Jane, Very glad your surgery went well, the surgeries are over and you are not relegated to hours of laying face down. Wishing you the best results. Try not to lose the little green wrist band. Regarding a DNA test: I’ve never had one, but pretty certain it would show that I am 1/2 something and 1/2 something else.

In keeping with the Shakespeare banter and the PowerlineBlog using it as a verb, I’ll admit in my participation in various Zoom meetings, I have never, during such meetings, contemplated the famous bard’s proposition: Toobin or not Toobin, that is the question!

From Tom R.:”File this under unforeseen impacts from COVID 19 social distancing requirements. Today in Tuscaloosa the cover charge to get into bars for the Bama/Georgia game is $100-$150 dollars. It’s usually no more than $20 on game days.” Nah, Someone’s gotta cover the expensive costs of those Rona tests to get Coach Saban on the field. Didn’t he take like 50 of them? I echo bubarooni’s 4:52 remarks: “It seems like a lot of personal things have happened with peeps on this blog the last two weeks. Best wishes to you all especially MM!” I’ve been contemplating getting the lamb’s blood for the lintel. I don’t know who started that on that night way back when, but it was priceless. MM, I for now will refer to this place as JOMmm or jomMM as the guitar man might phrase. This place is truly a newsroom, a chat room, a learning room, and an entertainment room. I almost feel should pay for admission. Nah, not really. Glad I found it as you folks really make it a joy to lurk.

Lyle, HA! I’m honored, I’ll await to receive my major award at the JOM Trump victory party. Perhaps we can all wear our virus masks then use them to toast our victory marshmallows.

Lyle, September 30 10am EDT - Following a debate cut short the night before due to a coughing fit, the Biden Campaign announces a permanent lid on Joe in the leading role due to health reasons. Then taking the stage, Dr. Jill Biden announces that in recognition of the precedent set by the Biden’s good friends Senator Mel and his wife Senator Jean Carnahan, Dr. Jill will continue her husband’s campaign as the democrat candidate for president. As most ballots were prepared listing only J. Biden as the candidate, the campaign anticipates no voter casting confusion. ZZ Top’s hit “Legs” becomes the official campaign theme song. Joe, though technically not dead, becomes the 200,000,001st person not to have died due to the virus from China.

If passing through little Sargent, Nebraska, stop in at Mr Rudy’s Restaurant & Drinkery and enjoy your 1/2 price first drink: To our customers Due to disrespect shown towards our great country and the men and women that have sacrificed so much to defend and protect it, this establishment will no longer offer viewing of any NFL, NBA, MLB, NASCAR, or any related broadcasts. Happy birthday to the real Lovely Miss M! Things I wouldn’t know without the assistance of JOM and curiosity: Affect and Effect - two commonly confused homophones. Boy, if that ain’t going to add to befuddlement.

https://jordanschachtel.substack.com/p/tales-from-americas-covid-college I love this university but if I knew when I was in high school that I'd be staying in my room all day, I would've never gone to any college.” “This is a horrible way to go to college. [Daughter] was in tears last night about the prospect of the mandatory immediate quarantine while waiting for the test, as she has heard from others that it was taking 27+ hours to get the tests back on the slow days. She is worried that she might be an asymptomatic case. What we are doing to this generation of kids is awful ... common sense has been missing from this debate for months.” Maybe if the classroom buildings on campuses across America some people would wake up. Iggy @ 1:13, That is valid, fair point. Thanks. Rse, Condolences on the passing of your father. From my hometown newspaper (remember when news was a little more light hearted): “Sixty Years Ago August 19, 1960 - Larry Hadenfeldt, 8-year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Bob Hadenfeldt, received a bad cut on his leg when he stepped over a barbed wire fence.” I post only because he is a first cousin, and past small town news beats current big town news, hands down.

To quote Old Lurker in GUS fashion: lUNACY! From KC Deplorable’s FB site: August 10th here in Kansas 31,145 Kansans have tested positive for Covid, which is 1.0695% of Kansans, and that has resulted in 380 Covid deaths statewide, which is 0.01305% of the Kansas population of 2,912,000 Kansans. The actual COVID death rate in Kansas is 13/1000th of 1 percent, compared to the average death rate from the annual winter flu viruses of 0.1% : 1/10th of 1 percent, which is 76 times higher death rate than from the Covid virus. As of August 10th, the current Covid survival rate for Kansans is 100% minus 0.01305% death rate = a survival rate of 99.998695%. The survival rate would be even higher if our public health policy had been focused upon quarantining the most vulnerable in our nursing homes, where more than 80% of the 380 Kansas Covid deaths have actually occurred, with the average age of the Kansas patients dying from COVID having been age 81, instead of the absurd, unprecedented Kabuki dance of QUARANTINING THE HEALTHY, with the catastrophic loss of over 41 million jobs; a loss of more than $8 trillion dollars to our economy and the loss of over 300,000 jobs in Kansas and an estimated death rate directly caused by the shutdown, from suicides, drug overdoses and delayed access to much needed non-Covid medical care, that will far exceed the total deaths from the Covid Wuhan virus. And mind you, this was two weeks ago!

I couldn’t read Captain’s 6:12 story in full about the female cop saving the wheelchair guy. Therefore I was unable to tell if the cop took the precaution to don a mask. If not, how dare she put that poor guy’s life in danger? Wasn’t it just a couple of weeks ago that this thing was to the point of no longer being a defined pandemic? What happened?

Don’t worry about me, I only need 1/2 the allotted time. Do you need my home address to mail my swag bag? All this winning makes feel like Charlie Sheen. GBR, straight to the Big 12.

Catsmeat @ 9:47, Yes, born and raised a Husker. In fact grew up ~ 6 miles directly west of where Scott first made a name for himself in high school. We played Wood River in high school and in the same conference at that time. Very glad Scott came around many years following my time. Glad to hear his words in the presser yesterday, half thought his words, and various other coaches’ & players’ words might make a difference. Been to many a game in Memorial Stadium. I remember reading on JOM that you are a professor at UNL. Great school and a great city. Wife and I both have immediate family there. GBR!

Jane, It is the result of a mostly detached retina. Still have the remnants of a gas bubble from surgery ~ 9 weeks ago. I'm blessed to say, we are not twins, no pirate patch. I sincerely wish you the best outcome. Your ordeal really scared the crap out of me and I truly have been blessed.

Rude indeed, Jane. My I-DR says my green band means no operating, er. riding in a pressurized chamber leaving the ground or sleeping on my back. Funny, my wife still wishes to sleep with me on my back. Big 10 Front: Husker HC, Scott Frost: "Our University is committed to playing no matter what, no matter what that looks. We want to play no matter who it is or where it is." Aussie football, rugby, here come the Huskers. GBR!

Soylent, Good to see another Husker on JOM. As I read only two schools were no votes for cancelling the season: Iowa and Nebraska. Perhaps a 3 team conference is in order: Hawkeyes, Huskers and the Fighting Jack Rabbits of SD State. The TV exposure will be a boon for recruiting. Come to Nebraska, we are not a bunch of wussies. In other news, my insurance man tells my wife the post office delivered to his address a mail-in ballot for his mother, who has been deceased for 21 years. Jane, I wish you the very best success with your eye. I assume you are still sporting your little green wrist band.
