Spring Break was a wonderful time to dedicate to push through elements of the project that have been slow to come. This week I have worked very hard to finalize the details and plan of action for the upcoming qualitative studies. Coordinating this plan was a test to my patience, organization, and project management skills. Detail after detail needed approval, re-visiting, re-working, and/or communication between the client, the agency, the Marketing department at Lindner College of Business, and my partner. In the end, we have a finalized budget, screener, recruiting plan that is in process, and a preliminary plan for... Continue reading

This week I made two visits to none other than a local distributor for Juzo! We were hoping to gain some further insights into their relationship with suppliers and the barriers to new product introduction. The first time that I dropped in was a very short trip because I frankly did not know what to expect once I walked through the doors. I was surprised because it was in an office building and the set-up mirrored a doctor’s office. Walking in I was prompted to sign in at a desk window where others were waiting in the lobby to be... Professor Boyd called it. Every time I look at the number “3” on my calendar indicating that it is now March, my stomach drops a little bit. Could graduation really be next month?! Right now I don’t feel panicked, however it is just the pressure challenging me to get my ducks in a row and start tying some knots together on this project. I think that we have more content than we realize, however we have a lot of open tasks that I would like to start checking off. The big missing piece is once again, the qualitative. Zoltan is... This past week our group had a slight set back – wouldn’t be a project without challenges though, right?! Professor Boyd encouraged the use of the Capstone Innovation tool for our particular project, as a piece that would really take some of our research and breathe some life into it, as well as tie directly into strategy. Our action plan was to prepare the background write-up about Juzo, the current industry, and the innovation goals for the project and use some of the students in the Innovation class as a resource to apply the methodologies. As things typically do not... Continue reading

More research this week has left me feeling optimistic for the segment growth of compression within the wearable industry. It feels even better to know that Juzo could be on the front end of this trend. While there are definite restraints for compression in the market, the drivers are far outweighing, and forecasted to continue to do so. However, Juzo must be careful to align with this growth as a lot of it is being driven by new companies emerging within other segments that are being advertised directly to consumers. Although I understand the reasoning for Juzo and many competitors... Continue reading

The end of this week has left me in high spirits. I realize that it’s all part of the project; the ups, the inevitable downs, and the in-betweens … but it sure does feel good after a week where the wheels are really turning. A call with our client earlier this week was a great confirmation of alignment and it is very motivating to hear that he really is genuinely enjoying this project. Not every client is enthusiastic, and for that I am grateful. Because Juzo has played a traditionally consistent role within the industry, Tom likes to dream about... Continue reading

This week one of the main focuses has been gearing up on research. We are still in the planning stages of primary (and taking steps to get this rolling), however loading up on the secondary. The task of organizing our research has become a little overwhelming as there is a TON of information to manage. However, I am categorizing in abundance and filling in holes. A fear of mine is that we will be in the place to consider ourselves industry experts in a short period of time, especially since we are working with a company with such long &... Continue reading

The initial feelings of confidence slowed down a bit earlier this past week, as Zoltan and I spun our wheels for a bit on an action plan. This is typically my strong point as a project management-minded person, however there just seemed to be so many loose ends! It can feel like a downer when you jump into a project full of ideas and motivation and then you have to stop and carefully draw out a plan. But the planning process is always so critical, and I have to remind myself that it usually takes a surprisingly long time. The... Continue reading

The first week of our Capstone project was kicked off nicely between my partner and I, along with our client: Tom Musone, Director of Marketing for JUZO USA. Last week, Zoltan and I met one evening to touch bases and organize a plan for the initial client kick-off call. The conference call itself was professional, yet friendly and conversational. Setting the stage for the call from the beginning included a quick overview of our backgrounds, a time cap, and the ‘okay’ from Tom to jump in with questions at any point. This proved as a great flow, providing flexibility to... Continue reading
