Thanks for the youtube link, Matt. It took me a couple of days to gather up the courage to watch this interview, and was so disappointed when the original video had been removed. His grace, love, devotion, and rational thought are just amazing.

That Godforesaken Helmand Province has taken far too many American lives. Rest in peace.

I agree with most of what you said, except for this: For people that are comfortable in their bodies and don't feel like somebody can take what they own, their own body, away from them, they don't feel insecure enough about it. I really don't think that objections to body scans or pat-downs has to do with body image. Just a couple of days ago I was reading about a former Playboy model and Baywatch girl who was scanned. She said she felt "overexposed", and that comparing it to the nude pictures or the bathing suit scenes on tv is ridiculous. Appearing virtually nude in person is not the same as a picture, or even a bathing suit. This is a very well-built woman, who obviously does not have body image issues. Her description of being "overexposed" is very accurate.

LW, you may be onto something I hadn't thought about before. I find the body scans and pat-downs disgusting, vile, and akin to public rape. Not everyone agrees with me, including my husband. Until you mentioned flashbacks for those who have been abused, I hadn't really thought about my anger and discomfort from that aspect. I was attacked in high school by a friend of my brother. My brother heard the attack and stopped it before it went too far (far enough for me to be scared $hitless and my brother to beat the kid). I wonder if my heart-racing, stomach-turning reaction is related. I don't know, but it's possible. And considering how mild my attack was compared to all-out rape... yeah, that's gonna cause problems. Opting out of body scans in favor of a pat-down is not a choice. The TSA acts like it's better somehow... but it's even worse.

Beautifully written, McQ. I'm proud that we've turned the corner and that "wonderful and miraculous thing" happened.

What great news about Lt.Col. Edwards! So often I wonder how these guys are doing over time, and it's not easy to find out. Thanks for the update. I had no idea Seamus had bone cancer. Keep kickin' its butt, man! Prayers for all going up.

Well... it isn't very easy to find, if that's any consolation, lol.

I've been to that museum, and it is wonderful. I was there just after Murphy was awarded the MoH for Op. Red Wings. I highly recommend a visit if you're ever in the Ft. Pierce area.

Thanks for being there, LT Lucas! I friend of mine used to run the air ambulance service here in town. It's an awesome responsibility, and saves many lives that may have been lost in ground transport. I've seen them in action several times, and it's always impressive. From what I've heard, they were, as you put it "mucking around", and have been properly grounded for the time being.

Happy thoughts and positive prayers for the whole family- including the one still in Mama Pertile's belly! It is funny how sometimes even bad news isn't as bad as it could have been, based upon our own experiences.

Thanks for the info, Billo. I know embalming doesn't stop decomp, but I didn't think the body would be like that 4 years later. One of many reasons I'm not in mortuary science.

"The other thing we need to remember is that these caskets are not prepared by Arlington -- all war casualties (at least since the beginning of OEF and OIF have been prepared by the Military Port Mortuary at Dover, Delaware. Perhaps they should hold some responsibility for the condition of the body inside the casket. These sealed caskets are purported to be waterproof among other things. What happened?" EXACTLY.!!!. WTF happened to that vault and casket that caused them to deteriorate like that? And the body too?? I thought the preparation of the body itself would have made it a little less subject to rot. The whole thing just makes me sick, and makes me even MORE sick every day. This story just keeps getting worse, instead of better.

Me too, Steve. That part of "War" haunts me- and all I did was READ it. Can't even imagine living through it.

I didn't realize Darius Rucker was on backup... love his voice. I made it through the top vid, no problem... but the bottom one tore me up, especially the shot of the flag-draped body. Many thanks to all involved in this song, the videos, and for donating proceeds!
