There are lot many things you will learn throughout your capstone. It is important that you acknowledge what you learn and apply it during the process. The best advice I would like to give all the future capstoners is that give your best to the project right from the beginning and leave no work till the end. Time is your enemy and if you do not focus on time management, your project might take much more time to complete then you expect. Revise the ‘Big Picture’ concepts at the beginning itself. Share your experiences through blogs as it counts for... Continue reading

For people it might have been a capstone experience but for me it was a fantastic journey. A journey which I feel had just started and never should have ended. It feels like it was just yesterday that I began working with Nick and Jenny on our project. But all good things come to an end and so has this journey. I learnt so much during this entire process especially from Nick and Jenny that I believe I would not have learnt had I not been a part of this capstone. Time management, professional communication, crisis handling, to name a... Continue reading

As the weeks passed by, we kept working on our project with great enthusiasm. Calls, emails, texts, meetings was a daily routine. Now, as we are nearing the end of this project, all this seems to lessen giving us a feeling that this amazing project is about to get over. We had a presentation run through last week with Drew where in each team received great comments and suggestions for improving their presentation and so did we. Since then we have been working on improving the presentation and completing the remaining parts of the project. One very important thing which... Continue reading

This week was nothing like we expected it to be. We were hoping to get done with our qualitative research this week with completion of all of our phone interviews but obviously that wasn’t the case. Things don’t always go in the direction you want them to in real world and now I have got used to this fact. Moreover I have learnt to acknowledge this fact and take it into consideration while planning any of my work strategy. This is what happens with you in capstone. It makes you ready to be aware of the real world problems that... Continue reading

This week was exciting as we got one step closer to our goal. We are in the process of conducting qualitative research for our project and we are going solid with it. My major role was to schedule the phone interviews with all those people who agreed to help us with the project keeping in mind their time availabilities, our time availabilities and differences in the time zones. This is where my experience from my part time job at the University of Cincinnati helped me a lot. Your experiences from your previous work & education play a major role in... Continue reading

Finally we are all set to start the qualitative research for our client. We have a precise questionnaire ready, we know the targets for our research and we are ready to roll. This seems exciting as it will be a whole new learning experience how different people would respond to our questions (if and when they do) in a different manner. I am looking forward to it as I would be using the technique of ‘Laddering interview’ which I learnt in one of my marketing classes, for our survey. This time I would be able to explore it a little... Continue reading

All our problems were set to ease after the meeting with Drew. We now know how to do what we have to do. After the meeting I realized how a theoretical concept works practically. It reminded me of one of our Marketing Strategy classes in which Drew had mentioned to take a step back when in trouble and think about the goal. It’s important that all the components of the Big Picture are in alignment at every step of the process ultimately resulting into achievement of the set objective. This was the first learning experience for me how to troubleshoot... Continue reading

After weeks, we all met with Drew to learn a very useful technique-AVM. While using that technique for our client, we realized how we had missed/not thought of certain crucial aspects about our client which we now know thankfully. This brought me to think how education and knowledge about different concepts could improve the quality of day to day business decisions. We also had a chance this week to interact with the director of CEC at UC. The guidance we received from him was really helpful. We got just what we wanted to move ahead in our project. We were... It’s been 5 weeks already and we seem to be working with the pace required. This week began with a team meeting and discussion of the work done so far. All three of us were amazed at the time it took us to complete the research which we thought would be done earlier. ‘Never assume the work will proceed at the pace you think’. Lesson learnt! We therefore decided not to make assumptions henceforth and factually plan the remaining work. Keeping this in mind, we set a timeline for ourselves and mentioned it in the charter as well for the... It was a crazy week, to begin with. We established what the client wants and based on it we decided to research aggressively leaving no stone unturned in our efforts to achieve the set objective. We had to research and gather relevant details from literally each and every university in U.S.A for our project. One can imagine the numbers!!! Now that we knew what needs to be done, we decided how it needs to be done. While discussing with the team how we were going to carry out this huge task, we were all aware that the work is going... After a long weekend, we picked up from where we had left. We waited for our client’s response to a very long email which we had sent them with list full of questions. We were skeptical about its length but did not want to move on with assumptions and hence thought it was the best thing to do. Tony and Emily’s detailed response helped us solve all the doubts. This gave us exactly what we needed- A DIRECTION. We now know where to take the boat sailing. Patience paid off. Fortunately, our client is very specific as to what they... Continue reading

This week, I and my team met our client for the first time and everything went well for the most part as we thought which boosted our confidence. We reached The Brandery much before time and therefore utilized the valuable time knowing each other for better understanding and working. We were received by Emily who showed us around the office. The environment was great to work in. People were gearing up for an event which was to take place that evening there. It was also the reason for our concise yet a very productive meeting. With the introductions began our... Continue reading

With the beginning of summer semester, started something I was very excited about -the MS Marketing Capstone with Prof.Boyd. It is finally time to showcase practically the skills and knowledge we have acquired through this program and put ourselves at a consultant’s place for giving the best possible solutions to our clients in order to solve their marketing related issues. It’s time to put the Big Picture to reality and solve real problems of a real case while encountering real world challenges. When Drew first announced that I would be working with Nick and Jenny for ‘The Brandery’, I was... Continue reading
