadows, pants and sleeves. Winter is coming. Can you believe that on Saturday week it will be June? As an aside the Winter Solstice and the... Continue reading

Cloudy above but clear below
From a distance Guy's artwork looked like a ninja turtle , but I was wrong. The story of this piece is on his insta page temperature_guy_manly so rather than repeat what is there, have a look, give him a like and subscribe. Drinks said the swim was fabulous but then... Continue reading

I've seen showers and I've seen rain not so sure about sunny days that I thought would never end
The wall was strangely unoccupied and ready for conquest Moody and unpredictable is this week's weather and conditions theme. Today's Southerly swell gifted us a fairly flat surface but visibility was ordinary at best. Lainey saw a couple of cuttlefish closer to Shelly but the best I could manage was... Continue reading

A Day To Remember
25 April is the day we officially remember the Australian and New Zealand humans who went to war. Starting with the original ANZACs sent to Gallipoli. We can keep the memories of the OGs (I don't think that is disrespectful) and the others alive by thinking of them at any time if we wish. It g...

Opaque, blurry and green with a touch of yellowtail and.......
Those were the words used to describe the conditions today. The swell was kinder than yesterday's but was still some fun / challenge to be had heading out 7 O'Clock! Cabbage Tree Bay does not disappoint
Today's temperature artwork has an interesting back story even if like me you are not a cricket tragic. Read Guy's insta post @temperature_guy_manly for more details, and give him a like and a follow if you haven't already. My best intentions of an early arrival to catch the sunrise did... The not-so-big chill
Yesterday I already knew we were in for a temperature drop. Cats are a great barometer and my 15 year old ginger ninja was going nuts and was very keen to go out for an evening run-around. Sadly for him and for me he had to settle for tearing through... Continue reading

The good news and the bad news
The good news - the water is warm They say bad news comes in threes. The beach is closed, big jellies are still about as are the blue meanies. JOTW Some brave souls braved the pain - let me state that went these folks went in before the Beach Closed... Continue reading

Not so lousy
It's Thursday and I forgot I was blogging. While I took some nice video footage (which will be on the B&B FB page) I didn't take any photos. Fortunately Edwina did. A beautiful Shovelnose ray. Here she is again before the main event (you don't want to know but lets... Continue reading

The Machine Men take Manhattan
Here I go out to sea again. The sunshine fills my hair Rusty's Pitch Report: The mighty Machine Men, take a sip of their orange juice?, before celebrating the Summer Solstice with a liberating, nude swim to Shelly. The 'dismount', a coordinated maneuver where budgies are removed and hoisted ...
Wet, cool and clear
Light winds and a moderate southerly swell with a shortish period brings relative water clarity which makes swimmers, divers, snorkellers, photographers and beginner surfers happy. Lots to see under water but first here's some swimmers coming in as I was going out (late again but wha hey I'm semi retired)... Continue reading

Reasons To Be Cheerful
It's a beautiful day and the water is warming up, what's not to like? Happy faces all around and quite a few newbies, also happy. And dogs. Rainer is especially cheerful today, even more so that usual because he has notched up 3000 kilometres of swimming across the Bay. This... Continue reading

Thanks Elizabeth
Big rough and blue
This is a dry blog so I'll take the word of all the swimmers I spoke to that there are no blueys in the water and the wind and swell pushed them all onto the shore. There were a few on the tide line as well as the usual rubbish we get with rain and a NE swell. Lainey - not drowning, waving ...
