Well, I’m now in my Sophomore year here at Norwich, and all I can say is “wow”, I have grown so much just by being here thanks to the Lord. So that’s what this post is about, what a Sophomore year at Norwich is like, and some details regarding it. First, when you’re a Sophomore here at Norwich, you’re no longer a recruit; you’re a cadet (this is if you have the Corps of Cadets lifestyle choice selected at Norwich). And as a Cadet and as an upperclassman, you’re granted privileges that you wouldn’t have had previously and therefore are able to have a better time overall in your second year here at Norwich (to be discussed more later). The first year at Norwich when you have chosen the Corps of Cadets lifestyle is supposed to be the “refining” year. What I mean by this is during your first year... Continue reading

Well, I’m moving back to Norwich and I’m starting my Sophomore year, can’t wait. So this week’s post is going to be about some room “hacks” I’ve learned with my one year of experience under my belt that hopefully, you will find useful. So first, keep your room clean and as clutter-free as possible. The reason this is so important is that our environment determines our mindset. If we have a clean, bright, and organized room, we will be mentally organized and cheered up as well. But if we have a dark, cluttered, and not so much organized room, we will find ourselves having more of a depressed attitude and a cluttered mindset. A practical example is if you have a clean room, you’ll know where everything is and therefore you can access whatever you need when you need it. This way you can spend less time searching for what... Continue reading

Funk Fundamentals, it’s such a great set of “rules” and guidelines that I decided to write another post about them. This post is going to be about Funk Fundamental #15 which states, “A good idea only becomes great when it is shared”. So let's dive into this rule. In simple terms what this rule means is, to speak up and share your ideas, you won’t know if your ideas will be accepted or rejected until you throw them out there. Now, I know there are those individuals out there who prefer to let others run the show, who prefer to let others speak up while they just sit back and contribute as they feel comfortable in doing so. But, in life, we need leaders; there are plenty of followers, but leaders are harder to find, and one necessary aspect of a leader is having the ability to speak your mind... Continue reading

Well, it’s that time again, school is starting up, and I’m sure there is a good handful of mixed emotions out there. Some people are excited to go back to school and better themselves through education. Others are quite the opposite, these being the ones that are sad that they have to go back to school and that it felt like the entire summer went by so quickly. Speaking for myself, I am about in the middle between these two groups. On one hand, I’m excited to go back to school because I’m taking some really interesting classes this semester that I can’t wait to learn more about. But at the same time, I’m not excited to go back to school because this Summer was quite fun with all the different activities, time with family, etc. So, to help everyone get ready for the upcoming school year, this post is... Well, we’re coming up on the last days of summer and summer went by all too quickly once again. So this week’s post is about how to make the most out of the last couple of days of summer that we have. First, think of something that you wanted to do this summer that you didn’t get to do yet, and then do that thing. Think of it as a summer “bucket list”, if there’s something that you haven’t done yet, try to do it; this way you can make your summer that much more of a memorable experience. Second, spend your last couple of days of summer balancing out your priorities. This is due to the fact that these last couple of days of summer will be some of the calmest days you’ll have until the next academic break, meaning you don’t want to rush into the new academic... I have a great question to ask, who do you want to be tomorrow? Do you want to be better than who you are today and who you were yesterday? Hopefully, you said yes because we should all be striving to improve ourselves a little bit each day. So that’s what this week’s post is about, working today to be a better person tomorrow. First, in order to be a better person, we’re going to need a plan. We can’t just say “I’m going to be better” and hope for the best, we must first identify our weaknesses and strengths. Then focus our energy on turning those weaknesses into strengths and our strengths even stronger. To do this, I advise you to keep a journal of the ups and downs of your day, and then the following day, identify what you’re struggling with and make sure to try to improve/focus... Continue reading

