Hi guys, Wow, I can't believe I'm actually saying this, but this is our final post for capstone. I'm shocked at how the time has just flown by so quickly. What a ride it has been, phew! For my last post, I just wanted to reflect on my personal experience working with my client over the past 3 months. I must say I have learnt quite a lot on this journey and having worked in similar spaces in the past, the experience brought back so many memories. Some not so pleasant like the anxiety and stress that comes with such... Continue reading

Hello Everyone, It's been quite an interesting week since my last update! After following up with my client, quite a number of times, I finally got a response on Friday. I eventually received the data set with the financials from last years fall fundraising event to upload onto the system. It's been quite a laborious task to manually record each of the entries and I honestly wish I had received the spreadsheet two weeks prior when I was supposed so start working on it. With so much time that has been lost, I am not sure if we can do... Continue reading

Hey Guys, Happy new month. My project with CMH will be winding down in the next couple of weeks so the remainder of my posts will be focused on work that I have been doing to prepare for my report and final presentation with the client. But to recap on last week, I had a very productive week and overall I'm pleased with what we were able to accomplish. Even though the client has not been able to send the data set I was supposed to work on while she was away on spring break, I decided to move forward... Continue reading

Welcome back everyone! So, to start where we left off, last week I meet with my client on Tuesday to kick off our activities to scale up training and usability of dayschool. I must say, the hour long webinar both Susan and I sat through was not as useful as I had hoped it would be. Fortunately, we were able to contact dayschool and get some information on what other training materials were available. The only problem was that I did not have login and user access into the system which we also sent a mail to our designated contact... Continue reading

Hello Everybody An update on last week's blog post; so I was finally feeling a lot better and able to meet with Susan on Tuesday. Our meeting went very well and the client seemed happy with my findings and recommendations for an administrative software that will take CMH enrollment and development activities to the next level. She had a couple of suggestions on how I could improve on my reporting and revise the document which will be taken into consideration moving forward with the project. I'm glad this initial phase of the project has been done. Its a relief to... Continue reading

Hi Everyone, The only way to describe this past week is; life happens! The school has entered enrollment season for the next school year so finding a time to connect with the client was a little bit of a challenge. We eventually settled on what was supposed to be an 11 o'clock meeting today however, I unfortunately had to postpone this at the last minute because of a minor medical emergency I had this morning. This after struggling with the flu all through last week. Honestly, I just find myself a little drained after all of it but, I'm sure... Continue reading

Hello everyone, I am pleased to announce that my first action plan ( CMH's admin database) is ready, one week ahead of schedule. Last week was not the easiest week for me, but I managed to pull through and get everything I needed to get done. I was afraid that I would have to push some deadlines forward on the project timeline as things got a little hectic with other classes but fortunately it did not come to that. Meeting with Dianne last week has also helped me not stress out about that too because with she assured me that... Continue reading

Hey Guys, This week has been research, research, research. I must admit though, time has been pretty tight as this upcoming week is the last week for most of my classes this semester. I have a ton of project presentations and finals coming up so I have been working on capstone whenever I got a chance. I cannot wait for the end of this upcoming week so I can work almost exclusively on capstone and make that my priority for the remainder of my time here at UC. On Friday I had my first project review with Professor Hardin which... Continue reading

Hi guys, Hard to believe we are officially at our first project review, this capstone project is moving along pretty quickly! The past week was extremely productive as I had a chance to schedule a visit at CMH and spend some time with Emily Seger and Margaret Pfarr, both primary users of the admin database. This was extremely helpful as I got to understand the process a little better as well as ask tons of questions from the two individual who interact with the system on a daily basis. I walked away from the visit with new perspective of the... Continue reading

Hi Everyone, This week will mark a month since capstone started, I cannot believe how quick the time has gone! Which brings me to this weeks post, the elusiveness of time. My project with CMH Montessori has had me feeling as though time is moving quickly by with only a few of what we have set out to do complete. This has had me stressed out at certain periods but I have to keep reminding myself that time priorities are different for every person involved and I am not working on this project on my own. For example, snow days... Continue reading

Hi Guys, This past week was mainly focused on getting the documentation and admin piece of the engagement done before project work begins. This included working on specific time tables, project requirements as well as finalizing the project charter. A huge take away from this week’s activities is the importance of asking not only the right questions but also enough of the right questions during the initial meetings and correspondence with your client. Essentially, this is what guides and informs all the work that will be done in the project charter. I also realized that going through the information again... Continue reading

Hi everyone! For my capstone project this semester I have been assigned to a project with the Children’s Meeting House Montessori School. I will be working with my client Susan Maggard who is the Business Operations Manager at the school. Children’s Meeting House’s mission is to foster the development of the whole child by implementing the philosophy, practices and curriculum of Dr. Maria Montessori. It strives to nurture each child’s lifelong love of learning and honor the diversity of individuals. Being that it Is independently owned, the school is mostly funded by tuition revenue, parent contributions and fundraising efforts. The... Continue reading
