w for the win
This is what our backyard looked like Saturday night when J was waiting for Alex and me to get home from a birthday party and snow cones. He knows those lights make my heart smile. This is what the back of our chimney looked like after our friend Jeremy custom-made... Continue reading

Yes. There have been dozens of other tiny moments that have been monumental in the hope journey. God is faithful!
sprouts
I'm a big believer in planting spiritual seeds. You don't know which experiences or conversations or moments will stick with people and become meaningful to them. You don't know, and may never know, what will take root and grow and further someone's walk with Christ. So the idea is to keep at ...

mom's modified chicken and rice
I have nostalgic memories, although likely skewed by age and time, of this casserole that my mom used to make. I remember us eating it a lot, it being hard to eat because of the chicken bones in it*, and the bacon being a little weird (and in whole strips!).... Continue reading

the. cutest. [shaving] thing.
Can I just tell you? This was the cutest thing. Out of 26 photos, I narrowed it down to 12. I couldn't cut more than that. By way of background, E has been wanting to shave since...at least this long ago. J said he could shave once he turned 14.... Continue reading

how to: razor birthday cake
Last Christmas, it came to be that Ethen wanted to start shaving his face. His peach fuzz was noticeably darker (and noticeably dark), AND...wait for it...he had chin hairs. Three of them. Jason begrudgingly agreed to let him shave - once he turned fourteen years old, approximately seven months later.... Continue reading

better than a morning cup of coffee
It really has nothing to do with coffee. : ) J and I take lots of selfies to send to each other... ...but selfies together are rare. In fact, I'm gonna say I can count on one hand the number of times J has initiated the couple's-selfie. Yep, that's them,... Continue reading

gingerwit: the case of the sock
My red-headed friend who wishes to remain anonymous for fear of reader retaliation felt so strongly about the events below that she insisted on writing a blog post about it. It's out of my hands. I'm sorry. Sock. Noun 1. Archaic: a low shoe or slipper 2. A knitted or... Continue reading

the plain jane birthday cake
So we have this tradition of me making themed birthday cakes for the Wells boys. It started here. Then it continued with Ethen, J, back to Alex, Ethen, and now we're back to: me: Hey babe, what kind of birthday cake do you want this year? J: Vanilla. Cream cheese... Continue reading

Thanks! That was my project I was talking around. : )
the definition of love
About a month ago, Jason, Ethen, and I were lingering at the dinner table. It was one of those scenes where everyone is done eating, but no one wants to leave the table. We started talking about love from family. How do you know someone loves you? What do they do? How does it feel to love? ...

Hey, I'll take your recommendations, too...

So here are the noteworthy books that I've picked up and put down (and scrolled through) since my last reading post. I hit a patch in the middle of the year when I didn't really feel like reading (Netflix with Wells boys is more important), so it was kind of a light list to pick from. : ) Self...

You look beautiful!
Still Waiting!
39 weeks and 3 days. Feeling really good (just tired and suddenly none of my clothes fit, haha!). Lots of naps and enjoying the relative quiet. Baby will come when baby is ready to come. I'm enjoying every moment and knowing that fat babies = happy babies. I'm more than happy to keep cooking...

how to: chicken parm hoagies
This is one of our current why-did-you-let-me-eat-all-of-that meals. : ) It's really easy and fast, and it's a perfect accompaniment to watching Friday Night Lights. The bread: Slice a loaf of Italian bread in half, put it on a cookie sheet with the cut side open, and pop it in... Continue reading

Hi!! Still reading, anticipating, and just today I recommended it to a new friend!
As We Speak...

I bought this sheet of paper... ... without a clue what I would use it for but knowing I would see something soon that I loved. This was it. I lifted this page from Ashley Horton. The hearts with lots of white space is on my short list right now.... Continue reading

behind the photo: the ottoman
Here are the first five things that come to mind as I see this photo from this week.* 1. This scene is an iteration of a scene that happens a lot, and it warms my heart every time. I love watching Jason read with Alex. 2. Here's the setup -... Continue reading

the pancake breakfast revisited
The first time I tried to recreate my mom's pancake breakfast for the Wells boys was kind of a flop. We tried it again on Memorial Day. Here's the end of the story first: it rocked. Rocked. Here's the beginning and middle of the story: The first hurdle was the... Continue reading

the cargo mat conversation
Alex: Uhh, why did you just take a picture of that? me: Well...it's kind of a "mom" thing. [I pause, expecting him to lose interest and climb in the car. But he's still looking at me, so I'll keep going...] You know I bought this cargo mat [pointing] specifically for... Continue reading

one nonillion
A one with thirty zeros is one nonillion. I Googled it. So, Mother's Day this year marked about a year and a half that the Wells boys and I have lived together. I went to church by myself, which is always an emotional rollercoaster for me. So that's the baseline.... Continue reading