In life, we’re told that we need to know what we’re going to do in the future, and I completely agree. But in order to do that, we need to know ourselves and who we are today before we can figure out who we want to be tomorrow. So this week’s post is about the importance of knowing yourself. First, one day we all will have to decide what we want to do in life. Whether we decide to be a police officer, teacher, scientist, etc, we’re all going to have to choose a path to walk down. In order to make the best decision possible, you need to know yourself. A great way to know yourself better is to write down your interests, dis-interests, strengths, weaknesses, etc. If you do this, you’ll be able to organize your thoughts and passions and then apply realistic measures to achieve those dreams... Good Old Summer stuff, that’s what’s this week’s post is about, it’s meant to build off of what I discussed in a previous post which is all the glorious opportunities Summer presents us with. And what I mean by “good old Summer stuff” is merely the things that make Summer the great season it is. Now, this post may be a little biased since Summer is my favorite holiday, but let’s get into it. My first point to bring up regarding Summer is what activities/hobbies I like to do during the Summer. My first is, running outdoors, when the weather is as nice as it is, it’s the perfect opportunity to exercise and get the heart going. Second, video games, I save this hobby for later at night, but with all of the free time I have, I can use some of that time to catch up on some video... Continue reading

Well, a couple of days ago it was the Fourth of July, making America now officially 246 years old, and like always, it was a great holiday to celebrate! A little background on the Fourth of July, just so we’re all on the same page, is today is the day when the United States officially declared its independence from Great Britain. This is such a great holiday to celebrate because this is the day America was born basically. So, this week’s post will be about the Fourth of July, and some of the ways that I like to celebrate this special day. First, fireworks, they’re a great way to end the Fourth of July, with the loud noises and bright colors, they never disappoint. Second, outside games, which may consist of “bean bag toss”, tag, etc, are just some type of outdoor game to get everyone involved and at the... Continue reading

In life, some things are more important than others. However, we often don’t organize our priorities correctly. So for this week’s post, I’m going to be discussing priorities, and how one can make sure that they are correctly organizing them within their own lives. First, the importance of having priorities and properly organizing which items need to be done first is so one can make sure they are living their life as effectively as possible. If one’s priorities are all messed up, most likely their life will be as well. Take, for example, you have three items on the agenda: get to the next level in a video game, get that essay done for your biology class that is due tomorrow, and study for your final exams. So what is the correct way to rank these items? First, ask the question, which items are the most important? What items will... Continue reading

This week’s blog post is about trying new things, which will build off of last week’s post regarding hobbies. So, here’s my argument, we should all try new things. Why? Because who knows what we’ll like if we try and who knows what we’ll miss out on if we don’t try in the first place? Trying new things is important because there is so much in this world to explore, so many different foods to try, so many different places to visit, and so many fears to conquer (like a scary roller coaster at Six Flags). There are those in life who don’t like trying new things, and I don’t blame them, some people just prefer to stay in their bubble, but I believe we should live outside of it. And since it’s Summer, we’re free from academics and other responsibilities, meaning we have the blessing to try new things.... Continue reading

Hobbies, they’re important to have, so let’s talk about them. Hobbies are activities that we consider fun, often they’re used to get a nice break from reality. What are some of my hobbies? Well, writing (obviously), airsoft, and puzzles. What I look for in hobbies is something that breaks the everyday cycle. And that is the importance of having hobbies, so we can break free from our everyday predictable lifestyle, this way we won’t get burnt out. Another good thing to look for in hobbies is something that stimulates your brain, like doing puzzles. Hobbies are also meant to reduce the stress load that we may be bearing at the current time. Now, what hobbies are best? That’s entirely up to you, we all have different hobbies, but so long as it helps recharge your battery and you find it fun, you’re already off to a great start. Now, as... Continue reading

