Holy moly, woman. You rocked it! Wow... all the planning that went into this is making my head spin.
I LOVE the fireplace setup with the cutouts!!
Fetch with Ruff Ruffman Party!
Well, here's a photo overload for ya! Because I know there are other quirky awesome kids out there who love the Fetch show, too, and let me tell you, there are VERY FEW Fetch Birthday party ideas floating around the interwebs. Weird but true. ;) The redhead chose a Fetch theme months ago. He'...
Three unstarted and undecided, I'm afraid.
Jealous of your gorgeous mountain nooks!
Leaves
We set off one morning to the nearest little canyon I could find. I had to see some autumn leaves. Yes, we have them in our neighborhood, but I had this urge to go on a hike. And being homeschoolers, we could drop everything and do that. First we hiked up this dirt road for a while - which ...
I honestly can't even tell you how much I hate (and consequently avoid for way too long) sewing on patches. I eventually started using fabric glue. Which, incidentally, only works if you strip off all the iron-on glue on the back of the patch. Which is just as bad as sewing them on.
Which reminds me... Zach's Boy Scout uniform is still bare. Ugh.
Stupid arrowpoints (grumble grumble)
I hate sewing on stupid cub scout patches. The redhead earned his Bear patch and will be moving on to Webelos soon. I figured as long as I was sewing on new patches I'd sew them onto the next size bigger shirt. So I picked everything off and sewed it all back on the new shirt. Ugh. I gave ...
Soooo grateful you guys are okay. And so sad you had (and still have) to go through this.
I have a few everyday pictures of that yard on my computer, that I'll be sure to give you once we dig out of our own craziness.
Love you all.
So, we had a fire...
I kinda still can't believe it, though trust me, it's very very real. We had a fire. It was so so crazy scary. Traumatizing really. You don't get over what we saw that day right away. It burned a lot of our property, including extensive damage to our windows and siding. It burned our backyard...
Z's a believer all the way. A little clueless, truthfully. And he asks me lots of detailed questions about old St. Nick (not questioning questions, just "I need to know every stinkin' detail about everything" questions... you know the kind), which I answer as vaguely as I can or just ask him what he thinks. Because I kind of think he should maybe be at the questioning stage, so that it doesn't get shocked into him one of these days. And yeah, I'm pretty sure one of his friends is going to laugh in his face either this year or next. Ah well. Growing up.
Little Etsy Finds + Santa
A couple of fun things I've picked up on etsy lately: Before the Lego party, I bought the girl and I some Lego jewelry from The Fingerpost Shop. The pink earrings and the pendant are the girl's, the clear studs are mine. Did the boys notice that our jewelry matched the theme? No, of course not...
I love them.
I have news... I'll email you.
If you give a boy a camera...
... while he's lying on his back under a neighbor's tree he will want to take a picture of a cloud. And then a couple of his brother. Then the brother will want a turn... And then they'll wrestle. Because that's what brothers do.
They really turned out great, K. I love the way they curl up.
I may have gone a little overboard...
More flowers. Wow, these are fun. I was going to go to the fabric store and buy small cuts of synthetic fabrics in a variety of colors, but my mom said she had a whole box of scraps from sewing us dresses growing up. A whole box! Oh, the possibilities! Of course my mom remembered what eac...
So sad for your kiddos. Zach likes dogs too, big or small, jumping or no... as long as there's no barking. Barking Dogs = Freak Out City. Although he handles it better than he used to.
So he's totally a cat person.
P.S. We're making our plans! I'll email you, but is the first week of September good for you?
Dog Days
Our neighbors got a puppy. A teeny tiny puppy. I was torn between: "Oh, great, now our kids will really want a dog" and "Thanks, now we don't have to get one, they'll play with yours." And play they did. Especially Thomas. He is such a dog kiddo. We go on walks around the neighborhoo...
Zach spent half the day doing this on Saturday. I love your boys' suits! I haven't seen any that include the top.
Summer is :: Splashing
Oooh, I love the color of your crib!
And wow... you are blessed with four of the sweetest little ones...
baby face
Little Miss Birdy, poor baby number four, is definitely not seeing as much camera time as her sisters did. So this morning, while the house was somewhat quiet, I tried to snap a few while she played on my bed. Of course of the fifty some pictures I snapped, all but about two were a blur of fla...
Holy. Moly.
I'm jealous on so many levels right now.
The Awesome 80's Bash
I feel the need to mention that this 80's party was not about any kind of pop star, High School Musical, Hannah Montana, Jonas Brothers, or any other 'tween' interests. Nothing like that. At. All. Thank goodness. Seriously, my girl loves 80's music. Started years ago with Material Girl and W...
Dangit, I'm all teary now...
Happy day, T.
Happy Birthday to my Daughter
You turn ten today! Wow. I can't believe it. And yet, are you really only turning ten? Not eleven? Twelve? I love that you still love dolls, fairies, make-believe and dressing up and haven't fallen for all the 'tween' marketing (oh, I hate that 'tween' word). I love that you are a total bookwor...
Jessica rocks. I'm in.

