"The race that is set before us on this earth is an endurance race filled with obstacles. The obstacles in this race are the challenges we wake up to each morning. We are here on earth to run the race, to exercise our moral agency, and to choose between right and wrong. In order to honorably and successfully finish the race and return to our Heavenly Father, we will need to pay the price of dedication, perseverance, and self-discipline. We need to get into spiritual shape. We need to develop spiritual stamina. We need strong testimonies that will lead to true conversion, and as a result we will find within ourselves the inner peace and strength needed to endure whatever challenges we may face." http://bit.ly/2tm55K3... Have you ever heard of someone who walked into a tree or fell into a fountain while on their phone either texting or browsing a social media site? Or worse stepped into the street? According to the latest research, people in the U.S. check their Facebook, Twitter and other social media accounts an incredible 17 times a day which is a least once every waking hour. For some, it is much more. That's a least a third of our day spent on our phone! Do you, as I do, find your schedule and to-do list constantly growing and the amount of time needed to accomplish everything shrinking? Elder Ardern, in his talk, "A Time to Prepare" from October 2011 General Conference invites us to identify... Continue reading

Why is it when we think of parenthood, we immediately think of motherhood? Yes, mothers are very important to the happiness of a family but a righteous father's influence is every bit as important. Elder Christofferson in a talk from April 2016 Conference states, "As a Church, we believe in fathers. We believe in “the ideal of the man who puts his family first. We believe that far from being superfluous, fathers are unique and irreplaceable. If by his example as well as his words a father can demonstrate what fidelity to God looks like in day-to-day living, that father will have given his children the key to peace in this life and eternal life in the world to come." When President Uchtdorf was a young child, he learned that his mother was a great example of how hope and faith can overcome fear. Continue reading

Before the advent of GPS, I was leaving the Oakland airport late at night and found myself completely lost. Wandering through dark streets not knowing where to stop for help was scary. Eventually I found a very well-lit gas station, rolled my window down enough to ask where the freeway entrance was and got the help I needed. Believe me being lost in Oakland, California at night is enough to make anyone recognize the importance of asking for directions. As someone who is directionally challenged, I should have known better. Elder Larry R. Lawrence in his talk “What lack I yet” from the October 2015 General Conference describes our life as a journey and encourages us to ask the Lord for directions along the way.... Continue reading

Do you as I often do find your life or the world you live in spinning out of control? As human beings, we can't always be in control of everything in our lives. We will unfortunately experience tough times, difficult challenges and even failure. During this time hope can seem like a vague word with little or no relevance in our lives. How do we find hope when everything seems hopeless? In this wonderful talk given in the October 2008 General Conference, President Uchtdorf tells us, "No matter how bleak the chapter of our lives may look today, because of the life and sacrifice of Jesus Christ, we may hope and be assured that the ending of the book of our lives will exceed our... " We can, if we live worthy of it, have the blessing of the Spirit to be with us, not only now and then but always. The companionship of the Holy Ghost makes what is good more attractive and temptation less compelling. That alone should be enough to make us determined to qualify for the Spirit to be with us always. Just as the Holy Ghost strengthens us against evil, He also gives us the power to discern truth from falsehood. The truth that matters most is verified only by revelation from God. Our human reason and the use of our physical senses will not be enough. We live in a time when even the wisest will be hard-pressed to distinguish truth from clever deception.... Continue reading

The Latter-Day Saints' (LDS) Conference Center is considered the largest theater auditorium in the world, with a total of 21,200 seats. Much like any other theater, time and effort goes into everything to make it look its best and run without error. 105 full time and on call employees work hard before, during, and after to make conference a spiritual experience for the millions of viewers around the world. Here are some fascinating details of the behind the scenes efforts required to produce General Conference: General Conference is known, among many other things, for it's magnificent flowers. In order to produce these beautiful arrangements, employees start to draw up plans for the flowers two months in advance. Two weeks before conference, workers move 10,000 pound... Continue reading
