This past week we hit a little bump in the road. When we emailed to confirm our final presentation time, our contact said that they never confirmed that they could do that time and that we needed to change it. I thought this was strange as they were the ones to suggest the time to us in the first place, so I was confused. None the less we figured out a time that works for us and finally set it in stone. However, the CMO can not make it to our presentation, so it will only be Michael who will... Continue reading

This week we decided to break up our deliverables and have one person working on compiling the paper, one finishing up the WOW factor research and I am creating the powerpoint deck. It's a lot suffer than I though to create a great powerpoint deck for Capstone. We have so much information and research that we have discovered, it feels impossible to fit it all into a 1 hour presentation. It is hard to decide what information is necessary and what can be included in the appendix or just in the paper. I am a little anxious to see that... Continue reading

This week we had meetings with both Drew and Rockfish and they were both very helpful. Drew helped us to think of a wow factor to help Dave, the CMO to be impressed with our information when we present to him. When we met with Rockfish, they were impressed with all the hard work we had done so far and only requested to add one more thing. I was relieved to know that they are finally on the same page with us and are happy with our work. With that being said, we found out that one of our main... Continue reading

This past week, as a group, we felt as if we were doing nonsense work that our company would already know about, but after a great meeting with Drew, we felt a lot better about the work we are doing. We are doing a lot of research about marketing Tech Stacks and how we can help improve the integration of Hubspot in Rockfish. Although we are not implementing anything that we have already learned in grad school, we are learning a lot about marketing in the real world. I had never really researched what a marketing tech stack was before... Continue reading

I feel like as a group we are finally on the right track with our project. We have analyzed Rockfish's current tech stack and have thoroughly researched HubSpot, which is the Marketing automation platform that they are going to be using in the near future. I am a little confused as to what we are going to do next, because our company is still quite vague as to their expectations. They also have changed their minds several times, so we have learned to not get ahead of ourselves and to take it one step at a time. This way we... Continue reading

We met with our group again last week and they decided to change our project on us yet again. It has been frustrating to us as a group, because we have done a lot of work on each of the topics they have said they wanted in the past, and here we are at week six and we are starting from square one again. I thought the point of the capstone class was to apply all the things we have learned in school to a real world project, however, what our client wants is something I have never learned about... This week we met with our company Rockfish for the second time and came with our Big Picture Analysis and a Competitive Matrix completed. They really liked all the work we had done so far, but they told us that they wanted us to go down a different track. We have already redone our Charter twice and now we have to start over and redo it again. It is a little frustrating because we keep thinking that we have clarified what Rockfish wanted and then wrote the Charter, but apparently we were wrong. I think that we are on the... This past week I feel was really productive for our group. We finally got a good grasp of what Rockfish is looking from us and edited our Charter to reflect that. Instead of doing the Markets Insights deliverables we are now going to complete the Competitive Differentiation engagement. Its a good thing that they are quite similar, so we didn't have to change much. We really only had to add a few program modules. Not only did we begin to fully understand what our company wanted, but we also completed their Big Picture Analysis. Now we know where they stand... Continue reading

This week we finished our charter and need to just have it signed by everyone. We are also getting started on our first deliverable, the Competitive Matrix. As a group we decided to split up the research, and we each took a different competitor to look up. Mine was R/GA, which is a lot bigger and more global then our company Rockfish. It was interesting to see how the two companies offer a lot of the same deliverables, however, they couldn't be more different culturally. Rockfish is more laid-back atmosphere and young, while R/GA has been around a lot longer... Continue reading

I hadn't heard of Rockfish before being assigned to them for the Capstone project. I remember thinking that they must be a small firm, because I'd never heard of them. After doing some research, I learned that they are not only a well known firm, but they have offices located all over the US. They are mainly a business to business company, so that is probably why I'd never heard of the Rockfish brand before this project. Working along side the marking department for a marketing firm will be very interesting this semester. I look forward to working on a... Continue reading

I know I am a little late to the game, but I was studying abroad in China for the last two weeks! I am both excited and nervous to work on this project. I feel as if I am being thrown into the project without any direction, because I had to miss the first class session. I meet with my group tomorrow, along with our company representatives from Rockfish. I am looking forward to meeting everyone, and getting a better understanding of what is going on. I feel that this class is going to challenge me this semester as well... Continue reading