We love homeschooling too. I definitely learn as much as my son does, and I'm much more interested in learning everything than I ever was in my school days.
We're about to start an "explorer's logbook" that will house info, notes, drawings, photos, questions, observations, etc. about the world around us. I'm so excited!
Why I'm Excited to Home School
I must admit, I LOVE learning! I'll learn about anything; dinosaurs, black holes, crochet patterns, mating habits of moths, grammar, the science behind rising bread dough- anything! So, I'm extra excited to home school Sam and help feed that insatiable curiosity that I know he has as well. ...

That nursery is always at the top of my mind when decorating, for my son's room, and really for the rest of the house as well. I love it so much it hurts.
a bun in the oven
Yes, there is still a bun in my oven. My disappearance is due to "nesting" vs. a new little babe in our home. And equally exciting, okay not equally, but still exciting, is that there is now a working oven back in the mommycoddle kitchen! It has been so long that when I sat down this morning...
Oh my goodness. I love it. I want him to make a whole children's album now!
I have the Sandra Boynton version of the song too... we love all of her albums... but this is much more my style. way to go, Dan.
Pajama Time
When my brother got home from his mission and was just kicking around at my parents' house for a few weeks, he spent some of those empty hours turning one of Sam's favorite books into a song. He played the initial acoustic version for Sam, and as you can see by the blur in the foreground, Sa...
Your advent calendar is super-cute. I love that the "treats" are all activity-based... that's what we do too. We actually hide a little elf doll for my son to find, and he has a note with the day's activity on it... http://find-the-elf.blogspot.com/
I'm going to write down a couple of your ideas for future use. (Wish we could make it to Temple Square for the lights! Ah, well... there are some nice ones here too.)
Homemade Advent Activity Calendar
I've been wanting a nice, fabric advent calendar that we could use year after year, but I had trouble thinking of something that wasn't too elaborate and involved. I'm all about streamlined, easy projects. Instant gratification or I'm out! When looking through my stacks of fabric, the ide...
That is really cool. What a great resource.

Wow... that theater looks amazing! Jealous of you all and your very fancy girl watching your fancy dancing in your fancy theater.
I'm going to be getting The Nutcracker from the library and hoping I can convince one of my boys to sit down and watch it with me. The chances are not good.
Tulle and then more tulle
Sorry It's been a little slow over here - we've been busy! I'm trying hard to keep up daily posts over at Pip and Ollie, though! I spent my Friday making 22 tulle hair poofs for my daughter's dance class. And my Friday night with my daughter, mom, and sisters downtown for opening night ...
Oh, yes, oh ,yes. How I love me some Little House. They're on my list of books I must reread at least every couple of years. I've just been reading the Little House Christmas Treasury, too, which just shares all the Christmas chapters in one volume. And wow, it just eases any tension right away and makes me feel so happy and so motivated to create beautiful, simple traditions for my family.
Book Review: Little House on the Prairie Series
I must be the last one to realize how great this series is. Somehow I managed to graduate from childhood without ever having read them. I recently saw the whole set for only a couple bucks at a second hand store and snatched it up, thinking it was one of those family library essentials. ...
Santa brings one gift and also fills the stocking.
We usually have 3-5 gifts from us as well, but this year we are just doing two... one from me, and one from my husband. We're trying to simplify and also make it more personal.
Question: how many gifts do you give your children?
I'm always concerned that the pile under the tree might not be enough; a disappointment. This inevitably leads to a couple of last minute purchases no matter how prepared I might be. I need to get out of this cycle and do away with that guilty pressure. I'm thinking a "main gift", a game, ...
Molly! Wow.
That is the best tradition, and your tags are gorgeous!
I am definitely going to do this with our family scripture reading this month. Thank you!
time for advent tags
I made these a couple of years ago with some thin wood scraps, decorative paper and supplies, but never got any good photos at the time. This year instead of hanging I arranged them with greens on a big tray. The idea is that each day we'll flip one over to reveal a scripture reference pr...
Most of our stuff made it out of storage yesterday, so my house is currently decorated for the holidays in typical eight-year-old fashion. I'll have to do a bit of rearranging... the cluttered look is stressing me out a bit.
I have plans for creating a peaceful woodland scene of our own. How long do you think that will last?
The first of December
Welcome, December! We're all so glad you've come at last! We don't have much of our Christmas 'stuff' out yet - but the quilt and the books are out - that's almost enough for me - the most important things for the holiday. This is probably half of the books - they migrate throughout the house...
That was great. Adding the MuppetStudio channel to my favorites now...
Happy Thanksgiving!
Hope you all have a wonderful thanksgiving! We are going to be spending time with family - enjoy your feasts! If you haven't seen it yet, grab your kids and watch THIS! p.s. Turns out I have a sinus infection + bronchitis. Lovely stuff.
