The Last Metacognition...
Only the end of an era Listen here: https://anchor.fm/owenomalley/episodes/OMalley-Final-Metacognition-eepdak/a-a2bd91u I’ve grown so much as a writer this year. I remember walking into my first day of class, nervous and unsure of what to expect. It was my ninth grade year, and I had no idea what that meant. Little did... Continue reading

Power of Reflection
Exploring the mind “Self Reflection is a humbling process. It’s essential to find out why you think, say, and do certain things – then better yourself.” -Sonya Teclai All you are is your mind and your body. The body is easy enough to understand, but the mind is something that... Continue reading

Alone in the Woods
A walk with the trees “There is a wilderness we walk alone, However well-companioned” ― Stephen Vincent Benét At the start of this year we were given an assignment. It was a short writing blurb that we had to write before school started; the catch was that we had to... Continue reading

Fitz, this was a really cool piece to read. It’s like going back in time to see you when you were new at teaching English. I got to see what changed and what stayed the same. I can see the groundwork that was lain all that time ago. I also really liked the ending. Nice job!
The Original "Give a Damn"
A Teacher's Plea Only those who go where few have gone can see what few have seen. ― Buddha Gautama I wrote this piece many years ago, and it is my first writing piece that I wrote "for" my students at the time. For ten years I was the shop teacher, but the school needed an English teacher f...
A Breath of Fresh Air
The journey of being tired “Running is alone time that lets my brain unspool the tangles that build up over days” -Rob Haneisen The monotonous pounding of my feet against the pavement can still be heard over the soft music playing in my ear. As my running shoes battle the... Continue reading

Sam, I really liked how you wrote about your dad. This was definitely a memoir that stayed focused. You kept a constant theme throughout your writing and it really made the piece seem whole. Nice job!

The Brains Of The Family A Memoir About My Father Right now the world is going through a very troubling, unpredictable, and confusing time. Our lives have been completely changed in the blink of an eye. Students are now going to school from home, many workers lost their jobs, other wo...
Elliot, I like how you focus on how the small things matter. You did a great job at reflecting on only about 15 minutes of your day, and how that’s important to you. Nice work!

Talking about Unimportant Things in Quarantine ”Sometimes the random is better than the spontaneous.” -Unknown While I have been in quarantine, the only people I have talked to in person have been my family. Which was alright at first, but has grown tiresome after three weeks, and I long ...

Guidance and more “My father didn’t tell me how to live. He lived and let me watch him do it.” ―Clarence Budington Kelland My dad and I stand behind a crowd of what must be 10,000 people. They’re all waiting to get into the same event, and we had just... Continue reading

Fitz, I really liked how you did this piece. Your vivid memories really could be fully experienced in how you wrote it. While you focus on someone else, this still feels deeply personal. I wasn’t really sure how I was going to write my memoir, but this helps.
Patty: A Personal Memoir
My Way Cool Sister God takes one to teach many... We were coming home from church one morning and Jimmy Glennon pulled up beside us as we approached the Sudbury road lights. He didn't notice the well-dressed family of eight scrunched into our old Pontiac station wagon as he revved th...
Sam, this is a nice piece on what seems like a sorrowful end of Fenn. I feel the same way. Parts of it were funny and parts were sad, and I think you did a great job at balancing the two, nice work.
Daily Journal From Home #2
Daily Journal #2 Here I am back writing journal entry number 2, I have only had two days worth of online school, it is going pretty well so far. At least it is something that will keep me occupied. I think being able to go to school in person is a lot more fun though. I get to see my f...
Elliot, I really liked this post. It was funny look on how this all will play out. I really liked the ending, it made me laugh a bit, nice job!
Journal #3
A Boring Tale to Tell The Quarantine is probably getting to all of us, some way or another. But for me I really just want to go to school, (which I would NOT have said before all of this) I didn’t think that my last day at Fenn would be in March, and the fact that this is how my Fenn career will...
Jack, this is a really great reflection on a simple topic. You did a great job at narrowing in on something that we don’t think about often and expanding it to look at your present and future. This is a refreshing look at a straightforward topic. Nice job!
Journal Entry 2
Running Running. It’s painful, tedious, and exhausting. So, why do so many Americans do it? People run for many reasons. Most often, people run to stay in shape and to reach an ideal body weight, but for me it has become an escape from the craziness in the world. The power in ...
Connor, this is a nice blurb of what’s going on in your head. It feels as if I’m actually reading your thoughts. You did a good job at making this very realistic of how you think. Nice work!
Blog post 1
Blog post #1 Yesterday I kept to my normal after school routine of breakfast, protein shake, homework and reading, exercise, videogames, movie, and than sleep. I keep playing this one videogame sea of thieves, that has probably the most toxic community i’ve ever been part of. Everyone ...
Finley, I really liked this journal entry. I feel the same way too. Everything just seems so lacking. I think you did a great job reflecting on how you feel in a clear and direct way. Nice job!

Online classes “Change is the only constant in life.” -Anonymous I am not a fan of online classes. That’s the easiest way to put it. The routine is the same as any other school day, slowly wake up, take a shower, brush my teeth, eat some breakfast, but this is where it feels different, ...

Odyssey Final Metacognition
The Odyssey was unlike any other book I’ve read. The other class started the book before us and told me how strange the writing style was. I was nervous going into it, nervous that I wouldn’t understand anything. The first line I read I was confused, but eventually the confusion... Continue reading
