Last week has been exhausting as this is the final week to complete my project. I have already started on my report which I’m trying to finish as soon as possible. I’m still working on the data as I have found some discrepancies on it which I need to address and try to make them right. I just have to make a move on as time just flew by and the report is due in a week’s time. Last week’s pitch presentation really helped me narrow down my focus and the conclusion of my work. It really helped me understand... Continue reading

It has been an incredible week. I'm sad that we weren't able to meet in class for the pitch presentations but work wise, it was highly productive. I was finally able to get some meaningful data which I'm able to use for my analysis. It's not so easy scouring through every record. I was still able to find some discrepancies and bad data. But I was able to get clarifications instantly and no delay. Delays in response is what drives me crazy. I feel stuck and not being able to move forward with anything. After my Project Review with Diane,... Continue reading

I had celebrated last week that most of the issue with data was over and now, it's plaguing me again. As I'm on to the second phase of my project, I found some discrepancies with the data provided against another report. This was baffling to me. I finally thought everything was going well and now I am in the drains again. I now have to set up a meeting with a person in the Data Analytics team and try to resolve the issue. I'm just mas because data issue solving has taken a lot of time in the past and... Continue reading

I had the third round of client meetings last week. Since both Managers wanted different things, I wanted to know for certain what I have to do since time is of the essence and only less than a month to go to turn in all my work. I'm quite certain as to what I have to show one of the managers. Whenever I meet with her, my doubts are cleared and I know exactly what I am supposed to do in the next week. However , the second manager is too hard to work with and after every meeting with... Continue reading

This week has been very critical. I had my third round of meetings with two of my client managers. The frustrating thing is that I feel every time I meet them, their requirements change and I end up doing my work all over again. this has happened at least 4 times. I'm trying to finish up my work as early as possible so that I don't panic at the end. Two managers want two different things. So what I'm thinking is that to make two different documents to satisfy each of them. In this way I will be able to... Continue reading

One of my managers who is directly involved with my Capstone is very much confused about what I’m doing with my project. He keeps telling me that the Excel document and analysis that I did is not what he thinks is a good model to be presented to the management. And I asked him to articulate or word it better what he wants and he said he will send me an example. But it is the same document that he sent me a month ago using which I created my current document. He keeps making me go in circles and... Continue reading

So, officially my request for getting the tableau license has been denied and there’s no way that they will allow to export the data to another computer or online server. Thus, I missed an excellent chance to display my visualization skills to make the data more interactive and fun. I have now ended up doing the traditional way of analyzing data, i.e., Excel. It’s very annoying as it is not as easily navigable as Tableau and not even charts that I can show. All Excel has are bar charts and scatter plots. And nobody uses Pie charts anymore. Last week... Last week was Project Review and I was really nervous about it because there wasn’t much work that I had done to show it to the Professor. I’m still waiting on some data from the client and they assured me that I will get it by this week. But unfortunately, they declined the use of the software Tableau in my work laptop. Tableau license requires special permission from the IT department and my manager. It turns out the license costs about 1600$ which they are not ready to pay for a Capstone project as they have no use of Tableau... Continue reading

It's been more than a month since I started working on the capstone and I certainly had some challenges along the way. At least I see some clear solutions now. I still have to get my data fixed. But I believe that won't take a long time. Another major hurdle is finding out whether they allow Tableau to be installed in their work laptop. So far, I have not been given the clearance. And I'm expecting good news with this because my whole project rests on using Tableau to visualize the data by creating multiple dashboards. So far working on... Continue reading

This past week was very challenging for me. I received the Axcess file which has all the data for all three products and I went through every row and column to create a story in my head as to what they all mean. However, the data was vast and exhausting to understand as several spreadsheets had different columns, making it harder to connect and make it relevant to visually present it. Moreover, most of the important data that was required to build the customer profile was missing which made it harder. The customer profile was going to be an integral... Continue reading

My client is American modern insurance Group. As I never really had a base knowledge about the insurance industry, it was a major difficulty understanding certain terms and procedures. Since the company was undergoing a business transformation, they were under strict deadlines and therefore getting the data as well as arranging meetings with the right people was a challenge. Since the company was dealing with Specialty Insurance, understanding their products was the next big step. I attended a company training where they gave a basic understanding of their products and different coverages for their policies. That was very useful and... Continue reading

Finally, I was able to fix the technical issues and post my blog. My client is my employer itself, American Modern Insurance group and I work with the Product Development team. I feel lucky to do my Capstone Project to understand the recent trends in their business and execute a Marketing Strategy for them. And also, I got a good head start as my Manager was ready with a project for me. However, there is an important lesson that I've learned in the initial days itself. During client meetings, it's not only important to listen to their ideas and suggestions... Continue reading

During client meetings, it s not only important to listen to their ideas and suggestions but it is very important to ask the right questions. The clients can sometimes seem to forget that you may not know certain terms and abbreviations, which can be easily be confusing to anyone. They... Continue reading