Focusing, it’s not easy, for often in life, it’s easier to get distracted by something that’s more fun than what we have to do, such as homework. A common example is something that every college student struggles with which is staying focused on keeping those grades up by studying, getting work done, etc, especially towards the end of each semester. So, in this week’s blog post, I am going to be discussing the importance of staying focused, and how one can stay focused in their own life. First, the importance of staying focused is that when one is focused, an individual is able to be more productive, have more free time, and be less stressed out. I want to emphasize the fact that staying focused can help reduce stress. In life, we are always going to have a lot to do, and having all that stuff to do can often... Continue reading

Often in life, change happens, for better or for worse, it’s just one of those things in life that can’t be stopped. Some people say change is bad, others say it’s good, and I say it’s all about perspective. So in this week’s blog post, I am going to be advocating for why we should openly embrace change within our lives with a positive and motivated attitude. First, we should embrace change because if we do not evolve with the times, we are destined to die in the past. This means that we shouldn’t hold on to something that isn’t going to be able to make it to tomorrow. Now, this may sound like I’m saying we should completely abandon the past, but that is not what I’m saying. What I’m truly saying is that we should use our lessons from the past to do the best we can in... Continue reading

I’m assuming everyone has heard of progression versus regression, well, in this week’s blog post we’re going to be breaking these down. First, progression means to advance, make progress, and improve. What this could look like in one’s life is one getting better at their physical fitness after a couple of months worth of physical training. A key way to see progression in one’s life is to monitor it. Let's go back to the physical fitness example, if you want to see progression in your life you have to record it, and once you record it, you can monitor your strengths and weaknesses so you know where you need to focus on. Another advantage of recording progression is that it keeps you motivated. I see this all the time in my personal life, I get motivated when I find out that I am able to do ten more pushups than... In life, there are so many experiences and opportunities. Yet often, we let them pass us by. So that is why for this week’s blog post I am going to be discussing experiences and opportunities, and how we can make the most out of them in our own lives. So to begin, we have opportunities every day, whether it be the opportunity to make someone smile, to learn something, or to improve ourselves, there is always an opportunity, we just have to see it. What I’ve learned from opportunities is that we won’t realize them when they present themselves. For example, I saw a flyer while walking through campus that I’ve in the past ignored, but for some reason, it caught my attention. So I examined the flyer and realized that I had an opportunity to take a First Aid and CPR certification course, which I advise everyone to take... Continue reading

Wasting time, it’s one of the numerous killers of productivity, and many people fall victim to it. For often in life, there is a lot of work to be done, and it can be easier to let that clock run past us rather than beating time in a race. Some everyday examples of wasting time would be, watching too many Youtube videos, scrolling through social media, etc. Now, I’m not saying that social media and Youtube videos are a waste of time, but they can be if they are allowed to get out of hand. So in today’s post, I am going to be discussing ways in which one can reduce the amount of wasted time in their lives. My first point is this, make sure to be getting the right amount of sleep, as in don’t sleep too much or too little. Now, I get it, with lots of... Continue reading

Well, this school year went by quickly, it’s already summer break. It felt just like yesterday that I was moving into my new dorm room, and now, it's time to head back home. So let's dive into the Summer break. But first, here are a couple of words of advice to make the most out of your break. To start, don’t waste your summer, but don’t use it too much. What I mean by this is don’t spend your entire break playing video games and sitting on the couch, make sure to have it be both productive and fun. At the same time, don’t use your Summer too much, don’t use your entire Summer working 24/7 to make a couple of bucks; enjoy the break to some degree. To do this, one has to find the goldilocks area of spending their Summer, where one is both productive by doing some... Continue reading

Often in life, we are rushing, from one point to another, chasing after something. This can lead to us tripping along the way, thus making life more difficult overall. So that is why in this week’s post I will be discussing the why and how of living life step-by-step. First, to clarify what I mean when I say to live life “step-by-step” I mean we should take life one step at a time, not skipping over items on the agenda and not rushing to meet our objectives. A real-life example is I have multiple assignments to do, I can either rush to get them all done, or I can complete each one with a thorough and dedicated process. One is quicker, but the work quality is less, and one is slower and perhaps more grueling, but the work quality is higher. Another important reason why we should live our lives... Continue reading

