Five things to keep in mind when starting your Capstone: 1) Make the most of your time, especially the time you and your partner can dedicate 100% of your energy and focus to the project together. The semester will go by quickly, but your client will most likely throw you a curve ball or two during the semester as well. There is no set curriculum, no perfect way to plan everything out. Therefore, time utilization is key. 2) With that being said, you must be flexible during the course of the project. Things are likely to evolve and take new... Continue reading

This past week we had our 2nd project review with Drew regarding our project. I feel this went well as we did a brief overview of all the information we have gathered thus far. Drew asked that we allow him to speak with our sponsor about any other key materials that were needed for her to proceed with the future of her company. Other than that, I think Joey and I are very close to being ready from an information standpoint. I have spent a lot of time reflecting on this throughout the semester, but it was no more apparent... This past week we began to develop our formal presentation/recommendations for our client. I think unpacking some of the information and focusing on a Big Picture analysis has been really helpful in regards to communicating ideas in a clear way. We had a ton of qualitative research to unpack and sift through which can sometimes come off in a "ramble" if not presented in a clear, logical manner. The Big Picture analysis has definitely helped us work through this and should ultimately help our client understand our point of view as well. I think the only thing we have really... I was able to spend this past week looking into a partner for our client. I had a great lead from some of the qualitative research we did earlier this summer and followed up on it after confirming interest with our client last week. The research and communication that followed could not have gone better. The company I gathered research on fits the mold perfectly for what our client should be looking for moving forward. It was so funny after the call comparing notes between a phone call Joey and I had with our client the week before and the... Continue reading

This week Joey and I had a follow-up call with our client to share our findings over the last month and give a clear direction to her on where we're headed from here. The call lasted a couple hours and was very thorough from a Q&A standpoint, I always feel very invigorated and energized after speaking with her. I feel that both of us have a couple tasks to complete in order for us to give clear recommendations to her in a few weeks. I am really excited about a phone call I have scheduled for this week. I hope... Continue reading

Getting even closer to turning the page of the calendar to the daunting month of July, ha. After speaking with the COO late last week, I feel very comfortable with the insights we have gathered for the company thus far. She seemed very pleased with what we had discovered and reiterated a few times how pleased she was that we were doing quality work for them. In addition, we discussed her day to day role with the company and how she became involved with our client in the first place. We had been hoping for a conversation with her for... Continue reading

I believe at the end of the project, we will look back at this week as being one of the most beneficial to our project. We have finished the qualitative side of our research and are beginning to form the big picture outlook for our client. We have also obtained some information that will help us make recommendations on materials our client needs prepared in order to break into their desired market. I believe a thorough review of this information will help form the foundation of our consulting recommendations to our client at the end of next month. We also... Continue reading

Another good week of Capstone work. We have finished our qualitative research interviews for our client and have started to look ahead to the quantitative research. The interviews went pretty well as a whole, we were able to get in touch with many program directors who provided a plethora of knowledge regarding our client's healthcare industry. While we ran into many more places who were not as willing to help, it was clear there are definitely people out there willing to help and keep an eye/ear out for new technologies at all times. These, ultimately, are the centers that we... Continue reading

This week our Capstone project made more progress as Joey and I have started to collect interviews from firms we are researching. We have made a few minor adjustments as a result of these interviews, but they are going much smoother than we initially anticipated. Hopefully as we continue this work, we will become more comfortable and skilled in conducting these interviews and may begin to obtain more in-depth knowledge from these professionals. I am very pleased we've received immediate feedback from our calls and hope that we'll be able to develop some useful information for our client to use... Continue reading

This week Joey and I focused on getting our project Charter approved. We are happy to have some direction from our client and receiving her approval for milestones and a timeline was key. At this point, we are working towards getting approval on the qualitative research questions we hope to ask. In addition, we have spent ample time creating a call list to get started on as soon as we get feedback and approval for our questions. Until we can make some headway on contacting firms on our call list, it is difficult to feel one way or the other... Continue reading

The second week of our capstone project was productive. At this point, we have laid the foundation for the main aspects of our project and are simply waiting on approval from our client. At this point, I'm eager to get started so we can begin to understand more about the issues and opportunities ahead for our client. I'm also interested in what challenges we may have going forward and am curious to what our proposed solutions might be in order to deliver quality work. I believe that honest communication and creativity will be essential to the next few weeks of... Continue reading

We got started on our Capstone last Wednesday with BioRegentech, a medical device/procedure start-up in California. I know Joey and I are both excited to help the company with everything they're looking for over the next few months. Our first meeting was not as smooth as we had hoped, trying to communicate time zone differences and compensate for internet outages from earthquakes is something we're not used to dealing with in Ohio, haha. However, I felt like we got a lot of good information and have a clear direction on where to start. Our first meeting made me feel very... Continue reading
