I got Drew's email after I had already posted my final blog post, so here is my advice to future Capstone students: Use all the time given to you during this course because you'll need every second! Be passionate about your project because it is so much better to work on a project all semester that you actually care about. DO NOT OVERTHINK THINGS!! (or make things more complicated than they need to be) It is so important to start things off on a good foot with your client because the project will go so much smoother if you have... This is the final blog post... YAY! I am feeling very excited and accomplished because I graduate this coming Friday (less than a week away). Our presentation is done, and we had our final WebEx meeting with Drew. He was very impressed with our project and may even attend our presentation tomorrow. It was great to get that affirmation. I think our project really shows the amount of hard work that we have put in. Our report is really coming along as well, which makes me relieved. I learned so much more from Capstone than I ever imagined I would... Continue reading

The fact that our client presentation is only about a week away is really stressing me out! Our presentation is basically done, we just need to do some formatting, organizing, and practicing. I want to feel over prepared when I go to meet my client on July 30. I have to keep reminding myself to “not overthink this project”. Advice that Drew has given us time and time again this semester. I graduate for good in a little less than 2 weeks, which is overwhelming, and I have so much to do for my classes before then. Unfortunately, I have... Continue reading

It is crazy for me to think that my last semester of school is coming to an end. Our project is coming together well and right now we are mainly working on our presentation. We have class next Monday and may have to present then (for practice/critique). Plus, our client presentation is in just 15 days… I am definitely getting anxious at this point in the capstone project. We have most of our work done, but I have found it a bit difficult to condense everything we have found into the PowerPoint and to identify what is more important/relevant. However,... Last week we made some really great progress analyzing our marketing research. We also did some work on our final presentation. Madeline and I have our second project review tomorrow. This week we plan to continue working on our final presentation and complete our core competency analysis. I would like to complete at least half of our final presentation if possible, even if it is only a draft. We have finished all of our marketing research, which consists of interviews and a survey. If we get that all accomplished I would like to possibly get a jump start on our... Continue reading

We are really starting to approach the end of this course now that it is July. Graduation is basically a month away. It is crazy how time flies! I am happy to report that our project is coming together, and we are on track with our timeline in the charter. This week we will review the results of our completed interviews, close out our survey, and really start adding to our final presentation. We have laid out the format of the presentation but would like to add some content to it before our second project review with Professor Boyd on... Continue reading

The class is flying by! I have a lot more time to commit to my capstone project now that the first half of the semester is over. However, I am starting my new job this Wednesday, but I will only be part-time until I graduate in August. This past week we had our second meeting with our client and we went over the charter with her, got it signed, and started talking to her about the final presentation. It was great to see her in-person again and get her feedback on how the project is going. We also discussed changes... Continue reading

Last week we accomplished everything we planned to, which included the first project review, drafted interview questions, and survey draft. The professor has reviewed our interview questions and given us some great feedback. I am really glad that we are working more closely now with Drew because he has been extremely helpful, and it is nice to know that we are on the right track. We finally heard back from our client and will possibly have a meeting with her this coming week about the charter, probably on Thursday. After the meeting we will most likely make a few adjustments... Continue reading

It was really great having the first in-class session last week. I really liked learning the Drill Bit Technique. Madeline and I still need to discuss if we want to do that exercise with our client at our next meeting. The in-class exercise was certainly eye opening and made us realize what is important for our client, even though it may not be what the client thinks is most important. I am looking forward to our next class because it was really helpful for me. I think that we should be communicating more with the professor because like he said,... Continue reading

Working on the charter, seeing the deliverables, and timeline really brought the whole project into perspective for me. I am nervous for the amount of work we have to complete by the end of the course, but having concrete deadlines works better for me, so I know what I need to specifically accomplish each week. This week we are going to take the charter to our client and make any necessary changes, get it approved, and signed. This will be our second official client meeting and will either take place in-person or on skype. I am very excited for our... Continue reading

As we continue to make the charter I am getting a little more nervous for our project because it is very eye opening to see the list of deliverables and timeline. Our client has been amazing so far. I read in other posts that some students are having issues meeting with their client or have had to switch clients. I am so grateful that Terry has been so good to us and helpful. We have been emailing Terry quite often to keep her updated and to ask questions. She was on vacation last week, so we let her enjoy her... Continue reading

Last Monday, Madeline and I went to Terry’s office in Sharonville. Her bridal business, Renee Grace, was very impressive. She was so kind and welcoming. We got to tour the office and meet her employees that are based in Cincinnati, her husband, and daughter. Their family owns several businesses. I loved how entrepreneurial they all were. She even showed us some of her designs that she is working on and they were stunning. The goal of our initial meeting was to get to know one another and find out what expectations our client has. We will meet our client on... Continue reading

I am so happy that I got my first preference on the project! My client is a small bridal company. I recently got engaged and went through the process of finding the perfect dress. I have also considered starting my own bridal boutique in the future. I majored in both entrepreneurship and marketing in undergraduate. I will be working on this project with Madeline Mason. I am so glad to have a partner to bounce ideas off of and collaborate with. It is also a major advantage to our team that Madeline majored in Fashion. Madeline and I met last... Continue reading