Have you ever heard the phrase, “skin in the game”? Well, I have, and I wanted to share a little about it. Commonly, the phrase “skin in the game” means to be personally invested in the outcome of a venture. This can be applied to a poker game for example, where players have their chips in the middle and they are invested in the outcome of the game, in this case, financially. Well, I say that we should live our lives the same way, with skin in the game. What I mean by this is we should be invested in our lives, we should not live our lives where we are the mere spectators, but the players on the field. But why, why should we have skin in the game? Well, because with skin in the game, an individual is bound to work harder, often the greatest rewards come with... Continue reading

Now, I don’t know who’s reading this is religious or not, but coming up is Easter, and I wanted to talk about it for this week’s blog post. To begin, Easter is a holiday celebrated mostly by Christians to commemorate the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead after He sacrificed Himself on the cross and defeated death so we may live our lives free from sin. Many people across the world also know it as the day the Easter Bunny comes, when we get to color eggs, and get baskets of delicious treats. So why is Easter so important? Well, Easter, as stated before, is to celebrate the resurrection of Christ, which symbolizes that all who find Him, are resurrected as He was. It’s one of the many true stories found in the Bible and throughout history that give clear proof that those who choose the way of the... Continue reading

Life can be crazy, to say the least. With a mix of school, careers, hobbies, etc, often in life, we find ourselves wearing one too many hats. And this can lead to us forgetting about some of the most important things in life. Such as laughter and friends. Now, why am I talking about laughter and friends? Well, simply because, laughter and friends, along with God, are what makes this life so much easier to live. The fact is if we spend our lives working constantly, without giving ourselves any form of rest, we are going to burn ourselves out. So that is why it is important to have quality friends and have a couple of laughs throughout the day. Now to break this down, friends are a great thing to have, even if you’re an introvert. Because with friends, one can have someone to do activities with, which can... Continue reading

The importance of an effective schedule cannot be overstated. Therefore in this week’s blog post, I am going to be discussing the importance of an effective schedule and how one can implement such a schedule within their own life. First, an effective schedule is important because it can help one organize their plans. This could look like having a chronological list of items that need to be completed in an order that makes the most sense this you. This also could be ordered based on what’s due the soonest, what requires the most focus, etc. Organization is key to success, otherwise, you’re work and thoughts will be just a jumbled mess. This leads me to my next point, which is, an effective schedule can help increase your work productivity. For if your thoughts are organized, your work will be organized. And when your work is organized, you’ll spend less time... Continue reading

Today we’ll be talking about physical training (PT) and the endless rewards that come with it. Yet often, people dislike having to work out because of the effort and work it requires, which is why they give up on this common New Years’ resolution, but I tell you this, the work is worth it. First, PT will help you become more physically fit which overall will help you live a healthier life. For if you workout just a little day, you will see that you’re able to do things you weren’t before, such as run longer, lift heavier objects, etc. But PT isn’t only good for your body, it’s good for your mind as well. So my second point is this, when you exercise, you’re making your body physically stronger, but you’ll also find that you get a much more positive attitude when you have completed a workout. When running,... Continue reading

I’m assuming everyone has heard the common saying, work hard, play hard. Well, I’m here to agree and elaborate on that statement. For in life, time flies by, and eventually, our life will come to an end. That’s just how it works. So knowing this, we should all be motivated to make the most out of our lives. As in we should work hard and play hard. First, to work hard means just that, work hard, get the work done in quantity and quality, stay motivated, and stay disciplined. This also means however don’t become complacent. As in, don’t become lazy when you get work done, get more work done, don’t slack off because you worked hard yesterday, keep the engine rolling, keep the gears grinding. Some examples of working hard are, skipping parties to study for a test, staying up late to get extra work done, and waking up... Continue reading
