The summer he turned 5.
I know the seasons are about the change when I log on and see the referrals from Pinterest. Old posts are making the rounds, and it makes me happy, even though this blog is mostly dormant and the plucky bookseller posts are a thing of the past. Life transforms but... Continue reading

Thank you, Robyn. xx

I slipped the letter into the mailbox when I went back to get his things. Pink construction paper folded in half, no envelope, “To Lolo” written in purple marker underneath a sideways heart. The dog watched me from the window of the school. It was Saturday morning, and I made sure it sta...
Hearing from someone who remembers those old days makes me so very happy. Thank you so much, Karen. xx

Oh thank you. Not sure where it's all leading, but it's good to write it down. xx

So good to see your name pop up here. :) Thank you! P.S. Enjoyed your story SO MUCH. And I can't believe the girls are teenagers now and....gah.
Something Like a Preface
It started with a conversation last spring. Jess Fechtor was in town for the night for a book-signing, and it seemed like the perfect chance to turn an internet friendship into a real-life friendship. She ubered to our house in outer Portland, after dark, in a downpour, and I offered her mic...

Thank you, love. And you guys are the video masters. ;)
Northern Sky
When my friend Posy approached me with the idea of adding video to her photography repertoire and asked if we would be her first subjects, I may have cried a little bit. After a year full of extreme highs and lows, it was the greatest gift anyone could have possibly given us. I asked her if I...
Thank you! Yes, so happy to have this record of him reading, and all of his silly "voices." Video is really something else, isn't it?

Haha, oh my gosh! I can't believe I forgot to set those old videos to private. But thank you! ;)

Oh, thank you. After many months without a computer, I am hoping I can finally return to this space with a little more regularity. And only a little while until strawberry picking season returns! Thank you so much for saying hello, xx
More ways than one.
Easter has come and gone. Mother’s Day too. Vintage shortsuits were worn with saddle shoes (!) and knee socks (!), and there was a lot of brunch. It seems like there is a lot of brunch in the spring. I spent my first two nights away from Aaron and Ewan in almost three years,...
It's been half a year since I signed onto this space, and discovering your comment brought tears to my eyes. Thank you, thank you. And yes, we are never alone in that. Here's to knitting and living out the questions. xx

Oh gosh, I was computer-less from July until this week, and I only just saw this! I'm so sorry. I can't say my answers would have helped much though. The pants were thrifted and the hoodie was just one I picked up at American apparel. I sewed on the stripes, etc. with felt. I hope your little Daniel Tiger was adorable. It was one of my favorite costumes for sure. :)
Happy (Almost) Halloween!
The countdown begins. Time to hastily carve some pumpkins. Or buy the fake, already carved ones from Target. (Holla!) If you happen to be looking for some very last minute Halloween gifts, the books I reviewed for NW Kids magazine last year are still great, as is this list over at Kirkus. Also, ...
I take that as the highest compliment from you, my dear. (And let's just pretend that I didn't forget to reset the exposure before I took these...)

Ha! That's a pretty pefect metaphor for life with an almost three year old if I ever heard one. xo

Thank you! I am definitely looking forward to a slightly less stressful berry picking experience in a few years. ;) And it's nice to know I'm not the only one who gravitates toward hymns at times like this. The gratitude journal is also an excellent idea. So appreciate your words.

Thank you, friend. And yes, dressing small people in snow/rain gear is a PITA. Hooray for spring! I guess with Ewan's past sleep issues and Aaron's hours, it's not surprising that it took me this long to arrange a getaway. After almost 3 years, I probably won't know what to do with myself. ;) I am very excited.
Knitting season.
Spring is here, approximately two months early. I am knitting. Not well, but there you have it. A hurdle overcome after only a decade or so of trying. Quarter-life crisis in full swing. I have ripped out and re-started the same project an inf...
