Handicapping Macron's survival is an interesting task. Despite the fact that he acknowledged that some people in rural France have to drive an hour or so to get to work, he's making gasoline very expensive. When the peasants can't drive, they'll have to go to horse or oxen pulled tumbrels. And when tumbrels go in to Paris, they usually carry the rulers away.
Theresa May, Or She May Not
Brit PM Theresa May bails out on a Parliamentary vote on her Brexit deal. What next? Who knows! DEAD POOL UPDATE: it seems like only a week ago we were contemplating the G-20 meeting in Paris, but really it was a week and a half. I can't handicap all twenty of these world leaders, but among Merk...
I think about Loopy Occasional Cortex, and recall the Rightous Brother's song "Little Latin Lupe Lu". Ain't no dance she couldn't do. She can wah Watusi etc,
The young lady is good looking--but unlike Lupe Lu has all the wrong moves. She's too young and too brown to be either Nancy Pelosi or Maxine Waters. Maybe she can age into those roles in say, about 50 years.
Lessons In Ethics
Hands up if you're an office pool savant who collected on a bet that media darling Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez would be getting ethics lessons from Don Trump Jr.
I admired Bush the Elder. Like his son he was a decent man.
He made a decision--admittedly on a very tough call--that had long term negative repercussions. He (or at least his generals) stopped chasing the Republican Guard out of Kuwait, leaving Saddam Hussein in power. Would the world have turned out differently if troops in the First Gulf War had driven all the way into Baghdad? Certainly. It's hard to tell though whether it would have been better or worse. There were a lot of dead Iraqis butchered by Saddam and his thugs in the next decade who might be alive today.
Bush 41 Joins Barbara
George H.W. Bush has passed on. It may be odd but (as long-time readers will recall) my clearest memory of Bush 41 is his second Presidential debate with The Duke. I watched it with an ardent liberal, who basically chose to hide under a towel after fifteen minutes. If it had been a fight, the re...
Cohen first says "A". Cohen later says "B"--and "I lied when I said "A".
Well it's a mortal lock that Cohen lied at least one time---but which time?
And the odds are pretty good that he was lying both times and the objective truth is "C".
On To Moscow!
Michael Cohen claims to have chased a Trump Tower-type deal in Moscow until just before the Republican primary in 2016, despite previous testimony that he (and more to the point, Trump) dropped the effort before the Iowa primaries. Possible explanations: (a) Cohen is lying. Problematic, since th...
Kevlar Kid at 1:05 says that there was a poll in early 2017 where most California residents said that they wanted their elected officials to work with Trump.
Well most of California's elected officials don't give a rat's hind end what their constituents want.
We Are Not Alone!
FWIW, the battle between the ruling elites and the Great Unwashed is not just about Trump and US. The UK, France and Germany continue to have serious leadership problems opportunities. The French protestors have the best line, as quoted by President Macron: Ordinary people say the president’s sp...
First off re Obama's "That was me folks. . " I'll be dipped in Shinola before I thank that lying little weasel for anything other than his exit from the Oval Office in early 2017.
Secondly it appears that Governor Moonbeam, termed out in Sacramento, has seemingly morphed and reappeared in Paris in the skin of Macron. Will the world ever be able to be free from moonbattery?

Manafort either has refused to continue to tell the lies that Mueller wants to hear; or has refused ever to tell the lies Mueller desires.
This latter day Inspector Javier will persist-say what he wants--or else; or simply "or else" if you refuse to answer.
Trump would be a fool to sit down with Mueller; Mueller has that old FBI habit of taking notes--with his version of what was said--which may or may not reflect what the interviewee actually said. Then if later the interviewee does not recall things exactly as recorded by Mueller, then he's a liar! If Trump deals with Mueller at all, it should be through written answers to written questions. That will throw Mueller off the old FBI game.
Manafort Violated Plea Agreement?
Per a new filing from Team Mueller, Paul Manafort lied when he was supposed to be cooperating with the Federal investigation into anything that can be pinned on Trump. Maybe Manafort really can't tell truth from lies, or maybe Mueller has an expansive definition of "lying". Either way, this has ...
Hillary should consider becoming an astronaut. I'd be happy to send her to Mars in a defective space ship--a sorta one way ride.
Old King Coal
Really too long for a Sunday but the NY Times Magazine takes us to coal country - in India. Lots of hand-wringing about the use of cheap, reliable coal as a power source in developing Asian countries; since it is the Times, there is no discussion of nuclear power as the baseload alternative. I s...
When Harbaugh is fired (and he will be in some year) it will be because his Michigan teams can't beat Ohio State. Mr. Khaki Pants is zip for four against Urban Meyer's Buckeyes. I don't happen to like either of them, but the Michigan Football Mafia will not tolerate losing to Ohio State.
Not saying that Harbaugh will get the boot this year--after all he is 10 & 2 so far for the year, with a bowl game yet to come. But unless he can manage to beat Ohio State he will eventually be toast.
Open Season Saturday
Go, Maize and Blue!
I read this codswallop from Hillary Clinton and my ears start to tingle. Has this silly woman talked to a real average American in the last 40 years. I mean some auto mechanic in Ft. Collins Colorado or a cable repairman in Boise Idaho? If she had done so, she would be ashamed of herself for spouting this garbage. If you shined a light on Hillary's cranium, you'd see nothing but a vacuum and some chardonnay fumes.
Happy Thanksgiving All!
How about that turkey!?! HEALTH WARNING: Too much turkey can cause brain damage. Hillary advising Europe to retrain immigration to placate the populists? Just what is her message to Democrats in the United States? And Hillary's psychoanalysis of right-wingers sounds like a classic case of projec...
I figure somewhere along the line Trump will find a way to hand Acosta his hat and ship him out the door. And if Acosta is lucky, Trump won't have filled the hat full of molasses--or something else dark, sticky and stinky.
Acosta Back, For Now
The judge has granted CNN's Jim Acosta a temporary restraining order restoring his hard pass to White House press conferences. Hard passes for the hard asses! Apparently the judge was concerned that the unwritten rules of appropriate press conference behavior were, well, unwritten. Team Trump wi...
