Certain children are not meant for the big city, even if their parents are organizing and leading a fortune-five hundred company. Certain kids are not able to express their true feelings because they feel trapped by their parents who may pressure them to commit themselves to things they don’t appreciate.... Continue reading

Many teenagers and young adults are extremely, deathly, neurotically, physically, mentally naïve. I know that there are a lot of adjectives describing this naïve-ness and stubbornness, but they all, and I mean all, apply to stupid dumb teenagers. We are so stubborn now that we cannot even comprehend the real world. How are we supposed to adapt to the real world and all of its cash and prizes that come with it? Are we going to be the generation that…..ends the world?? Such a thought is grotesque and painful, but it must be considered for the sake of our people and our future generations! There is only vun cause to our problems and that is the evil, corrupt JEW! Zey are ze ones wiz ze good financial skills and are exploiting our lack of skills! They must be stopped! Fourth REICH! We must put into effect Auschwitz! Oh my, I must have gotten carried away…there are better ways to handle this. One way would be to have finance classes in schools starting in middle school. Economics is overlooked in history classes, but in a world where the economy is always a major aspect of our lives, and the effect it has on us, we must be able to understand all area of economics and finance. Many kids have no idea how currency works or why it is valued, which should be taught in middle school. At the high school level, students should learn about personal finances and the stock exchange to understand their own money and how to invest it or save it. (Mrs. McGuire, please do not take that seriously, you know I kiddin' and aint no big deal). Continue reading

As a nation that tries to universally spread democracy and fight poverty in this world, the United States of America should most definitely step in to help Haiti rebound from the terrible earthquake they faced. They are innocent human beings that are poor because of their government, not because they... Continue reading

Academic integrity is a common phrase used and advocated amongst almost any college that you will come across. By having strict rules and regulations on academics, they believe that it creates the truest sense of an education. Although these schools have tremendous academics, they also offer a great amount of... Continue reading

People are inspired by many different ideas and other people. From ancient philosophers, artists, and inventors, to modern day teenagers and businessmen; all have been inspired by some sort of role model. In the society we live in today, we are faced with many different role models, whether in a... Continue reading

Mr. Corey Salva, I agree with many points made in your argument. At such young ages in high school, many teens make the mistake of being naïve and stubborn by posting such scandalous and even misinterpreted photos on Facebook. These photos from years ago can come back to “bite you in the A,” but teenagers are not aware of this, and if they are, they neglect the fact later years in life are more important than a a couple of photos of them having a good time. And I also agree with the fact that colleges and businesses know these actions and parties occur in high school, but they would rather not aknowledge, nevertheless see photos of them. I do have to say though, that partying and doing mischevious activites is not the only negative of Facebook, as you focused on. I belive there is much more than self interest matters, such as cyberbullying and hate groups. Hate groups are terrible to our future generations, especially ones that focus on small groups of kids. People are also heavily judged on Facebook, which is something that should not be taken into effect to “judge” someone. People will look at what people post and what they say on Facebook to inaccurately judge them and exclude them, which is a complete injustice to that person. Relationships can also be greatly affected on Facebook because it brings into play many outside effects to a relationship. For example, a boyfriend sees that his girlfriend has befriended someone he is not fond of and gets angry with her. This should not be a big deal, but Facebook can complicate a relationship in this way, and many others. For the most part, you are right in that photos and videos can come back to haunt one form years past, but I believe you failed ot acknowledge the effect it has on hate groups and even relationships. Good job.
You have just graduated from the college of your choice, the school that just sent you up for a great internship. The corporation just offered you a job, and just before you take it, they reveal that they withdraw their hiring of you because of dissatisfying photos from your past.... Continue reading

Amanda, I completely agree with all facets of your argument. The perfect image sustained by Barbie gives young girls a false goal in life, one that will never be obtained. In my blog, I touched on the self esteem issues that can come from such expectations. Also, I truly agree with the accessories aspect. Barbie gives young girls another false aspect of life, one being that life is driven by fashion and cars, and the "Dream House" you mentioned. Racially, I could not agree with you more. Barbie does portray white, blonde American girls as the perfection of society. And although there are more racially diverse dolls now, Barbie still takes the spotlight at all times and is on an unreachable pedestal for all other Barbies. Being a boy that never really played with Barbies or any toy of that nature, I can only imagine the pressure growing up for girls, as they have to maintain a sense of perfection and stability at all times because their false role models do. This is completely unfair and creates a double standard for the two sexes, such as men having more social freedom than women. For example, the movie “Jackass.” Those men are highly accepted in today’s modern society, but if a group of females were to perform half of those stunts and acts, they would be highly scrutinized and banned from out society as we know it. This is so because of a perfect model portrayed by girls’ dolls, the most influential being Barbie. Barbie is able to portrays an abnormally sized and proportioned female, as you so described. Her measurements are unrealistic, yet today’s females shoot for this image, and when not obtained, their self esteem becomes an issue for the rest of their lives. With this in mind, I think you did a wonderful job of why Barbie is not at all the role model she portrays herself to be.
Our society today has many role models and icons, one of the biggest being the toy doll, Barbie. Barbie is now celebrating 50 years of existence, and a very successful 50 years at that. Barbie is a toy for girls to play with, and in an interview from NPR, creator... Continue reading

Wow Zachary, I think this is absolutely fabulous that you are staying motivated throughout your final year of your high school campaign. How bout that meat pie hustle? What is the goal for this year, maybe a G or two? Also, what are your atheltic goals? 17 receiving touchdowns? That'd be nice. I also like the fact that you desire to stay in touch with your class cause we're "da shizz" and yuor da shizz, too, pal. I really hope this is 150 words, a touching, warm 150 words.

I cannot wait until the tennis season either merely because I am an avid Bishop Connolly Tennis fan who attends nearly every home game. I hope to see some nice backhands and forehands and even in between the legs. I can already feel myself breathing tennis.
Entering my senior year, I wish to make honor roll for 2 of the 4 terms. What I also want to accomplish getting accepted to college, especially my top two schools. Another goal I have to maintain a B average for the year in Mr. dos Santos’ European History Honors class and to receive a B+ at least once in it as well. I also wish to get a B in Calculus because I love math. I also want to make a lot of memories with my great class of 2011. This is the last year of my childhood with all of the people I have grown up with, so I wish to make it the best year of my life as I take the steps into adulthood and college. I’m also looking forward to attending many of the sporting events this year, such as basketball, lacrosse, and football. It’s the last year we have together so I hope it is great for everyone.
