It couldn't have looked more appealing after reading last nights forecast for big waves and hearing a wild wind at home. How lucky are we I thought, like a lake with sun shining. Not a bump to be seen. Then I saw John and that temperature, and my heart sunk... Continue reading

Contributions were made from James Frawley and Elaine de Jager, thanks for the photos peeps. Today's swim was eventful to say the least. Surf was up and the crowds were growing. The choice was there for people to enter via the surf at manly, halfway at high tide with a... Continue reading

Today I swam early and got a glimpse of what the club area looks like before the crowds arrive. Same with the bay, not a bad experience. I bet this is what it was like in the early days of the Bold and Beautiful. Sunrise walk to Manly Beach. Lots... Continue reading

One of my patients told me yesterday the weather was going to change on the weekend. He called it the last hoorah from the winter season. Let's hope so, it was greyer and colder and a bit windier when I woke up to head down to Manly. If that's what... Continue reading

It was a cold morning today but the water temp was recorded as 17.9 which is a pleasant increase from yesterday. Anything to entice me to undress and swim in winter, I could have slept in today but glad I pushed past the snooze button and turned up. Super sunrise... Continue reading

Conditions were perfect today with a calm beach and bay, mildy cold temperature outside and in the water, and a lovely sunny day waiting for us as we finished our swim. A handful even braved doubles and triples or a boulderdash Mr Maher! I caught these early birds running out... Continue reading

There was lots of chatter in the build up to the soltice swim today. People were asking on social media, should I or shouldn't I? How cold is it? Will people see me? What if there's surf? On and on it went. In the end it wasn't as difficult as... Continue reading

Support boat for swim to curly?
Anne taught me this trick- the typepad likes photos to be wide not tall. So you have to delete it, then edit the photo so it’s shape is more panoramic maybe? Then add again, ask one of us if it fails . Get to Shelly as late as you like 👍🥰

Today as I walked from North Steyne to South Steyne, I caught sight of some early swimmers heading towards Queenscliff. I can't tell you how beautiful it was, the sea was calm apart from a small wave here and there. And behind the waves, were initially two swimmers together, arm... Continue reading

Morning all! Another dark sky greeted us at Manly today, with the clouds threatening rain, but we were spared the gloomy weather and had another glorious swim despite the poor visibility. Jenny led the yoga class as the regular teacher wasn't around. She's studying to be a yoga teacher and... Continue reading

Today has become one of those schizophrenic weather days where's it's totally unpredictable what's happening from hour to hour. Right now the sun is shining but as I arrived at the swim at 6.30am, there were no runners along the promenade to avoid, lots of waves crashing on the sand... Continue reading
