I hadn't known there were wild rumours, at the time at Martha's Vineyard, about what "really" happened with EMK. It reminds me of a phenomena I've noticed (or imagined) lately, and it's a great phenomena to cite if you're a ledge dweller or, worse, an outright misanthrope. So, it can be defined thusly - the "what really happened" scenarios for any noteworthy incident become more dire over time, with the participants in the incident becoming more despicable in the process. I'll use Marilyn Monroe's death as an example. Starts as actress slightly past her peak, meds problem, OD's after Bobby tells her that neither he or his brother will be spending time with her going forward. Scandalous, tragic, etc. After thirty years the story, as I recall, took on new players, like Peter Lawford, Lawford's doctor and the chances he might have dosed Marilyn, Marilyn's threats to talk to Jackie, etc. But now, thirty years later still, the story (at least, how I've recently heard it) makes you want to just hang your head and think dark thoughts. There was a time when Frank Sinatra was happy to hire private eyes to tail Marilyn for his friend Joe DiMaggio; DiMaggio was pining for his ex-wife and jealous of any new lovers. Famously, Sinatra's hoods broke down the door of a hotel where Marilyn would presumably be caught in flagrante delicto (they were wrong, surprising a middle-aged woman alone in bed while Marilyn slipped away two doors down). Now, though, two days before Monroe died, Sinatra was telling the still-possessive Joe something else - forget it, Joe, leave it alone. Marilyn was going to be drugged by Sam Giancana, he was going to pass her around to his mob buddies for a couple of days, then they were going to kill her. Old Blue Eyes was OK with it because the mob and JFK both said so, and Joltin' Joe could send flowers to her grave forever but could never wipe the cowardly stain from his soul. Crazy world. I mean, it's like finding out the FBI is crooked, or something.

Please be specific as to what you are referring to, as there are at least three discussions yesterday it applies to. I fell asleep and couldn't participate, so can all three be resuscitated? What were they - Teddy breaking the designated driver rules, Michael Flynn's mysterious plea, and....what else?

There is absolutely no sting operation. That's definitely an opinion. It also happens to be mine, but another opinion (TomR's) is that there is a sting operation. TomR might get overbearing with his expectations of others, or whatever, but I enjoy reading his opinions - they're interesting.

Flynn got intimidated, pled guilty, saw what a bunch of weenies the Feds are and how they have nothing on him, so changed his mind. Or else 4D.

Bringing over several Flynn related posts. SOB if you don't care about the Flynn case. Suck On Bananas?

It's also my impression that conviction does not automatically lead to removal from office. As you say, though, a completely moot point, as no conviction can possibly happen. Romney, and any other Republican who'd dare think of being as mushy-minded as Romney, should definitely be primaried at the first opportunity.
If the Logan Act is out of the question, I suggest John Kerry be prosecuted for violating Santa's brother, Emoluments Clause. And my suggestion can be included as evidence in any pertinent FISA applications.
"So now I am a troll?" No, lol, of course not OL; as is often the case, I picked up the thread mid-stream and wasn't even quite sure who was suffering the sky-high incidences of being told to STFU. So happens, though, that I've been assigned to that basket of deplorables at least a couple of times.
Has any long time poster been told to basically STFU more than he has? Just every troll and RINO who has ever burnt the topless towers of Ilium. Only those guys. Y'know what's so great, now, about DJT? It's he who turns out to be the transformational prez, you might as well say the waters did stop rising and all that under his watch. Iran had no real military power, and Trump knew it and acted; now it may very well lead to peace busting out all over. Prophets of gloom are having such bad days lately, you have to feel for them.
Iggy, maybe they're proactively butthurt by the speedy impeachment dismissal their chamber will soon effect.

This morning Diamond or Silk said that Steyer made his money building prisons, fwiw.

Melinda, who knows, but I think Nancy's goose is pretty well cooked this time. Henry, Steyer is also apparently in double digits in Nevada polls. I don't think Steyer has any platform at all besides impeachment (and that's already happened, so...).

Imagine just how very, very dim Speaker Pelosi must be, if that John Dean story is true. There's no "what was she thinking", it's more of "she wasn't thinking".

Henry, didn't Trudeau add at the end, "Shame on you, Donald Trump, shame on you!" because, y'know, if he wasn't mean to Iran than Iran wouldn't have tried to be mean to us but mess it up and accidentally be mean to someone else?

Theo, impeachment will die a peaceful death the first Tuesday in November.

Jack, I'm sure that's a lovely Beemer. I last had one when stationed in Germany a long time ago (a bright yellow 320), and I still miss it.

It never occurred to Tribe that it's not our fault if the minions of the terrorists we kill have itchy trigger fingers.

CH, apropos of nothing except something I saw on the last thread, I was in the audience for this show: https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x5dgtbz My sorry 16-year-old self had no business being there, but there I was nonetheless. I still remember it pretty well!

We still have our 2004 325i Cabrolet BMW. ONLY 30K miles on it. Jack, in case you don't know, two thousand miles per year is considered very low mileage for a car. Very low indeed.

Krugman thinks he's on a mission to smear all Republicans as stupid and evil; it's a little difficult to feel bad for such a goon, regardless of the circumstances.

And this World War didn't have any great names for its battles. "Battle of the Missile Falling Harmlessly into the Desert" just has no pizzazz at all. Good luck screenwriters!
