Not to long ago, I got the itch to get back flying so I joined the Las Vegas Soaring Club. I contacted one of their instructors and this past Saturday I went out to get my plane set up. All went well until just after takeoff. It seems that my... Continue reading

A short update while Mandy’s quilting… The renovation is winding down; the backsplash was started today. That leaves some minor work with electrical sockets and switches (we’re swapping out everything for white rocker switches with white sockets). There’s also the pot shelf in the master bedroom that hasn’t been started... Continue reading

The next several weeks have some pretty significant events associated with them. Mandy had her first surgery on 1/17; then on the 23rd we got the bad news that the first surgery did not get all the cancer. Then 3 weeks later, on Valentines Day, Mandy had her second surgery... Continue reading

Mandy and I have lots of friends and family that just don’t get much when it comes to fall foliage so I thought I’d brighten your day and share some of what we get here in the Las Vegas valley. This first shot is of the two large trees in... Continue reading

When Gary and I moved to Las Vegas, NV at the beginning of this month, I was excited about finally living only a 5 hour drive away from family, and being able to visit my father and three sisters in Arizona more frequently. I wasn’t expecting to make three round... Continue reading

Thought I’d take a moment to fill you in on what we’ve been up to since leaving ‘The Ranch’. The drive to AF was uneventful but long. We stopped over in Dumas – requirement number one was for a trailer friendly parking lot. We’d had a large lunch (restaurant with... Continue reading

Things here in Angel Fire are quieting down. Not only have most summer visitors left over the Labor Day weekend we’re wrapping up a host of small items that need addressing before the rental ski season arrives. We left ‘The Ranch’ on 8/29 after three very restful nights as guests... Continue reading

Well, it arrived with little fanfare. It seems that as the day approached, time crawled; when it came, looking back was a blur. Movers started about 8:30am loading the POD. That took an hour. At 11:30am, the truck was full and they were pulling out of the ‘Ranch’ headed for... Continue reading

We met several milestones during the past couple of weeks. Mandy and a helper have made great strides in getting ready for our upcoming move. The golf car garage is almost full of packed boxes – fret not; there’s still room for the golf car. Btw, the golf car along... Continue reading

Stuff Everywhere Today, we passed the light at the end of the tunnel. Mandy had her last ‘regular’ appointment with her Oncologist. Yup, cancer free! The Dr. was happy, I was very happy, and the patient was/is ecstatic. The next treatment is called anastrozole. It’s a type of hormone that... Continue reading

First of all, I’d like to wish America a very happy birthday and a happy 4th of July to everyone. Mandy had her last chemo treatment on Tuesday and her immune system booster yesterday. That’s it. Now we wait until the residuals from those six sessions start to dissipate and... Continue reading

With 4 chemo treatments behind us and 2 to go, we’ve learned that each treatment results in increased residual effects. This last one was a doozy. Mandy finally bounced out of it this past Sunday night and into Monday. She still tires easily but is rapidly regaining her sassiness. This... Continue reading

Well, we’re 2 weeks past the half way point with Mandy’s chemo treatments and she’s doing great. Number 5 will be next Monday, the 20th. Her reactions to the treatments have progressively gotten better. Each treatment has had less impact on her than the previous. I’m hopeful it will stay... Continue reading

Things here are progressing very nicely. On Tuesday, we’ll be entering week three of the second chemo treatment. This is a good thing as we’re now prepared for what happens and when after each treatment. Treatment week starts on Tuesday (the next one is on 4/30) with the chemo cocktail.... Continue reading

On the road again; driving to Dallas again today. Second round of Chemo starts this morning at 9AM so we hope to be home by early afternoon. Wore out Mandy’s trusted old credit card with all the extra swipes for co pays; the new one arrived yesterday just in time... Continue reading

That describes Tuesday to a tee. Mandy’s headache and other aches and pains never materialized so we took advantage of the sunshine and got out for our dose of vitamin D. We started at the market. I had a hankering for smoked chicken for dinner so we picked up the... Continue reading

Will get to that in a bit….. Well, it’s day 4 following her first chemo infusion and Mandy is feeling crappy! It’s not like we didn’t expect it but we think we’re headed into 3 days of aches and pains. Bones, joints, muscles, everything hurts. Tylenol seems to help but... Continue reading

Pollyanna had an 'optimistic attitude' and a 'philosophy of life' which centered on what she called "The Glad Game". This game consists of finding something to be glad about in every situation. Here goes my take on it today: Yesterday's 'first day of chemo' was another 'longer than planned for... Continue reading

There have been dozens of doctor visits where we both went into the examining room to see the doctor, but a week ago it was my (Mandy’s) turn to sit in the side chair and Gary got to occupy the paper covered table of honor. The Dr noticed that Gary’s... Continue reading

The appointments yesterday went great – good news all around. Mandy’s surgeon is really pleased with the healing. We also met with the Medical Oncologist and she was really pleased with the pathology report and Mandy’s baseline lab report. So, barring any scheduling conflicts, chemo starts on either 3/12 pr... We had a couple of phone calls yesterday after a couple of text messages and a Facebook posting reminding us that we ‘dropped the ball’ in keeping everyone that’s interested in Mandy’s progress posted on what’s going on. I am sorry and promise I’ll be more diligent with timely updates.... Continue reading

Mandy had her post operative consultation this morning. The pathology reports were negative. No additional cancer cells were found. There are several next steps; another visit with the surgeon to check on how things are healing and a port will be inserted to facilitate the chemo therapy process. Then there’s... Continue reading

Lot water has gone under the bridge since last writing here. There’s been a Super Bowl (I won the online pool and $200), several house showings, dinner’s with the kids and their families, dinners with our ‘Ranch’ friends, and some more time at Baylor Uptown in Dallas. About 8 hours….... Continue reading
